Are all of those ads on sides of the Pocket now site static? Seems a bit unfair doing a web browsing speed test on a website with changing Google ads. May not make a huge difference but still something to consider...
Hey Brandon, just so you know, when you did the app download speed, it doesn't matter. They are on the same WiFi ( I assume) so all they are doing is battling for bandwidth.
You should look at the clock in statusbar of the device, not video player... when he unlocked the phone it was 12:23PM, after he finished those speed and browsing tests it was past 1 PM.
Dude why did you use fast boot, Fast boot is an option that ignores a lot of processes when booting so it boots much faster. Still the galaxy s3 did perform as good as the HTC and it's a year old.
anyone else realised that the htc one lost 7% battery in around 10 mins? even with constant use thats bad..I think when reviewers are reviewing battery life they should mention screentime! no major reviewers does that!
Performance on phones with everyday tasks has really plateaued. Only way you'll notice a difference are when apps render things like pics, video, and audio. What's really going to make the difference for regular consumers now is software features.
@mamar21 the s4 benchmarks were with the prototype snapdragon 600, but the gs4 will have the same model CPU as the one in the us and an exynos5 octa internationally!
SD cards used to have a security layer, you needed a password to access them. To bad they didn't bother adding the feature when you put them in devices such as phones, tablets, etc..
Being brutally honest, my S3 is starting to fail on me. It shuts off randomly, there are graphical bugs everwhere, massive lag spikes in touchwiz, JB Cyanogenmod helped the ui a bit but apps still lag.... I dont know if the S4 or HTC one are any better. maybe I just need to wait for the 5s... or whatever apple comes up with.
Yes, and the silly thing is, the all eight cores don't work simultaneously, they work in groups. 4XCortex A7 cores in all normal tasks and 4XCortex A15 in power taking tasks like games and e.t.c.
Another thing, the S3 being only a sec or two slower the the One just shows that the S3 isn't a phone to throw away yet. I want to see the HTC One X vs HTC One, let's see what HTC has done with the software.
Nice comparison but one thing that I didn't like was the boot up test: literally nobody cares if the phone boots up in 15 seconds or 2 minutes. There are way too many factors to make it a fair comparison.
Its actually amazing that the S3 can come close to the One considering its a year old. The S3 has definitely passed then test of time. Still a great phone. The S4 will out sell every smartphone this year.
The S3 is S2 from last year. The reason I say this is because when the S2 was 1yo and compared to newer devices eg. onex everyone said that it was really awesome that a 1 yo phone comes close to the new flagships. And it's the Same with the S3 :)
"a heir slower" I'm assuming you meant "a hair slower", in case you didn't see the HTC One's benchmark was 12,000 while the GS3 was at 5,000. I don't about you, but that seems like a pretty big hair.
I have the s3 and it works fine for me no complaints here .the HTC one does not have a removable battery and you can't expand more data to very big no nos in my book Samsung rules
I dont understand people's fixation with the s3 feeling 'cheap'. I've had mine for over a year and not once has the feel of it bothered me. It doesnt feel cheap, it feels like a brilliant piece of software which I find close to faultless
True. Look at the phone's clock at the times noted. In a 38 minute span the phone dropped 8%, or 100% in an 8 hour day. And in that 8% drop, the One doesn't even have 4G running. Buy the phone and enjoy being tied to needing to be charging it mid-day EVERY day until you say "enough is enough" and get rid of it.
You seem partial to the Samsung product. When the Samsung does something well you use the word definetly. When the HTC does well you use the word slightly. Just a thought.
How does this make sense? The s3 was never meant to go up against the htc one... The same way the iPhone 4S was never really meant to go up against the gs3. Make another comparison when you get the s4.
did you realised that it wasn't 10 mins but roughtly 40 mins. check the time on the phones: from 12:23 to 1:01 went from 88% to 80% so basically 8% for 38 mins. do that with the galaxy s3
i hope that htc will make the nexus 5 with boom sound speakers,13mp ultrapixel camera,a gorgeous design with premium materials,on screen buttons ,removable battery, expandable storage and also a super amoled display if possible
Brandon, slow down, you said S3 is lighter, than One is lighter ( instead of thicker ), One images will not look good on iPad and Nexus 10 ( they will be scalled DOWN, they will look good ).
Then again, it is important for people who owns the Galaxy S3 if they would switch to the HTC One or for people who uses a lower range device and decides whether he/she will go with Samsung or HTC.
I am actually a little disappointed with the One's camera. Pictures look fine (especially in the dark!), but the moment you zoom in a little, you can clearly see the lack of detail. On the other hand, it takes better videos than the S4 imo, which is mostly what I use my phone for, so I don't care for high-detail pics that much. I also really really like the wide-angle lens.
It's 4 megapixels, the only difference is that the pixels are larger and they let in more light. Other than that it's a 4 megapixel camera. 2mm pixel size means that there are less pixels in a picture because they're larger pixels.
06:45 That lag on the S3 when you press the home screen button. *sigh* I've got an S3 and it really does get tiresome. It's not just the home screen button, the touch screen too feels alot less responsive than my old HTC Desire HD.
What are you making? A poster? You speaking to a photography major here, rule number one of photos, enlarge anything past is home resolution it will look noisy and low quality. MP doesn't mean quality, and im pretty sure everyone would agree the S3's camera is rubbish, I own both phones and I have battled these cameras to the wits end and the HTC one wins it. You can go to the highest ISO on the S3 to try to get it to expose in the low light situations that the HTC one killed it in and it can't.
why everyone bothering the plastic on the samsung handsets ? probably plastic makes it more affordable as its price lowers , if it used metal and glass it would be more expensive , so i think samsung doing some social service and with all the best features and engineering
SGS4 = new SW features HTC1 = boom sound SXZ = water and dust proof HW Each of these flagship devices has something new. The HTC1 appeals to me the most though.
I'm currently a S3 owner and i don't agree with you at all! The One is made out of quality materials and it got stereo front facing speakers. Truly made for music, video and games.
I don't understand why people like metal so much on phones. I would far prefer a soft plastic on the back of my phone, it is less likely to dent and scratch, and it is cheaper, plus it feels better in the hand.
The HTC One is a beast phone i'll give it that but I'd still much rather stick with Samsung and my Galaxy S3. The HTC One X and iPhone 5 were the S3's competition not the One (that's S4's job) but for a 2012 phone it held up really well.
S3 is overall Thinner than the HTC One. .34 vs .36inch. The illusion is the thinnest tapered edge of the HTC. Not a big deal just saying. Also I thought the bezels on the sides of screen of S3 were a lot wider than htc but if you look at them they are almost the same. The 'pebble' design on S3 makes it appear wider.
The HTC One's pixels are larger than the ones used by iPhone or any other phone, that's why they call them "Ultrapixels." If what I read about them is correct, they let in much more light, therefore sacrificing image size for superior quality in low-light situations. You can have a 13 MP camera, if it's shitty, the image is gonna be shitty, no matter how large it is.
Yes,but, the S3 is one year old.It is a 2012's device. The HTC One is brand-new and it is more improved.Well, the S4 will blow the HTC One and the Sony Xperia Z out when it comes to specs!
I don't think the One will be more successful than the S4. HTC has always had better build quality but they always tend to fall short on software. The One X was so much better than the S3 in build but it never got close to being better than it.
Polycarbonate is still plastic anyway you look at it, it all goes down too if you want a premium feeling phone or a cheap plastic feel, I have had a GS3 and it certainly doesn't feel premium.
If S3 is faster, he says "only half a second faster" If HTC One is faster, he says "Yep its faster." Has dirty back peice on HTC, says "it does not show finger prints at all" A weird smudge on S3 from sticker or something, says "finger prints everywhere" but I dont see it after he touches it with finger I dont know about this review...
Exactly!! a lot better... HTC One looks great, Love the body, Love the speakers.. not a fan of its whole set up (and that 4 mega/ultra cam... seems a bit of a step backwards, feels like they couldn't fit a decent cam because of the shape of uni-body, so gave it a low end cam with a fancy name....then again i could be wrong)
the problem is that they don't have a S4 to use. The S3 is pretty much the same thing as the S4, minus the screen and the camera and processor, so Its a decent comparison
Are all of those ads on sides of the Pocket now site static?
Seems a bit unfair doing a web browsing speed test on a website with changing Google ads.
May not make a huge difference but still something to consider...
Why isin't this video uploaded in 1080p? Hard to see results and differences at 480p.
Does the HTC One have the text "centralizer" (really don't know what it's called). When you pinch to zoom it fits the text to the screen.
in the browser test how do you know that htc one is not faster by much when you keep stooping the page on sgs3 before it finish loading!!!!?????
Who cares about viewing angle? I can safely say that most people view their phones head on.
How can you compare their performance when the S4 hasn't been released yet?
Missed brandon mininmaan vids.. welcome back dude.. and nice review..
What's that Motorola style battery widget on HTC One? Looks so eye pleasing.
Why didn't you do a speaker comparison?
@pocketnowvideo how can the htc feel lighter if it's 10 grams heavier? I have an s3 and it is so light in the hand!
There are few versions of HTC One like X + etc. which one is it?
Hey Brandon, just so you know, when you did the app download speed, it doesn't matter. They are on the same WiFi ( I assume) so all they are doing is battling for bandwidth.
do you carry a extra battery in your pocket?
Why didn't you play videos and test the audio???
Do you had settings Display / Auto adjust screen tone switched to Off on GSS3? White is then more brighter.
You should look at the clock in statusbar of the device, not video player... when he unlocked the phone it was 12:23PM, after he finished those speed and browsing tests it was past 1 PM.
How's the battery life on the HTC One compared to the Galaxy SIII
Does anybody know that battery percentage widget on the HTC?
Brandon, can you talk about the vibration of the htc one vs iphone?
what is the call quality like ?
Hi I have about 6 mates that have the htc one . Bu they say they wish they didnt get it , I have the galaxy s3 and they all want mine ??
How did you disable htc blink feed
but the important question is "can you play angry birds on the s3?"
@Tommy Zwar Is the s4 out yet?
Can still compare performances based on simple related ways such as opening 3rd party apps, camera, etc. Why not?
Great comparison. subscribed!
Dude why did you use fast boot, Fast boot is an option that ignores a lot of processes when booting so it boots much faster. Still the galaxy s3 did perform as good as the HTC and it's a year old.

The videos aren't all shot in one take. More than 5 minutes passed that dropped the battery 8%.
Being brutally honest, my S3 is starting to fail on me. Anybody have any ideas how good the 2300 mAh battery will hold up on the One?
Another thing, the S3 being only a sec or two slower the the One just shows that the S3 isn't a phone to throw away yet. I want to see the HTC One X vs HTC One, let's see what HTC has done with the software.

Still with the three button menu at the bottom. Why htc? Why??!!!
HTC One & S4 are both great phones. Just comes down to your personal liking to build, battery, and storage addition.
I dont understand people's fixation with the s3 feeling 'cheap'. I've had mine for over a year and not once has the feel of it bothered me. It doesnt feel cheap, it feels like a brilliant piece of software which I find close to faultless
just preordered the S4..can't wait....
They have also done a comparison between the HTC One and the S4.
U knw.. the button placement on the htc one can prevent accidental presses.. I do tht alot on the sgs3 while watching a vid. Or something...
Am I the only one that notices that the HTC Battery Life keeps jumping. It moved down to 80 then jumped up to 84?
You seem partial to the Samsung product. When the Samsung does something well you use the word definetly. When the HTC does well you use the word slightly. Just a thought.
How does this make sense? The s3 was never meant to go up against the htc one... The same way the iPhone 4S was never really meant to go up against the gs3. Make another comparison when you get the s4.
No camera comparison?
no replaceable battery, no sd slot...Galaxy S3 wins. Next! :)
did you realised that it wasn't 10 mins but roughtly 40 mins. check the time on the phones: from 12:23 to 1:01 went from 88% to 80% so basically 8% for 38 mins. do that with the galaxy s3
He said in the video he said that it was the quad core international version, they're both the international versions. =)
cause everyone else and there grandmother does that... what if someone had an s3 and was considering going to the htc one instead of an s4?
i hope that htc will make the nexus 5 with boom sound speakers,13mp ultrapixel camera,a gorgeous design with premium materials,on screen buttons
,removable battery, expandable storage and also a super amoled display if possible

Sense 5 looks so sleek. im so sold with HTC One but the no MicroSD card is kinda down. :(
Around 1:45 you said HTC one had 4 Megapixels. Its 4 UltraPixels.
Any one notice that when he hit browser he hit the htc one first ?
Some very choppy editing in this video. No need to rush such an important comparison.
This is the HTC One.
It's the newest HTC smartphone of 2013.
the HTC One X (+), One S, One V etc... are the smartphone series of 2012.

You can put on soft-keys for the HTC one, and disable the hardware keys, you just need root...
Not the smartest idea comparing the 2013 One with the 2012 S3, why not just wait to get the S4 and do a legitimate comparison?
Don't talk down on the 4mp camera, it's amazing, htc have stepped up with the camera using a ultra pixel camera which is perfect
06:45 That lag on the S3 when you press the home screen button. *sigh* I've got an S3 and it really does get tiresome. It's not just the home screen button, the touch screen too feels alot less responsive than my old HTC Desire HD.

Always wanted phone that has design and materials like iPhone and OS - Android. HTC One is that phone. HTC, you're the best!
Thanks, I guess that there is no new HTC One in Poland right now ;//
why everyone bothering the plastic on the samsung handsets ? probably plastic makes it more affordable as its price lowers , if it used metal and glass it would be more expensive , so i think samsung doing some social service and with all the best features and engineering
brett or brad, whtever your name is, i fuckin' love your Comparisons and you're awesome
SGS4 = new SW features
HTC1 = boom sound
SXZ = water and dust proof HW
Each of these flagship devices has something new. The HTC1 appeals to me the most though.
There are HTC One X, One X+, etc. HTC One (only HTC One) is the newest HTC phone, it's HTC flagship for 2013
I think the better comparison should be made between ths HTC One and the S4. Flagship against flagship, yes?
It's not fair to compare the S3 with the One, the One isn't even officially for sale, wait for the S4 and do a proper review.
I'm currently a S3 owner and i don't agree with you at all! The One is made out of quality materials and it got stereo front facing speakers. Truly made for music, video and games.
Sgs 4 is made of Polycarbonate and i think it's more solid than any iPhone or HTC phones, and it looks cool too :)
The HTC One X and iPhone 5 were the S3's competition not the One (that's S4's job) but for a 2012 phone it held up really well.

why not the s3 still goes head to head with the one
Polycarbonate is still plastic anyway you look at it, it all goes down too if you want a premium feeling phone or a cheap plastic feel, I have had a GS3 and it certainly doesn't feel premium.
I would love to see 5,5 inch screen phone made by htc, that would be freaking epic and finally no plastic phablet anymore.
If S3 is faster, he says "only half a second faster"
If HTC One is faster, he says "Yep its faster."
Has dirty back peice on HTC, says "it does not show finger prints at all"
A weird smudge on S3 from sticker or something, says "finger prints everywhere" but I dont see it after he touches it with finger
I dont know about this review...
and wtf the htc logo in the middle, you will push it for week waiting for something to happen!
True, but you can't call it a standard megapixel. Seeing as it takes in about 300% more light than 'normal' megapixels.
Exactly!! a lot better...

Right, that is what I want to say, the one definitely kills the S3, that is the newest flagship smartphone of HTC. These two phones are not comparable
M just happy with ma s3
Geez... no using zoom in their gallery? I often zoom when viewing photos. Good luck zooming on 4MP photo.
