  • This could have ruined a camping trip or POTA activation. I'm lucky the heat generated didn't destroy the fuse holders. This should not have occurred so soon. I work on vintage radios that are 75+ years old and this is the type of thing I'd expect to see- but not in a 3 year old transceiver.
If you use a Yaesu, you should probably reseat your fuses ever year. And if you clip the two fuse holders together, you should add a zip tie to stop the stresses on the crimped wire connections.
    Catch ya soon guys...
    Chuck

I've had the same problem with my 7600. The past 10 years Ive had clean my fuses about four times. I know its time because my power from the 7600 drops to about 70 watts max but it takes along time and takes me a while to notice. I use sand paper till I see new shiny metal. Works everytime (so far). Enjoy your vids alot.
    Thanks,
    Johnny

Holy cow, i had no idea this was happening to people. Gads. If one didn't know about it, it could ruin a radio outting. Thanks Johnny! 73

That's quite a cluster you got there OM. I recommend just finding an Astron 50 or 70 amp at the Goodwill store and send cluster to the ewaste pile. Yes it was the connector, I know. 😆

They should use better quality fuse holders. That's shit there connected to The Cluster. lol. The Tower of Power is headed to the garage where it won't ever be used for anything. To me, the only useful parts on the things are the connectors on the front. lol. I've got all the parts I need for a linear supply, and have all the metering done for it, and it's now only a couple hour job to build if I ever get around to it. In the mean time, I'll go back to using a deep cycle battery.. and I'll go to digikey etc and order real fuse holders. Assuming it's not all junk.
Thanks DN and catch ya later :)

I posted this in the last few vids but in case you haven't seen it- Here's a link to my Google Drive folder containing the spreadsheets I use. Give this a try if you wish: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1w0yfm_AAdKTNptVGT3_-OGCEvlumz9jf?usp=sharing Hopefully the link is persistent. After this I'll only include the link if I used the spreadsheets on cam.

Those fuseholders are dreadful things. I have had to clean up the ones on my 891 more than once

No kidding huh? Jeez. I bet they could get better quaity ones to use. But ya never know. I'll take a peek at digikey, mouser and newark to see what one might be able to buy and at what cost. Then divide by 1000 to arrive at the pricing the big three would pay. This is my first commercial rig in decades. I'm saddened to hear of your experience. For it's no doubt the experience of millions. lol. Thanks Stuart and take care!
Oh, btw- England and Scotland have been pouring in on 10 and the free band the past couple days. One M-something (I can't remember the #) was S9+20db on 27.425 last evening. He bent the pixels on my S meter 'needle' !

Superheterodyne Diplexer! I only have one question. why you holding out on us man? ok maybe one more question, who's Lana? lol

No. Seriously? You really want me to babble about superhet design? Oh GOD, I'd love to. lol
I built two meters for my upcoming linear power supply project. The voltmeter is dedicated to my grand daughter Lana, and the current meter is dedicated to my other grand daughter, Lana's sister Lola. They're cute little southern belles in S. Carolina.
OK then.. you got it. Like mom used to say: "careful there, mister- you might just get what you wished for. And then some". Hahaha. I shall keep you in mind with every dislike :)
      Have a fine day!

      Oh boy. Here we go.
All I can now think about is what I might like to say. Where to start. How basic. Do they even know what superheterodyne methodology means? Nobody will watch unless they understand the fundamentals and can read a schematic- especially with hand-holding and a good walk-through. But one must start with a block diagrain of his design.. and begin with some philosophy of design.
      See Curt?
      You have caused this!
And Jesus- only this morning did I come across but two clean sheets of engineering paper stock. The rest was useless junk mail. I was very let down. And now? I'll be needing more... much more...
And this you did NOT cause. I do love my recovered junk mail note stock. I really do. It's no schtick here at the dump. lol :)
There goes the rest of my week...
      or should I say-
Woo hoo! Blowzo has something to do!
Come on, Blitzy- daddy has a movie to make.....

@@n8nkqrp595 lol, I think you have nothing to worry about just throw some babbling in between for the nontechies and you should be golden. I found your channel with the multi-tap un-un. I bet you find a few more with some more technical stuff. don't worry some of us will follow no matter where you start but some will learn and maybe get interested. you make it all interesting, it will be good. besides, I'd love to see what you're working on. I haven't had time to work on my radio in a while. hopefully, this winter will be good for me. 73's

@@curtstacy779 You got it. I've been thinking of doing this for half a year now- and you gave me the encouragement to do so. I'll probably post an unedited first video tonight about it- explaining the upcoming series. I'm going to intersperse these with the Heathkit 'first look' vids and the Heathkit wafer switch maintenance and repair vid.
Have a nice Thursday Curt. Catch ya later :)
