  • Drum nerd/new gear alert! Roland released their VH14 Digital Hats 3 years ago along with the TD50 module upgrade to the 50X. I dove right in for the 50X upgrade on Day 1, but chose to ‘sit & wait’ for the hats. Why? I was using a set of VH13’s, and the playability & response on those where really very good. Did I need to spend $1,000 to ‘upgrade’? I played them on a stock TD27 and frankly wasn’t fully impressed. But, in fairness, that was a stock TD27 with no sound editing, and I always knew the 14’s are better than my 13’s. Plus, I always want the best gear I can get. After much debate along with spending WAY too many hours watching every video I could find on the 14’s, I finally took the plunge recently and upgraded to the 14’s. Full disclosure - I always knew the 14’s were a sizable upgrade from the VH10’s, the 11’s and the 12’s…but I wasn’t sold that there would be that much of a difference from my 13’s. Boy, was I wrong! The 14’s are obviously larger, but they play lighter, too. They’re FAR more articulate and expressive. The foot chick is MUCH more responsive, foot splashes are a lot more natural, it’s easy to do a hat scoop, and they’re highly responsive to playing half open/sloshy where the 13’s were nearly impossible to do so. Check ‘em out….
    Thanks for watching!

    Hey Dennis 👋
    Congratulations 👏
Have you edited the V14 Hi-Hats or
is that standard mix through the TD50?
Did you ever use the TD30 module?

Thanks! Yes, I edited the trigger settings for how I play. My 50X module’s sounds are heavily edited. I owned the 30 for many years and upgraded to the 50 in 2017 when it was released and then upgraded my 50 to the X Day 1. The 30 was always my fave module, UNTIL the X upgrade. The X is Roland’s best, by FAR. I’ve owned virtually every module since the 10

      Hi Dennis
Have you ever done a detailed video on how you've edited your custom sounds/tones/dynamics on the
      Roland TD30/TD50 Modules? 🥁

@@christiangibbs391 No. I am a HUGE fan of sound packs and have been using them for many years - Vexpression & Drum-Tec especially. I found this vide very helpful & watched it many times. :ua-cam.com/video/lfulD6BkS-A/v-deo.html I also copy & paste pieces of kits all the time, and then do further tweaking to fit my ear. It takes time to learn, but it is REALLY helpful. It's also helpful to dig into the menus to see how Vex uses all the sub-menus. Also, watch DrumAngle's video on SD3...he does a great job explaining how to tweak your trigger settings. That is SUPER important, not only when/if you use VSTs, but in general, too

Its great with the module but I find it not as good through Superior Drummer 3 and especially DWs Sondworks VST

Drum Angle has a very detailed video showing how to dial in the settings in SD3. ua-cam.com/video/z7RsXdL6U9E/v-deo.html
