Cap’n, I don’t know, maybe. But there are a few things that sold me. I skipped the first X and was using a pre-X interface with Thunderbolt 2 and a cheap Focusrite Clarett OctoPre to get more inputs. It never worked well like that. Maybe I got a lemon, but I think the Focusrite was a piece of junk. Maybe their higher end Red line is better or comparable with Universal quality. The things I like about the gen 2 Apollo are 1) much better dynamic range compared to my older tech 2) I will be able to monitor with or without a sub by not having to use my subs crossover (although, it is an excellent and highly adjustable one). I’m less crazy about speaker correction, as I’ve always found that introduces more problems than it solves, at least with home Theater. I am adding acoustical treatment to my studio (finally) so hopefully I’ll have a better starting point from which to subtlety adjust. So if you have Gen 1, and you don’t need the subwoofer feature, I agree, not worth it. But if you have a model T like me, I couldn’t wait. I ordered two today.
@@manvince SPARC offloads processing from your computers CPU. I think AVID and McDSP do also, but UA has the largest collection of plugins that can be offloaded to SPARC. RME still requires your computers CPU to handle all the processing. So old or not, it helps prevent latency issues and DAW crashes.
IF the chip works why change it?? people always saying its an old chip but the wanna buy vintage gear??? makes no sense if the performance is there its there why reinvent the wheel and get new chips that have issues SMH!!!!! new not always better!! apple M1 performs better for music then the M2 how you explain that? come on guys lets just make music :)
@@brucejoyce9934 it’s both A/D and D/A conversion that has been upgraded according to Drew at UA. Only the x16 was not because it’s already the best chip for that unit atm.
I just read the title. The answer is no. It's almost the same hardware, and a lot of the software features are coming to the gen 1 as well. Better get an Apollo x gen1 at a disccount
I just got rid of ADAT such terrible connectors if you look at them cross-eyed they pop out. But that’s how I would use ADAT, for a high quality mic pre, maybe Apogee, Focusrite etc. But you want to stack Apollos with Thunderbolt to get the most out of the Apollo Console. And Thunderbolt is the only way the Sparc processors can be used by the unison slots.
@@musiqsoundsproductionsplugins work on any channel, those inputs on the Apollo, or ADAT channels coming from another device. But Unison plugins take a special slot on the console and require interaction with the Apollo hardware to match impedance, gain staging, and other characteristics of the hardware that the Unison plugin is emulating.
I need that auto gain and room correction on my X8P. Darn thing has cost me a fortune already.
the auto gain is a gimmick and could easily be given to existing Apollo users thru an update. not worth upgrading

It’s not a software feature. It’s working on the unit itself. So no it couldn’t. And won’t work on older gen
For real.
Even Audient's EVO series has this and those less than 500 bucks and sound stellar.
Everything new could be given as an update yo us
@@riktascale4 how, the boards are all new in these units. It’s not the same device. Just the same DSP
UA still using ancient DSP chips from 2008 in 2024 is atrocious and a deal breaker for me. I'm going with RME for my next interface
uad is now It will no longer be able to survive in the audio market. They were eliminated along with their old shark chip inventory.

The conversion is the same?
No the conversion has been updated
most likely! - manuals show 1db gains mostly - that's margin of error stuff. If you have a gen 1 - still plenty good enough.
Practically yes. Sub 5% decrease of noise floor and THD in the 115 - 130 domain is already good enough. It's not the converter that will limit you.

I have the First release Apollo Twin with a Satellite. Nothing here wants me to upgrade.
The Sonarworks feature came to Merging first :)

Yes it's worth it.
You don’t stack Apollos with the ADAT (1:33). You stack with thunderbolt.
Very true! Although you could stack in theory? Or use another ADAT interface if you have one lying around?

You can stack both
You can use either one on Apollo's. Unison works on both too.
