I think the main reason why the mv has less views than other of their mvs is the mv was actually refering to a tragedy of The Sewol Ferry Disaster

Actually, 'One of These Nights' MV is content about victims of Sewol ferry. Each scenes symbolize that victims had died and hope to meet their families in heaven. Also One of These Nights' Korean title is July 7. July 7 is the meeting day of the two love-stars(the Altair and the Vega) in Korean folk tale. So Red Velvet used this metaphor to cherish the memory of victims.
Actually it's not necessarily July 7th, ut it's 7th month 7th day, since Korea uses the lunar calendar.

If you think about it Red Velvet as we know it has a lot to do with the Sewol tragedy. Red Velvet was gonna Debut in 2015 but because of the tragedy SM wanted to release a song to cheer people up so they had Red Velvet Debut with Happiness. Yeri Didn’t Debut with them because she was 15 and it would have been hard for her to promote because of Child Labor Laws.

I feel like they really like most of SM's songs. Hate SM all you want but you can't deny that they produce the most unique sounds in Kpop.
Shimme Shimme Ko Ko Bop SM is truly amazing but fucking stupid with their artists.
kkaeb SONG they don't have hundreds of idols, it's not about fairness that much, but about overloading their schedules to the point of them getting sick and fainting.
Emujin Zolbayar actually they do. Not like hundreds by almost thousands, but definitely like almost or about 200 of them.
Youd be surprise how many artists debuted today was from SM but left, change company or gave up overall.
Emujin Zolbayar SM has noticeably gotten better with their idols. All idols have overloaded schedules. Have you seen how packed smaller companies make their rookie groups schedules? SM artists are treated well on a standard of how all other companies treat their idols. Even though it can be unhealthy and I don’t support it, all companies give their idols packed schedules, not just sm.
The most unique ? What are you talking about, Hyukoh alone has more unique vibe than all their group. They just do normal kpop how are they unique
Really disappointing their velvet side didn't take off in Korea as much as the Red side did because I think those tracks showcase their talents so well

I'm kinda disappointed that Umu didn't bring up the really important concept of One of These Nights which is the Sewol Ferry Incident. The video's motifs and theme was that about the tragedy. Yeri is in the same age group of those students from the incident, and so she doesn't escape the water. It made me appreciate the video so much more. At the time, I was very affected by the incident, as so many young people were lost due to an adult's poor and greedy decision. Idk, I feel like Umu leaves out a lot of important context to different Kpop songs, maybe due to being in the fandom for not very long. Perhaps you can do more research in case a song/video has really important background context? I'm so glad everyone liked the song though. Red Velvet is my favourite girl group and this is one of the reasons why. :)
Definitely. Also, the background of the lyrics themselves - a lot of their criticisms were that the song "doesn't go anywhere" or "keeps coming back to the same place". If you know that the song is sung from the perspective of an immortal who is basically stuck in time and only lives/sees their partner once a year that makes sense. It's a stylistic choice.

the video was supposed to show of how many people died and the few who did, I think it was Irene, Seulgi,Wendy and Yeri who died in the video and Joy was the one who survived showing what happened.

Definitely felt like one of these nights shouldve been explained, it really connected with musical elements they noticed. Especially when one explained tha i was like going around left corners and always finding something new but it was still the same. I imagine that's what the ferry victims felt :( I still tear up at the song every time it plays.

i mean i get why it's bitter the velvet side won't be a focal point anymore but the era really hindered the girls' trajectory and the girls' own mental health :( i know it should be for the art and not for the charts but it's a smart decision to keep the velvet tracks as (amazing) b-sides since the public has shown they don't really care about it (it hurts but the numbers don't lie)
One of these Nights is not only one of my favorite kpop song but it's one of my favorite songs overall.
I found them comment on music technique on SM's songs way more than others. Is it because SM music is so different?
Although Gwen and Hugo(King and Queen) thought the vocals for OOTN was underwhelming, I thought they were beautiful and absolutely perfect for this song. The vocals held a certain fragility and softness that didn't over power the background instrumentals. They both instead balanced each other and supported equally.

Red Velvet is the most accomplished girl group music and concept wise in this generation, they have created a diverse catalogue tackling different genres and even creating completely new ones. Amazing, fun, tasteful music with soul and meaning!

Red Velvet has the highest song quality ever. Each of their songs are at top notch quality, you can really differentiate their songs and other girl groups' songs. Red Velvet is freaking awesome.

Even 2 years later, this holds true. rvstill got such HIGH quality songs with Psycho being their latest title track. And I hope they win their first Daesang (Song of the Year) with this one, because they are currently the idol's with the highest digital sales in Korea. I can't have Red Velvet not win at least one in their career without such recognition.

Melissa Rose Gonzalez They aren't my bias group but I can easily say they are one of the most consistently good groups in kpop. I've love their music since their debut. I even loved Rookie even though people complianed about. I'm not a fan of their most recent title track but I still liked the b-sides so they have never let me down.

It is really heartbreaking because they were supposed to be happily going on a trip, but never returned. In the MV you can find a lot of details - being on a boat (2:05), the interior of a ferry (4:34), being soaked in water because the ferry is sinking (3:54), window broken due to increased water pressure (4:08), image of a keyhole and the symbolism of being locked up/nowhere to escape (4:13) and objects floating in the air(water) as they're underwater (4:29)...and so much more
I was smiling through the entire video. I'm so glad people are appreciating not only their Red side but their Velvet side. I agree, OOTN is such an intelligent song. When I first listened to it, my eyes were closed but I kept on opening them out of surprise because of the unpredictable elements they put in.
Red Velvet may not be the most popular girl group but they're slowly getting there. As a Reveluv, it really makes me proud. 💕

I hated Rookie because of the vocals, but it has one of the best RV instrumentals.
Honestly their first Velvet releases were all great but the latest was very ballad-y and not really RV which is why I think it flopped so hard, and I personally didn't enjoy it that much musically, but I agree that their softer more sensual side is underrated.

Tamara Bc RVs vocals are usually ACE it’s just I think the way they made them deliver it (you know talk rapping) wasn’t good and ruined the song for me. The chorus sounded annoying, the lyrics weren’t great either. Kind of devastating cause I thought the song had way more potential and then it fell flat.

Oh my god! RV is my favorit I-dol group and these songs are my favorit songs..... 'One of these night' is very interesting song. Because the musicvideo is include the accident of '세월호(I don't know how to say it in English:( sewol-ship???)'. It is terrible accident of I never seen before, and it caused hundreds of deaths. Most of the victims were high school students, because the captain of the ship ran away and said, 'You stay here'. The song 'One of these year' musicvideo is includ it. So I love it. And 'dumb dumb!!!!!!!!' Really I love it. I like the color of the musicvideo, the funny mood, and I like lyrics! This album was released in 2015, but it is still my favorite red velvet song. Very well put Henry at 3:06, the lyrics of this song is telling about how they will always remembers the tragedy and its victims like they will meet them again in their dreams, so yeah it makes sense if u feel like its always a turn left and it comes back to the same place cause One of These Nights is a reminisence of the Sewol Tragedy

Red velvet's song is really different from the others. They should be more appreciated. They're not mainstream and keeps on exploring. Only few kpop groups can do that. Their songs are classy and always has a new taste therefore, not all listeners can appreciate that because they prefer catchy songs. If you have a classy and music minded person, red velvet is for you. #reigning in both genres

Please let them watch Red Velvet on "Yoo Hee Yeol Sketchbook" where they sing these two songs LIVE. One of these nights is actually SM making a (not so) subtle jab at gov regarding the sewol ferry incident and also pays tribute to the victims. They released the songs late and people were so angry about it. If u feel angry about the late music release, can u imagine the anger and sadness of the parents of the children who died in that incident because of the crews selfishness and also the delayed rescue missions? As for the video and lyric interpretation....i hope you'll find a chance to explain it to them soon! It's a very meaningful song and the song that ultimately turned me into a loyal af ReVelLuv

Aj B no, I have to strongly disagree they don't create the most or the best kpop idols. There are many groups with so much better songs but sm has a strong marketing which makes you think they are the best but they really are not.

Its true that many other kpop groups from other company are good as well, but as you said their marketing is powerful and I think, although its just my opinion, marketing in kpop is everything. Sure, other groups are great, but without enough marketing no one will ever notice them, which is a sad fact.

Red Velvet IS the best girl group of the 3rd generation overall. I mean, they're not no. 1 in the aspects of girl groups individually (e.g. singing, dancing, visuals, etc.) But overall, they're the best. Vocally, Mamamoo is 1st and Red Velvet comes second. Choreography-wise, Gfriend is first and Red Velvet comes second. Visually, Blackpink, then Red Velvet. Performance-wise, Mamamoo then Red Velvet. Promotion-wise, Twice then Red Velvet. BUT because they come second in ALL aspects, they become the best girl group overall.
I'm not hating them by saying they come second per aspect. It's actually their strength.

One of these nights was a homage to the Sewol Ferry Incident. And some Reveluvs have suspected that Dumb Dumb is SM's way of poking fun at the haters who say their idol groups are manufactured.
Edit: There are a few other Kpop MVs which are said to reference the Sewol Ferry Incident like BTS's Spring Day & F(x)'s Red Light. Out of these 3, the only one confirmed was Red Light. Also the Dumb Dumb theory is old & probably wrong. But personally, i believe people can interpret an MV however they want. There will probably never be a definite answer.

Well SME gets all the best song producers around the globe for Red Velvet, which gives them a unique feel for every every album they release. Honestly, I find Red Velvet's discography a great listening experience(same for Mamamoo, AKMU, Shinee, and Taeyeon), they contain less filler songs and I can listen to them straight from top to bottom without skipping a song. Music video-wise, Red Velvet also has the best concepts for their music videos, which gives them a signature feel you can only experience from them.

Red Velvet have tons of velvet songs in their albums as B-sides, and their 2 station releases are velvet side.
Their album photobooks look like a mixture of red and velvet too (despite the title tracks being pure red), people need to stop acting like the velvet side is completely gone.
Sadly Red Velvet wont make a velvet song a title again at least not for a good time because they need to stablish themselves and the public dont dig it.

One of these nights is like the saddest songs I love, cause if you guys didn’t know, it was based on a ship I forgot the name since it was in 2016, but it has a bunch of students going on a school trip to Jeju Island, on the way the ship like started to wobble and start to roll over to the side slowly, the sad bit it that, the staff didn’t do anything to get everyone to safety, but to just only stay in their rooms while the some staffs were already on a boat outta there, there’s videos of students saying goodbye to their loved one, it’s really sad if u watch the video about it

I've been watching this video many times but here I am again. Its very satisfying to see their reaction in Red Velvet's songs. I never get tired of their reaction.
One of these Nights is one of my favorite k-pop songs. Sadly, it was greatly under appreciated by many during its release and was seen as a step in the wrong direction because of lower sales compared to their Red side title tracks. Its lyrics was telling a story (from a Korean folklore) of two separated lovers that meet once a year every 7th day of the 7th month (I cried) and some fans theorized that the MV was an unofficial tribute to the Sewol Ferry Disaster (I cried some more.)
It's been a while since I've seen the reactors so alive and torn between 2 songs from a group. I'm so happy RV songs got so much love from the them. Thanks so much Umu for adding OOTN and Dumb dumb to the list! I think I see future Reveluvs.

I played flute and piccolo for seven years but never had a chance to study theory, so my understanding isn't as in depth as I'd like. even so, I'm more aware of the textures and complexity in the songs, despite not knowing all the theory and technicalities that define them, and it makes listening to music even more engaging now. thanks for enriching my life in such a profound way!! :)

I just realized why SM music always sound different from any other groups in Kpop beside their talented artists but also because SM has their own music. If any other person out there called SM as greedy for winning over the first place. They gotta be think that SM just being their own self.
