When you listen to other groups, it's harder to point out who's singing which is not the case in SHINee because of how unique their tone is. You can immediately tell who's who.

I was super curious how the reactors would take it, because I remember being SO CONFUSED the first few times I heard it. It's more accurate of me to say I love PARTS of it and like the rest. That being said, I honestly cried the first live performance Jonghyun was able to join them, because hello I missed it but also his voice added another dimension to the song.

I listened to them before the video and Why So Serious became in INSTANT FAVE of mine and I immediately bought it! I would really recommend people to go to listen to the songs on the MVs!
I was grinning and nodding the whole time when they talked about Onew's voice. But then again like yeah it's SHINee.. all of the members have different beautiful voices. Also, I find it ironic when they were analysing Why So Serious.. cos for me the title of the song says it all xD Don't be so serious and don't try to make sense of the song, and just enjoy it. The song is so crazy I looooveeee it to death cos SHINee rocked that song anyway. They rocked every concepts and genres tbh

I can understand your nervousness about the song as Classical music tends to be high on structure and musical progressions and suites of intruments doing what they were designed to do. I love 'Why So Serious' because it's just the opposite. It has a freedom that's fun to hear and feel and the surprises it throws at you make it such an interesting song to listen to. I love that thumping base drum and the bass guitar riff churning through the song for all the mad stuff to hang off of. Much preferred it to 'Dream Girl'. Thanks for bringing this song to my attention. It's now in my KPop playlist.
As a classically trained musician myself, i actually feel strongly that WSS is a song that 'improves' upon multiple listens. I didn't like it massively the first time I heard it, but now it's one of my favourites-- not least because of its uncompromising experimentation. It's so SHINee! No other group could pull off this bat-shit crazy pop-funk-grunge-hiphop, zombie-love fusion fest!
Nothing saves WSS, and it's because Jonghyun wasn't part of it. He would have gotten the arrangement and the mix whipped into shape into better proportions. He also would have added some great vocal runs and gotten the bridge under control. Without him, WSS was a disaster.
So happy these songs were reviewed! In “why so serious?” defense, it’s meant to be all over the place. They were referring to the cookie cutter formations of songs in the industry
Harmony. That's the word I would pick if I were to describe SHINee. They have so much harmony, in their fast-paced songs, especially in their slow and romantic songs, extra harmonious when they do acapella. Each voice is unique but blended very well.

I would recommend you to watch their live performances as part of vocalist react to. Songs recommendations; symptoms, like a fire, stranger, excuse me miss, Orgel, One minute back,Odd eye, Onew singing Nessum Dorma and a lot more will pop up if you decide to react to them. 👍🏻
