Music absolutely & to download music videos to watch at your own leisure but it's the same with UA-cam, ability to download movies and TV shows at a time convenient especially with crappy wifi where I live.
Agreed. I had the same motive to be a Premium subscriber, but UA-cam Music is great. I canceled all my other music accounts or subscriptions, even "free" ones.
It was a better deal when it was Google Music. Google Music was a good platform, and they gutted everything that made it good with UA-cam Music. UA-cam Music is really only better if you watch music videos. Otherwise, UA-cam Music is the worst service for managing playlists, and the radio algorithm is bad.
I quit my premium because they suspended me from commenting for a day over a comment I made. I'm not paying for them to hassle me. I'm also spending less time on YT as well.

I have apple devices but I never use Apple Pay for anything, ever! I have paid enough for these devices I am not going to pay for anything through Apple Pay!
I've been on UA-cam premium since launch so I'm grandfathered in at $8.99 since I continued it from Google music. Been one of the services I will never end. I use the background play for listening to things in the car when I run errands or I can listen to audio on phone without killing my screen. I am always amazed whenever I see people dealing with ads on UA-cam, I totally forget often that others have ads on their services.
I get so much more content from UA-cam Premium. More than 15x what I get from Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ combined. I don't mind creators running their own ad rolls, because it helps them make a living delivering the content I like. I can also skip ads with a few screen taps if I want. The algorithm ads are terrible, and just getting those out of the way is worth my sub.
Yep I agree! I drive all day for work so 90% of the time I'm listening to youtube content. It's 100% worth it to get rid of algorithm ads and to be able to lock my phone while listening. Not to mention being able to download videos and not use all my data.

I just was suggested this video and had no idea I was overpaying. I’ve been a Premium subscriber since it was UA-cam Red (i think that’s what it was called). Better late than never, though. And I had NEVER heard of “Apple Tax.”
Yeah, the ads have been insane. Like even if I wanted to skip to another part, I immediately get hit by ads. I feel like I spend more time watching the ads than actually getting to actually consume the content. I know they're just doing this because they want to try to force people to subscribe rather than having UA-cam be a free platform. But when I checked out how expensive it is, my jaw dropped because it's considerably more than most streaming services for a single user. Thank you so putting out this video. I don't know yet if I'm going to pay the $15 or just stomach the constant ads or not
I've had the UA-cam Premium account since 2014 when I decided to leave Pandora behind. I uploaded about 5K songs onto UA-cam Music from my home computer and then found an infinite amount of music related to my library in the years since then. Being able to build specific endless playlists and stream podcasts has also been great. It's probably the best thing I spend money on. Probably over 10,000 hours of ad-free videos in the past decade has been worth every penny.
sucks that they're screwing us now, $10 a month grandfathered accounts are now going to $14. Thank google and youtube for being greedy. It gives me a reason to finally unsubscribe though since I don't have to keep a subsciption going monthly anymore.

I bought my You Tube premium through you tube. I made sure I got my free month. I compared paying monthly and yearly and I found I got a discount. So at the end of my free month I paid the yearly fee and I love it. I avoid Apple anything as much as possible.
I had been a Premium subscriber for more than 2 years through Apple. Last July (2023), I received an email from Apple notifying me of a price increase for the Premium service. The next day, UA-cam also sent me an email about the upcoming increase while letting me know how much I would save by subscribing directly to them. Which I did immediately.
Ok, so I have over 3,000 hours in 18 months, but I use it for background noise and to sleep to. Thank you so much for this hack. I finally got around to changing my sub when it went to $18.99 on the iPhone. It's $13.99 still for me via the web so that's a big win in my book. Thanks for the step by step on this. It was easy to do - only warning is to wait around 15-20 minutes between cancelling on the iPhone and signing up on the web as it takes a little time for the cancellation to flow through.
I have to share an addendum. Because I ended up purchasing UA-cam premium for the year based on these ideas. And what happened was I got charged, even ended up with a receipt, but it didn’t show which of my two accounts it went to. And yet neither one of them would run premium. Neither one of them showed premium. Instead, I had eight solid weeks of Hekate heck trying to get bank to talk to Credit card company to talk to UA-cam and vice versa. Because UA-cam is now deleted anyway for you to contact them. You end up in a loop just telling you to go back to the previous page to get help but if you click on the health page, it takes you to another page which tells you to go back to the health page. Aren’-t you annoyed? And you’ve only been reading this for 30 seconds as opposed to trying to do this on your own for eight weeks. In the end, I ended up getting a refund and absolutely no help from UA-cam. Am I going to try and buy premium again? Probably not. Hope this helps somebody out there and if you have had the same problem as me please comment because I would really like to help with other people that went through the same thing.
Another neat trick is to subscribe to family membership and share the cost with a family member or a friend who lives in the same country, instead of paying for separate memberships 🙂

In my experience they did not check that part but you can always make a new local account and call it family so they can use it even though they are outside of your residential address/zone.

Yes!!! When mine hit $18.99 after having it for 2 years I canceled and haven’t been back but miss the benefits. I only use it for videos and music and don’t need the TV at all! Thank goodness for this video!
I have 6,520 hrs of Ad Free Videos, 550 hrs background play, 710 hrs on youtube music, and watched 422 videos offline. Which I didn't even know I was downloading them. To be fair I forget and leave it running on the TV all the time so that probably contributes quite a bit. LOL
I've always hated ads but I also love being able to download and play on my own terms and especially at night when I don't want the Wi-Fi on. That makes it worth it to me although I do miss when they actually had premium content which seems to be non-existent now.
One important thing to remember about UA-cam premium directly supports the creators you like and watch by automatically giving every video you watch the full ad money they would get normally even if you don't watch the whole video. So it does support the creators more!
I'm huge fan of premium! I get a lot of value out of UA-cam Music with the amount of driving I've been doing for work, and the ad-free environment and background play are certainly big pluses!
Same!! I use UA-cam the most out of any app, so for people like us, UA-cam premium saves us hours of time a week of just ads and other BS. It’s amazing and definitely worth it.

@@ravinschannel hmmmm I don’t think so? I think at that point, there is something called a “family subscription plan” iirc? I could be totally wrong, as I’m not totally sure, that’s a good question. But I don’t think you can use multiple emails for one premium subscription. I believe it locks to one email, but I do believe there is a “family plan” of sorts… you can also try it for I think 3 months for free? That’s what it was for me when I tried it, that might be gone now but you can do at least a month free and test it out!
I would never even consider getting it at the current rates. The only thing I would use it for is to not see ads. No other benefit would be of any use to me. I don’t need to download anything. I don’t need to watch/listen the way you do with your podcasts and I don’t need the music. They are charging as much per month as the major streaming services, but they don’t have the same costs. All the creators are providing the content, and Google simply hosts it. For all the other streaming services, they provide the content and they still have to host it. So Google is just raking in money for letting things sit on their servers for the most part, that might be worth $3.99 a month but not the ridiculous amount they want. Actually, UA-cam premium should be a free benefit for UA-cam TV subscribers.

Honest question: Why would you pay for Spotify when you get access to UA-cam music for free with a premium membership? I use UA-cam Music and it's awesome. It gives you suggestions for playlists, remembers your likes, etc. All the usual music platform features PLUS it has all music on it. There's no "Amazon exclusive" or "iTunes exclusive" nonsense. When an artist releases anything, they always make a video that goes on UA-cam and that music is in UA-cam Music. So... I'm honestly curious what the appeal is for Spotify since I don't have it and am wondering why you would pay more for that or not cancel it once you got UA-cam Premium.
been using UA-cam Premium from back in the days when it was named UA-cam Red -- my sentiments are similar to yours - but I already had a subscription not using Apple's App Store so only paid about $10 per month. Recently upgraded to family so my wife could use it also as she is now watching a lot more UA-cam than she had in past years.
Actually even with UA-cam Premium you will be exposed to ads. Many UA-cam content creators are now embedding ad's in their videos. The ad's can be skipped of course, but it is still a pain. I feel these embedded ad's should not be allowed. If I pay for premium, I do not want to see ANY ads.
install the sponsorblock extension. It's a crowdsourced extension that allows people to mark where sponsored ads are in a video and then automatically skips them for you. If you see the ad first before it's reported, you can mark where the sponsored ad is for everyone else using the extension.

I’m following your advice, but there are a couple things. First, on iPad the interface is a little different, I actually really like to see the usage stats you’re talking about, but I wasn’t able to find them. The other thing worth noting is that it doesn’t seem like the cancellation takes affect right away. In other words, it shows up in the Apple store, but it doesn’t show up in the app. And then, on desktop, at least within the first five minutes, the change doesn’t show up there. Not sure how long it will take before it shows up so that I can make the change. Update: I had to wait until the email went out about 2 hours later that confirmed my membership was canceled, and then I was able to renew at the lower price. Thanks!
Yes. I didn’t know the apple tax was a thing. I do not have a computer, just an iPhone and iPad. I cancelled just now but my subscription is good for about 2 more weeks. Tomorrow or the next day I will see if I can resub again at the lower price. If not I can always go back to apple store & resub at the same price I was paying. I really won’t have lost anything so why not try.
@@macsiah just note it took far longer than 5 minutes for me. At least 30min, but I think 2 hours. Also, after I reupped, Apple sent me a reminder the day before expiry as if I hadn’t signed up with Google. I am ignoring them.
I'm tired of premium being the most expensive out of the United States of America and them charging you a week early so you lose a week of your month. I've been a paying customer since it was red before premium and it's not getting better imho they're getting more greedy and with the price hike to 11.99 last year it's almost not worth it anymore
Thanks Cameron, FYI. Google won't honor what you already paid Apple. I cancelled through Apple on my iPhone. When pulling up my account on my PC it said it expires in 15 days (Oct 10th) as expected. Good I thought, Google knows that so I can sign-up now and I won't lose the 15 days I already paid for. No such luck, after providing my credit card and submitting - my CC was immediately charged and Google said it will renew in 30 days (Oct 26).

I saved $5/mo for 2 full years on my UA-cam Premium subscription by qualifying as a student ($6.99/mo) before I finally had to start paying $11.99/mo because I was no longer eligible for the student discount. I’m surprised you didn’t mention this perk for students of accredited universities. Now, I’m at 9,290 watched hrs in 3 years of paid membership.

I listen to videos a lot while I'm doing housework, or when I'm donating plasma, I'm around 7600 in 26 months. But I also listen to some videos falling asleep and watch/listen to every single video at 2x speed. I feel like I'm wasting time watching at 1x speed. Once I figured that out (speed control) I haven't gone back, and UA-cam is what I watch 98% of the time. Like I'll have sports on the TV, and one earbud in, and listen or watch videos during the game. And my tv is linked with this account, so any videos my husband watches on TV counts as my hours.

I watch UA-cam more than any other streaming service. By alot. No ads is important and so is the closed viewing/audio experience as well as the download feature. But supporting the platform I love and making my view worth more to my favorite creators makes it a no brained. Don’t tell UA-cam but I would pay double if I had to.
Yes exactly, I get so much more bang for my buck with YT premium than any other subscription and it’s not even close. Let’s keep it on the down low but I would probably pay upwards of $50/month for it if I had to.
I’ve been a member since Feb 21,2022 and I have 1,440hrs of ad free videos, 520hrs of background play, 660hrs of UA-cam music, and 35 videos watched offline. I’ve unfortunately been hit with the Apple tax for close to 2 years now and hopefully can save a little bit going forward. Edit- I’m a student now also and see the option for an even bigger reduction of what I was paying. Kicking myself for not looking into this further.
UPDATE: I normally use Firefox for web browsing, so when I had the aforementioned trouble subscribing to UA-cam Premium directly, I decided to try it in Safari. I logged out of my UA-cam account and logged back in via Safari, and the Premium option for $11.99 (+ tax) came up, and I was able to subscribe again successfully with UA-cam Premium DIRECTLY. Thanks for the money saving tip!
I'm a grandfathered Google Music introductory price subscriber for $10.81 (which includes sales tax), which started with just Play Music, then they added UA-cam Red at no extra cost, then UA-cam Premium, and then Google Play Music -> UA-cam Music. It has gone up a little from the original $7.99 (with no sales tax), but not too bad.
Premium isnt the only subscription I have that I really like, no just for no ads, but for UA-cam music. Plus UA-cam has a great library of free movies. Totally worth the price in my opinion.
Important question: If you do this, can you still use the same official UA-cam app from the Apple App Store to access UA-cam on my iPhone? Because if I have to then use a browser window on my iPhone for UA-cam it's not worth it.

It’s not stinking greedy - they are providing a service, the App Store and a quick easy way to pay for and monitor subscriptions. They can’t do that for feee. Actually the whole world of apps is their invention. They can’t do that for free. That said I may look into re-subscribing to UA-cam premium through Google as this fellow recommends but I won’t be doing so spitting and cursing at so-called Apple greed.
I agree. Subscribing to premium is a must if you care about watching youtube regularly. Like with so many things they just have no sense of what is reasonable with ads. "More is better" is not always true and in many cases it is not. No, jamming as many ads as you can down people's throat is not better than if you didn't. Marketers are stupid anyway. Offending people is not the way to gain their positive approval of you.

I've been paying for UA-cam premium for at least 18 months. I've been trying to figure out just what I'm paying for! I've never watched UA-cam for the music! I have Spotify for that. I only went w/YT Premium b/c I thought I would be able to watch additional content. Yet it's never been there & I'm still seeing ads every few minutes on every video I watch! 🤬😡 I signed up b/c I was so disgusted w/my cable carrier. I'm disgusted right now considering that I'm being charged every month but yet I keep being sent in circles and don't have any way of recovering my money! I purchased it b/c I was not supposed to have ads but yet there are no people to help me get these charges off. So, if I'm going to have to watch all these ads, I don't think I should be paying $14.96 a month! Please I need someone's help because I'm disabled, homebound and not the most computer literate and feel like I've been taken very much advantage of by Google yet again! I really did not have the money to buy this but since I'm homebound thought it would be something I could justify spending money on. 😢

I think creators get a bigger cut from premium views as well. As for the complaints about creator sponsor ads, fair enough. But it is the main way they make money. I'm sure most creators would rather not have them. Adsense doesn't pay very well at all, and at least you can skip the creators ads at will with no timer delay, etc. And honestly some of the creator ads can be legitimately entertaining.
You’re missing the perks here. I’m a day 1 UA-cam premium subscriber through the App Store. I pay 6 USD for UA-cam premium & music (family). Since I subbed through Apple and never cancelled my subscription, prices NEVER rise. I’m fully protected from price hikes, so I’d say if you have the on-launch UA-cam premium price, do not change your payment method or else you WILL pay more.
Im actually forced to download videos because of the bit rate youtube has and keeps screwing around with. they push me to 480p and this is not acceptable but Like you said you download videos - What downloader do you use? for PC and phone??
I've been trying to get premium via the website, but I keep getting the error "You need to change the address". No idea what address, but I keep getting that error (when trying to pay via Paypal). I see some messages about Paypal not working with Premium subscription. No idea why. I contacted support and I keep getting the same freaking e-mail: " you need to verify your account". Done that 6 times already, but no dice. Google support sucks, like hell. I don't want Google to have my credit card data. I don't trust Google with that information. But what else can I do? I want to watch videos, not ads interupted by videos. Anyone else having this problem? And what did you do to get the low price premium subscription?
I’ve used the family plan of Premium for years and love it and can’t imagine watching any other way! When I saw my friends YT with ads it took me out of the experience. It’s for sure worth it! Also, with the Family Plan you can invite up to 5 people and share the cost if you want.
Have been a Premium member for twelve months and I really love it. I connect to UA-cam Music every night to fall asleep to so that's a great bonus for me. Also, being able to play UA-cam videos even when the phone is locked and in my pocket is fantastic. Not an iPhone user so the Apple Tax is not a problem I have to worry about.

YES YES No more paying $19.99 (AUD) its now only $14.99 Thanks for letting us know. That would have been a saving of around $180 (AUD) if I had known about this 3 years ago. I've had the family plan ($14.99/m for six people) for about two years. My adult kids note that if a friend plays a video for them, the ads are brutal. They haven't seen ads for a while!
I got a 3 month trial few months back and I noticed depending on where I would be signing up for premium it was about $1-2 difference. One place was on the phone app and I can't remember where the other was, maybe on a browser or the App Store under subscriptions. I found that pretty odd. What you're talking bout is so much more of a discount though. $11.99 is definitely a better price. Having said that, the only part of premium I care about is no ads. I hate ads. I just don't $11.99 a month hate them. Think the most I'd pay for that would be like $5 but even then I'd prolly not go for it. Ads are terrible. I had a 15 unskippable one couple months back. I had one shippable after 15 seconds but the AD ITSELF was literally over 3 hours!! Which is stupid. If I'm watching while doing dishes I don't want to have to stop and dry my hands off every few mins to skip a 3 hour long ridiculous ad. Last night had an hour long one show up.
I've been using UA-cam prime for about 2 years now, using VPN to set my location to Argentina (down there family plan is only $1.30 US dollars) but just this week they no longer take any of my cards. Anyone know a work around to it?
I feel like UA-cam premium is only really worth it if you watch UA-cam on your smart TV. And also the screen-off playing videos. That's it. If I was able to find a way to do those two things without paying for premium I wouldn't. I don't mind creators putting baked in ads, I can just skip them, and many creators also do it creatively (internet historian) so it makes it both hilarious and enjoyable to watch in addition to serving its purpose of being an ad. It also actually makes me more comfortable with whatever is being advertised so if more UA-camrs did that it would love that. UA-cam music is in my personal opinion garbage. I love my audio quality and Spotify is much better for that. (Tidal is better but I disagree with their business) if I want to really support a creator or artist I buy the album/donate directly. (Last note but personal preference for everyone is get rid of your Apple device. They are all baked together to trap you into a seemingly impossible to get out of "ecosystem" and makes you "think different"..... Also their business practices are probably the fucking worst along side their "customer service")

I've had youtube red/premium for around 10 years or something. I've had both the 1 user and multiple user premium accounts. It's definitely worth it and makes the experience much more pleasant. UA-cam music also makes it worth it. If you split the cost with other people, it's a no brainer. I have high usage with this platform and it's music service. Overall I think it's a high value service. Highly recommended

So in summary, I stand by what I said and will further modify it for increased accuracy so no one else whines about it. Keep in mind I specifically said "10 years or something", which means approximately or roughly. So yes it is close. If you actually wanted to help out and be useful, you would have done a 10sec google search for that information I just found and listed it right here for others to benefit from, but you didn't. @@dougspaeth6931 the old price of youtube red family was like 15 or more usd. Red single user was like 11 or something. This is old memory, though it's still within a reasonable margin. They raised the prices now, though it's definitely worth it if you find value in youtube or youtube music services. For me it was a no brainer. After splitting it with 6 people, it's 3 or more dollars a month
@@zeeMuniStacksBundles I think an especially important detail with the Family plan is that it's an actual plan meant to be shared; you get to invite all 5 of the other accounts so people just use what they use. I think this is the same as something like Spotify Family, but it is importantly different from how tv streaming services handle Premium accounts which is what people share--where there's just one account with multiple profiles. It's actually kinda insane how it runs on the same model as Spotify costing about the same when it has a ton of benefit aside from UA-cam Music, which I already prefer on its own compared to Spotify.
I purchased and paid for you tube for a single account. But you tube for the last year keep charging me for a family account and they ignore all my emails about this.
November 22 the price goes up to 29.99 for us. We canceled because of all the different companies that increased the price UA-cam went up by a full 7$. It was far cheaper to go to Hulu, Disney and Espn. I suggest you cancel UA-cam and get Hulu bundle instead.
YT Premium is my go to subscription. If I could only have one, this would be it. People pay £10 a month for Spotify alone, but with YT Premium you get the benefits of a standalone music streaming service along with add free UA-cam for just another £2 a month.

I'm up to >1.980 hours. Personally I am very glad for using Premium. I hate ads. I know that you can use adblock to get around some of them. But I want to support the people that spend hours to make content that I enjoy watching every day. I don't like cheating to get stuff I enjoy for free. And honestly, paying to use premium for a month, is not more expensive than what I spend a normal friday. I can afford it.

As someone who never uses apple... the apple tax really irritates me. I've been a yt family plan subscriber for a lonnng time. I used to use yt music, but I had to go on Spotify for a particular playlist and it's definitely superior in regards to music.

Agreed. I had the same motive to be a Premium subscriber, but UA-cam Music is great. I canceled all my other music accounts or subscriptions, even "free" ones.
It was a better deal when it was Google Music. Google Music was a good platform, and they gutted everything that made it good with UA-cam Music. UA-cam Music is really only better if you watch music videos. Otherwise, UA-cam Music is the worst service for managing playlists, and the radio algorithm is bad.

I've been on UA-cam premium since launch so I'm grandfathered in at $8.99 since I continued it from Google music. Been one of the services I will never end. I use the background play for listening to things in the car when I run errands or I can listen to audio on phone without killing my screen. I am always amazed whenever I see people dealing with ads on UA-cam, I totally forget often that others have ads on their services.

I get so much more content from UA-cam Premium. More than 15x what I get from Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ combined. I don't mind creators running their own ad rolls, because it helps them make a living delivering the content I like. I can also skip ads with a few screen taps if I want. The algorithm ads are terrible, and just getting those out of the way is worth my sub.

Yep I agree! I drive all day for work so 90% of the time I'm listening to youtube content. It's 100% worth it to get rid of algorithm ads and to be able to lock my phone while listening. Not to mention being able to download videos and not use all my data.

Yeah, the ads have been insane. Like even if I wanted to skip to another part, I immediately get hit by ads. I feel like I spend more time watching the ads than actually getting to actually consume the content. I know they're just doing this because they want to try to force people to subscribe rather than having UA-cam be a free platform. But when I checked out how expensive it is, my jaw dropped because it's considerably more than most streaming services for a single user. Thank you so putting out this video. I've had the UA-cam Premium account since 2014 when I decided to leave Pandora behind. I uploaded about 5K songs onto UA-cam Music from my home computer and then found an infinite amount of music related to my library in the years since then. Being able to build specific endless playlists and stream podcasts has also been great. It's probably the best thing I spend money on. Probably over 10,000 hours of ad-free videos in the past decade has been worth every penny.

I bought my You Tube premium through you tube. I made sure I got my free month. I compared paying monthly and yearly and I found I got a discount. So at the end of my free month I paid the yearly fee and I love it. I avoid Apple anything as much as possible.
I had been a Premium subscriber for more than 2 years through Apple. Last July (2023), I received an email from Apple notifying me of a price increase for the Premium service. The next day, UA-cam also sent me an email about the upcoming increase while letting me know how much I would save by subscribing directly to them. Which I did immediately.
Ok, so I have over 3,000 hours in 18 months, but I use it for background noise and to sleep to. Thank you so much for this hack. I finally got around to changing my sub when it went to $18.99 on the iPhone. It's $13.99 still for me via the web so that's a big win in my book. Thanks for the step by step on this. It was easy to do - only warning is to wait around 15-20 minutes between cancelling on the iPhone and signing up on the web as it takes a little time for the cancellation to flow through.
I have to share an addendum. Because I ended up purchasing UA-cam premium for the year based on these ideas. And what happened was I got charged, even ended up with a receipt, but it didn’t show which of my two accounts it went to. And yet neither one of them would run premium. Neither one of them showed premium. Instead, I had eight solid weeks of Hekate heck trying to get bank to talk to Credit card company to talk to UA-cam and vice versa. Because UA-cam is now deleted anyway for you to contact them. You end up in a loop just telling you to go back to the previous page to get help but if you click on the health page, it takes you to another page which tells you to go back to the health page. Aren’-t you annoyed? And you’ve only been reading this for 30 seconds as opposed to trying to do this on your own for eight weeks. In the end, I ended up getting a refund and absolutely no help from UA-cam. Am I going to try and buy premium again? Probably not. Hope this helps somebody out there and if you have had the same problem as me please comment because I would really like to help with other people that went through the same thing.
Another neat trick is to subscribe to family membership and share the cost with a family member or a friend who lives in the same country, instead of paying for separate memberships 🙂

In my experience they did not check that part but you can always make a new local account and call it family so they can use it even though they are outside of your residential address/zone.

I have 6,520 hrs of Ad Free Videos, 550 hrs background play, 710 hrs on youtube music, and watched 422 videos offline. Which I didn't even know I was downloading them. To be fair I forget and leave it running on the TV all the time so that probably contributes quite a bit. LOL
I've always hated ads but I also love being able to download and play on my own terms and especially at night when I don't want the Wi-Fi on. That makes it worth it to me although I do miss when they actually had premium content which seems to be non-existent now.
One important thing to remember about UA-cam premium directly supports the creators you like and watch by automatically giving every video you watch the full ad money they would get normally even if you don't watch the whole video. So it does support the creators more!

I'm huge fan of premium! I get a lot of value out of UA-cam Music with the amount of driving I've been doing for work, and the ad-free environment and background play are certainly big pluses!

But I don’t think you can use multiple emails for one premium subscription. I believe it locks to one email, but I do believe there is a “family plan” of sorts… you can also try it for I think 3 months for free? That’s what it was for me when I tried it, that might be gone now but you can do at least a month free and test it out!
I subscribed to avoid the ads as well. Now some of the videos have in content ads and that really pisses me off!
I would never even consider getting it at the current rates. The only thing I would use it for is to not see ads. No other benefit would be of any use to me. I don’t need to download anything. I don’t need to watch/listen the way you do with your podcasts and I don’t need the music. They are charging as much per month as the major streaming services, but they don’t have the same costs. All the creators are providing the content, and Google simply hosts it. For all the other streaming services, they provide the content and they still have to host it. So Google is just raking in money for letting things sit on their servers for the most part, that might be worth $3.99 a month but not the ridiculous amount they want. Actually, UA-cam premium should be a free benefit for UA-cam TV subscribers.

Honest question: Why would you pay for Spotify when you get access to UA-cam music for free with a premium membership? I use UA-cam Music and it's awesome. It gives you suggestions for playlists, remembers your likes, etc. All the usual music platform features PLUS it has all music on it. There's no "Amazon exclusive" or "iTunes exclusive" nonsense. When an artist releases anything, they always make a video that goes on UA-cam and that music is in UA-cam Music. So... I'm honestly curious what the appeal is for Spotify since I don't have it and am wondering why you would pay more for that or not cancel it once you got UA-cam Premium.
been using UA-cam Premium from back in the days when it was named UA-cam Red -- my sentiments are similar to yours - but I already had a subscription not using Apple's App Store so only paid about $10 per month. Recently upgraded to family so my wife could use it also as she is now watching a lot more UA-cam than she had in past years.

Actually even with UA-cam Premium you will be exposed to ads. Many UA-cam content creators are now embedding ad's in their videos. The ad's can be skipped of course, but it is still a pain. I feel these embedded ad's should not be allowed. If I pay for premium, I do not want to see ANY ads.
install the sponsorblock extension. It's a crowdsourced extension that allows people to mark where sponsored ads are in a video and then automatically skips them for you. If you see the ad first before it's reported, you can mark where the sponsored ad is for everyone else using the extension.

I’m following your advice, but there are a couple things. First, on iPad the interface is a little different, I actually really like to see the usage stats you’re talking about, but I wasn’t able to find them.
The other thing worth noting is that it doesn’t seem like the cancellation takes affect right away. In other words, it shows up in the Apple store, but it doesn’t show up in the app. And then, on desktop, at least within the first five minutes, the change doesn’t show up there. Not sure how long it will take before it shows up so that I can make the change.
Update: I had to wait until the email went out about 2 hours later that confirmed my membership was canceled, and then I was able to renew at the lower price.

Yes. I didn’t know the apple tax was a thing. I do not have a computer, just an iPhone and iPad. I cancelled just now but my subscription is good for about 2 more weeks. Tomorrow or the next day I will see if I can resub again at the lower price. If not I can always go back to apple store & resub at the same price I was paying. I really won’t have lost anything so why not try.

Thanks Cameron, FYI. Google won't honor what you already paid Apple. I cancelled through Apple on my iPhone. When pulling up my account on my PC it said it expires in 15 days (Oct 10th) as expected. Good I thought, Google knows that so I can sign-up now and I won't lose the 15 days I already paid for. No such luck, after providing my credit card and submitting - my CC was immediately charged and Google said it will renew in 30 days (Oct 26).

I waited until it expired, so the screen recording I shared is after. Some people in the comments seem to have indicated that it shows up just a few hours after you cancel, but I can’t confirm for sure.
I saved $5/mo for 2 full years on my UA-cam Premium subscription by qualifying as a student ($6.99/mo) before I finally had to start paying $11.99/mo because I was no longer eligible for the student discount. I’m surprised you didn’t mention this perk for students of accredited universities.

I listen to videos a lot while I'm doing housework, or when I'm donating plasma, I'm around 7600 in 26 months. But I also listen to some videos falling asleep and watch/listen to every single video at 2x speed. I feel like I'm wasting time watching at 1x speed. Once I figured that out (speed control) I haven't gone back, and UA-cam is what I watch 98% of the time. Like I'll have sports on the TV, and one earbud in, and listen or watch videos during the game. And my tv is linked with this account, so any videos my husband watches on TV counts as my hours.

I watch UA-cam more than any other streaming service. By alot. No ads is important and so is the closed viewing/audio experience as well as the download feature. But supporting the platform I love and making my view worth more to my favorite creators makes it a no brained.

Great information, Cameron. I agree with your statement about hating subscriptions, but this one (youTube Premium) is worth it.
I’ve been a member since Feb 21,2022 and I have 1,440hrs of ad free videos, 520hrs of background play, 660hrs of UA-cam music, and 35 videos watched offline.
I’ve unfortunately been hit with the Apple tax for close to 2 years now and hopefully can save a little bit going forward.
Edit- I’m a student now also and see the option for an even bigger reduction of what I was paying. Kicking myself for not looking into this further.

UPDATE: I normally use Firefox for web browsing, so when I had the aforementioned trouble subscribing to UA-cam Premium directly, I decided to try it in Safari. I logged out of my UA-cam account and logged back in via Safari, and the Premium option for $11.99 (+ tax) came up, and I was able to subscribe again successfully with UA-cam Premium DIRECTLY.

I'm a grandfathered Google Music introductory price subscriber for $10.81 (which includes sales tax), which started with just Play Music, then they added UA-cam Red at no extra cost, then UA-cam Premium, and then Google Play Music -> UA-cam Music. It has gone up a little from the original $7.99 (with no sales tax), but not too bad.

Premium isnt the only subscription I have that I really like, no just for no ads, but for UA-cam music. Plus UA-cam has a great library of free movies. Totally worth the price in my opinion.
Important question: If you do this, can you still use the same official UA-cam app from the Apple App Store to access UA-cam on my iPhone?
Because if I have to then use a browser window on my iPhone for UA-cam it's not worth it.

It’s not stinking greedy - they are providing a service, the App Store and a quick easy way to pay for and monitor subscriptions. They can’t do that for feee. Actually the whole world of apps is their invention. They can’t do that for free. That said I may look into re-subscribing to UA-cam premium through Google as this fellow recommends but I won’t be doing so spitting and cursing at so-called Apple greed.
I agree. Subscribing to premium is a must if you care about watching youtube regularly. Like with so many things they just have no sense of what is reasonable with ads. "More is better" is not always true and in many cases it is not. No, jamming as many ads as you can down people's throat is not better than if you didn't. Marketers are stupid anyway. Offending people is not the way to gain their positive approval of you.
Most of the time it is their algorithm doing it. Like Facebook's god-awful AI putting users "in jail" for things that shouldn't be marked like that.
It really isn't a must when there free apps you can use to not get ads.

I've never watched UA-cam for the music! I have Spotify for that. I only went w/YT Premium b/c I thought I would be able to watch additional content. Yet it's never been there & I'm still seeing ads every few minutes on every video I watch! 🤬😡
I signed up b/c I was so disgusted w/my cable carrier. I'm disgusted right now considering that I'm being charged every month but yet I keep being sent in circles and don't have any way of recovering my money! I purchased it b/c I was not supposed to have ads but yet there are no people to help me get these charges off.

As for the complaints about creator sponsor ads, fair enough. But it is the main way they make money. I'm sure most creators would rather not have them. Adsense doesn't pay very well at all, and at least you can skip the creators ads at will with no timer delay, etc. And honestly some of the creator ads can be legitimately entertaining.
You’re missing the perks here. I’m a day 1 UA-cam premium subscriber through the App Store. I pay 6 USD for UA-cam premium & music (family). Since I subbed through Apple and never cancelled my subscription, prices NEVER rise. I’m fully protected from price hikes, so I’d say if you have the on-launch UA-cam premium price, do not change your payment method or else you WILL pay more.
Im actually forced to download videos because of the bit rate youtube has and keeps screwing around with. they push me to 480p and this is not acceptable but Like you said you download videos - What downloader do you use? for PC and phone??
I've been trying to get premium via the website, but I keep getting the error "You need to change the address". No idea what address, but I keep getting that error (when trying to pay via Paypal). I see some messages about Paypal not working with Premium subscription. No idea why. I contacted support and I keep getting the same freaking e-mail: " you need to verify your account". Done that 6 times already, but no dice. Google support sucks, like hell. I don't want Google to have my credit card data. I don't trust Google with that information. But what else can I do? I want to watch videos, not ads interupted by videos. Anyone else having this problem? And what did you do to get the low price premium subscription?
I’ve used the family plan of Premium for years and love it and can’t imagine watching any other way! When I saw my friends YT with ads it took me out of the experience. It’s for sure worth it! Also, with the Family Plan you can invite up to 5 people and share the cost if you want.
And family members don't have to be legal family. Get together with a few friends and the price becomes crazy cheap.

Have been a Premium member for twelve months and I really love it. I connect to UA-cam Music every night to fall asleep to so that's a great bonus for me. Also, being able to play UA-cam videos even when the phone is locked and in my pocket is fantastic. Not an iPhone user so the Apple Tax is not a problem I have to worry about.

YES YES No more paying $19.99 (AUD) its now only $14.99 Thanks for letting us know. That would have been a saving of around $180 (AUD) if I had known about this 3 years ago. I got a 3 month trial few months back and I noticed depending on where I would be signing up for premium it was about $1-2 difference. One place was on the phone app and I can't remember where the other was, maybe on a browser or the App Store under subscriptions. I found that pretty odd.
What you're talking bout is so much more of a discount though. $11.99 is definitely a better price.
Having said that, the only part of premium I care about is no ads. I hate ads. I just don't $11.99 a month hate them. Think the most I'd pay for that would be like $5 but even then I'd prolly not go for it.
Ads are terrible. I had a 15 unskippable one couple months back. I had one shippable after 15 seconds but the AD ITSELF was literally over 3 hours!! Which is stupid. If I'm watching while doing dishes I don't want to have to stop and dry my hands off every few mins to skip a 3 hour long ridiculous ad. Last night had an hour long one show up.
I've been using UA-cam prime for about 2 years now, using VPN to set my location to Argentina (down there family plan is only $1.30 US dollars) but just this week they no longer take any of my cards. Anyone know a work around to it?

I feel like UA-cam premium is only really worth it if you watch UA-cam on your smart TV. And also the screen-off playing videos. That's it. If I was able to find a way to do those two things without paying for premium I wouldn't. I don't mind creators putting baked in ads, I can just skip them, and many creators also do it creatively (internet historian) so it makes it both hilarious and enjoyable to watch in addition to serving its purpose of being an ad. It also actually makes me more comfortable with whatever is being advertised so if more UA-camrs did that it would love that. UA-cam music is in my personal opinion garbage. I love my audio quality and Spotify is much better for that. (Tidal is better but I disagree with their business) if I want to really support a creator or artist I buy the album/donate directly. (Last note but personal preference for everyone is get rid of your Apple device. They are all baked together to trap you into a seemingly impossible to get out of "ecosystem" and makes you "think different"..... Also their business practices are probably the fucking worst along side their "customer service")

I've had youtube red/premium for around 10 years or something. I've had both the 1 user and multiple user premium accounts.
It's definitely worth it and makes the experience much more pleasant. UA-cam music also makes it worth it.
If you split the cost with other people, it's a no brainer. I have high usage with this platform and it's music service. Overall I think it's a high value service.

Besides all that, people need to do research themselves and rely on their own judgements, especially with something so trivial and miniscule as what we're bickering about.
So in summary, I stand by what I said and will further modify it for increased accuracy so no one else whines about it. Keep in mind I specifically said "10 years or something", which means approximately or roughly. So yes it is close.
If you actually wanted to help out and be useful, you would have done a 10sec google search for that information I just found and listed it right here for others to benefit from, but you didn't.

They raised the prices now, though it's definitely worth it if you find value in youtube or youtube music services.

@@zeeMuniStacksBundles I think an especially important detail with the Family plan is that it's an actual plan meant to be shared; you get to invite all 5 of the other accounts so people just use what they use. I think this is the same as something like Spotify Family, but it is importantly different from how tv streaming services handle Premium accounts which is what people share--where there's just one account with multiple profiles.
It's actually kinda insane how it runs on the same model as Spotify costing about the same when it has a ton of benefit aside from UA-cam Music, which I already prefer on its own compared to Spotify.

You can only watch or listen to your downloads on UA-cam only, you can save them on your pc to use later in your own video
November 22 the price goes up to 29.99 for us. We canceled because of all the different companies that increased the price UA-cam went up by a full 7$. It was far cheaper to go to Hulu, Disney and Espn. I suggest you cancel UA-cam and get Hulu bundle instead.

YT Premium is my go to subscription. If I could only have one, this would be it.
People pay £10 a month for Spotify alone, but with YT Premium you get the benefits of a standalone music streaming service along with add free UA-cam for just another £2 a month.

As someone who never uses apple... the apple tax really irritates me. I've been a yt family plan subscriber for a lonnng time. I used to use yt music, but I had to go on Spotify for a particular playlist and it's definitely superior in regards to music.
