  • Its time for some cleaner air in the shop. I decided I'm going to use a small furnace blower as the base for my air cleaner. I'll use some 1/2" plywood to house the motor and filter. This shop air filter works awesome and moves a lot of air.

    That jig saw is a beast. I was just thinking about doing something like this and wanted to watch someone else think through the process first, thanks for posting your project.
    I am thinking about asking some local hvac contractors if they could save a blower from a used furnace they are throwing away, or the whole furnace so I can cut the blower assembly out myself. We will see how that goes.

    I don't have oddball parts like a blower hanging around, but what I did for a bench top air cleaner was use one of those cheap box fans, and then tape a 20"x20" furnace filter on the "inlet" side. Works great when placed close to my projects as I'm sanding. Vacuum the filter a few times, then eventually replace it. Cheap, easy, and I'm going to make a few more to just hang from the ceiling.

      Yes, I've seen this done before. Super easy to put together and very portable. Way to go.

    good video Jeff. I have been following along on Instagram with this build and was curious how it was going to turn out. Great job and you have inspired me to do a very similar build.

    Hi. Just discovered your channel. Just the kind of stuff I LOVE to watch because I also LOVE to fix things myself. Aso, I love the deleted scenes at the end, it will make me laugh in the future when working on my projects and something funny happens rather than going like ''rrrr***&$"&''... LoL. I also have 2 young kids myself (single daddy here), so every time I'm watching a video and I hear or see a young kid showing up , it always put a big smile on my face:):):) !!! New subscriber here for sure!!! When I discover a channel like yours, I always feel like a kid walking in a candy store :). Tks.

      Thank you. Welcome aboard the channel. I like to try to include scenes like that. We're all human, and stuff happens. Just laugh and move on.

    Oh, yeah, I can understand the feeling of mismatched colors as well as other things that most people think nothing about.

    Nice build Jeff. I particularly like the corner door to access the filter. Trying to pinch the end of a dirty filter by the end through a thin slot is a pain. Because the filter is so close to the circular intake port, I wonder if you find the filter loading up more over the circular opening? A larger space between the filter and the smaller port might allow the air to be pulled better through the larger surface of the filter.

      Thanks. It seems to load up fairly uniformly. I don't notice buildup in one specific area. I need to change the filter, maybe I'll make an update video on it.

    Great idea great video thanks for posting this. I would think it works so good you will be changing the filter regularly. Might have been better with a readily available (read as cheap) filter.

      I have a solution for that. I'll be doing a video on it. 👍

    This project just sucks...then it blows... like you weren't expecting someone to post like that in the comments... lol Nice project. It beats my square box fan with two filters wire tied to it. Thanks for the video, Jeff! Thumbs up for sure.

      Thanks, I have it sitting on a shelf but if you wanted to hang it up, you could put some eye bolts in the top and use some small chain to hang it.

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  3 роки тому

      I don't have any numbers for the motor. The blower came from a small furnace from a mobile home.

    Where would I be able to find an old furnace blower like the one in your video?
    All the ones I see online are “too nice/new”... and expensive 😬
