- As a tribute to the many lives lost and countless lives affected by the recent attacks in Paris, the American Music Awards invited Celine Dion to sing a "chanson" popularized by French vocal legend Edith Piaf. Celine was fighting off a cold but her raw emotional performance moved many to tears and to a standing ovation.

I don't care if she had a cold, was flat, wasn't on form (she had a bad cold, was having a rubbish time personally, and her in-ear monitors were playing up). This is remarkably powerful. Yes of course she was off. She came out of mourning for her husband and for her brother with a slight cold to do this show and she had problems with the on-stage sound. But she did it because she was asked to do this for the people of Paris and France.
He had not passed yet neither did her brother , but she had to leave him home when she didn’t want to because he was ready to let go at anytime. He passed Dec 16th her brother Dec 18th 2016. She loves Paris so much and felt under the circumstances she was honored to sing for the people.

Not a song for France, it's a love song for people written by Edith Piaf in~1948 after meeting the love of her life Marcel Carden, with whom he was having an affair. She first sung the song in Sep 1949 in NY, USA. He was killed in Air France flight 009 crash on 28 Oct 1949, while on route to be with her in NY. She recorded the song in 1950. His son Marcel Jr played his dad in the 2007 global hit and award winning movie - La Vie en rose (English version) named after her hit song she wrote in 1945, she was a French global pop star. She never fully got over his death, declined and died in 1963 at only 47.
On and for this occasion only Celine could have done this cover, which was fabulous.
