- It seems like ages ago that we reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S III, first in its international garb, then in its various U.S. carrier variants. Back then, we said we'd "confidently recommend the Galaxy S III to someone looking for the best smartphone experience possible," and our sentiments were, for the most part, echoed across the internet's various tech news outlets.
The public, it seemed, took the recommendation to heart: Samsung sold untold millions of Galaxy S III devices, furthering the legacy of what was already a legendary line of Android smartphones.
Today's nostalgia for 2012 is triggered not just by our damn fool sentimental hearts, but by the arrival of a strikingly similar device on the world stage: the Samsung Galaxy S 4, coming soon to a carrier store near you. The newest Galaxy looks a lot like its progenitor, but how does it stack up inside that curved casing? Does it have a reason to exist, or is this just another case of iPhone 4S disease? READ!! I strongly believe the best time to upgrade is every other model. for example. if you have the s1 then get the s3 and from the s3 then the s5,,,, not every year,, you wont be as impressed if you keep upgrading that fast.
Jesus Salazar i had the galaxy s4 which was a good phone until the display starting going bad with the burn-ins starting from the top of the display
it was to the point to where i either pay for a new display or pay as much for a newer phone
I loved my s3 but the s4 was the first phone I was just CRAZY about. That 1080p screen with what was some of the smallest bezels at the time,I was in love. That is till I switched it for a Note 3. God,back then getting new phones was EVERYTHING.

I happen to LOVE my S3...But, I WILL be getting the S4 Monday...& there is NO SHAME in that.. what can I say, I'm a samsung fan ;) Great review, this guy is always honest & usually spot on...thanks again!
Dude don't you think NOW is the wrong time to get an S4? I mean the S5 is just around the corner. Why don't you wait a couple of weeks, see what you might be missing and then make a decision?
I may have gone down that road, if for not the fact that I have been w/out a phone for about 2 months now, besides I bought the s3 "after" it had been out for a yr as well..so I'm not one of them guys who needs something that is only a week old. Besides, not all that interested in the S5 from what I've been reading so far..AND, this will probably be my LAST Samsung for I'll be going for something diff. all together next yr anyways. ;)

of course it does.I love the new s4 ,my friend has it and I have a s3.I like them both but the overall feeling of s4 is much smoother and really great.we are in a technological century and samsung is one of the most important companies that offer us high quality smartphones.
The S4 was a minor update to the S3, just like the S2 was to the S1. I'm here waiting to upgrade my S3 to the S5, which should be significantly better.
I'm still so happy with my Galaxy S3, that's why i won't change it until S5 or maybe S6 comes out
I got my S3 when it last year also. Been thinking bout upgrading to the 4, now I think I'm just gonna wait it out, and see what else is coming out regarding Android phones.

did anyone notice the white s3 is from verizon by the back cover plate but yet says its from sprint?
I got the S3 as it was the cheaper variant, and I dont regret it. Quad Core Exynos and 720p display are enough great for me and dont need more.
Finally switched from the galaxy captivate to the new S 4.
No complaints the new s4 is amazing in every way my only suggestion is to not use the ATT app for wifi connectability as it is unreliable & a battery drain. After you disable smart wifi you'll have better/faster & automatic connectivity results. Adjust your screen brightness for longest battery life, which is now easy w/ a flick of your finger. As always voice recognition could be better. no application or camera lags!
I can't wait for the international versions. I want to see how my int S3 stacks up versus the S4. And btw Samsung, where's my 4.2.2 Android? I want lockscreen widgets!!!!
I have the S3 and was gonna get the S4, but like you said theres not a huge difference between the two. I got a 3250mAh battery from ebay so my battery is larger than the S4's anyway. Camera I don't take many pics with so only real upgrade is the screen which I would love, but not for the huge upgrade fee.

Well, all i got from this vídeo was "don't buy the S4 because Samsung's have not added anything substancial to there new phone" .. if Samsung with there new phone didn't add nothing remarkable new to the S4, what the hell did Apple all over the years did to there iphone? every year it's the same thing all over again, at least Samsung is doing something about there new phone.. and by the way, the S4 is remarkable fast..
After the Kitkat update Im still loving the S3 and it has a way better speaker then the S5, Im using the S3 just for tethering from my HTC One M8 when Im bored.
Great review dude but don't use live wallpapers, they slow down the speed of any phone

Thanks for personal comparison, I still have the first galaxy s and was debating between the 3 or 4 to upgrade to. I think I might go with the 4 because of the upgraded system and graphics...hmm maybe not so much because of added apps.

After the major update of s4's (I9505) firmware i noticed it is alot smoother now and the camera improved.
Why isn't anyone talking about or reviewing the IR blaster. It supposedly replaces all of your home remote controls to TV and cable box yet nobody is talking about it??????
What clock and music widgets do you use on the GS4? Or are they part of the new TouchWiz?
A custom launcher only changes the home screens and the app drawer. Some things like the notification bar and settings are still ugly. But yes, flashing a custom rom would fix that.
ugh, im upgrading from my s3... the s3 days are long gone, its definitely slow by todays standards, the onboard 8gb is nothing these days, and there are no updates for it (I dont think) the lag is utterly depressing, its nice if youre upgrading from a MUCH older smartphone, but beyond that I dont see why someone would buy an s3 in 2015.
+guy I have omnia 2 now... looking at s3 because it is a recent phone software and still possesses fm radio. I'm sure if yuo had a brand new from freash s3 it'd run just as fast

for me i love the s3 international version because it has an stock FM radio..s4 and s5 no radio..
Arch Angel yeah and since that phone had a quad-core cpu
some games seem to unlock a higher end graphics quality which doesnt even work on any modern phones to this day

I bought an S3 about three weeks ago. The S3 has had serious reception issues on 4.1.2 beginning my first day. . My previous Moto Droid X had great reception in marginal areas. The S3 will stutter, drop calls and lose GPS. I know Motorola has the rep of superior radios, but the rest of the phone MAXX HD, (screen and speakers) don't compete well w/the S4, and doesn't have a removable battery. I'm hoping the S4 has improved it's reception in Marginal areas. HTC One is beautiful but iffy recept.

When you're using these devices for the 1st time after a reboot, some applications may lag at its initial opening until cache is stored. Then you're good. At 1st boot l it will take longer for everything to settle in before it smooths out. The quad core will handle overall performance a little better but both of these devices have 10billion functions & capabilities most phones don't have, but the lag you see is only when a program is being opened for the 1st time & the only time you'll see it.
Why'd they drop the Roman numerals? Just slapping a 4 on the back is really underwhelming. But these are my problems.
Hey, as I know, Galaxy S3 is quad-core everywhere.
And the new one is octa-core in Korea.

Does the S4 have curved glass on the edges like the S3? One of my biggest pet peaves about the S3 was that the screen protectors couldn't go to the edge of the device.

I still find myself recommending an s3 to friends, family and associates, it costs around £100 from eBay in the uk, performs well and you can easily find replacements batteries and cases and such.
+DnBGenie Just throw CM13 on it, too. Keeps pace with brand new devices.

timrock11 The s3 is a much more powerful device, and CM13 on it runs amazingly. The GS3 and GS2 are very, very different.
wouldnt say so imo. iphone 5 eats the s3. s3 over time started to lag a lot
timrock11 If you use the stock, shit Samsung firmware. But you can put other, better versions of Android on it (LIKE CM13) and they improve battery and performance.
I don't know why all of you guys are saying that s3 is better. How is it better in ANY way? s4 has a greater resolution screen supporting a full hd 1080p screen where as the s3 only has 720p. sure the s4 expensive but. saying that the s3 is better is totally outrageous

S4 has a lot of PPI...but either way the pentile matrix ruins it. If you watch close you can still see the pixels. My Nexus 4 doesn't have such problems :)

If I had an S3 will not buy the S IV, but if I had an S II will not buy the S 3 either and would buy the S IV with no doubt.

could somebody or specially pocketnow help me please? I'm stuck between the choice between the galaxy s3 LTE, the galaxy s4 and the Nexus 5. I love all three of them. I like the interface of the s4 and s3 very much and I also like the features like: Tap to top, air view, smart stay, ... etc, but the nexus 5 has the more futuristic processor. In my country i can get samsung galaxy s3 LTE for 350 euros, the GS4 for around 450 euros and the nexus 5 for 400 euros. What do you guys recommend? Thanks.
I like some of the features of my S3 like smart stay and tap to top. But if you can live without those....Id go with the Nexus 5. Great Value. If money isnt a problem go with S4
sad that the s4 active has an 8mp camera as opposed to the regular 13mp on the non-active one. but idk if being it water proof and scratch proof was a better deal
I turned off LTE and locked my phone into CDMA (auto PRL) and most of my reception issues, for voice, have been eliminated.
I am a s3 user and i think it would be worth the wait to update the software instead of upgrading to the s4

Apart from terrible battery life on my S4 (half a days moderate use before recharging) i like the phone. But hanging out for note 3. The air gestures on the S4 are mostly silly gimmicks - especially the eye tracking feature. I'm happy enough, it's not what i would call a great phone, hoping the note 3 will be ))

well I was having a galaxy s3 aftere 2 month is getting so slow I have formated 4 times just to get fast but it didn't work so I sell it and I bought iphone 5s
The s4 isn't like going from the s2 to the s3! I won't ditch my s3 for the s4 only to have the newest version! I have to look at the note 3 or equivalent! I really just want a much bigger screen because of the way that use my device!

The galaxi s4 has two optinal. the first one is the snapdragon 1.9Quad core. The secand one is 1.6quad core. Is theres any diffrent that affects the performance? Btw thx for the video!

LTE compatibility was the driving force behind this, IIRC. ^MF
I own one and its battery life is only compareable to the GNote 2 and the motorola RAZR series. And even though I use a thickass otterbox on mine, it heats up less than an iphone.

Because the software and hardware aren't made for each other though samsung and every company tries to tell you that, I don't like apple but they fixed that issue. That why I suggest pure google.

and it's the best phone I've ever seen .. after the note 3... but it sometimes sucks
Let me root your S3 & put a ROM like Goodness on it or CM10 & give it back to you. No lag, no bloatware, no carrier IQ, spyware, free wireless tethering etc... Tons of support for them also. Takes very little time & requires minimal thinking which, contrary to popular belief, is actual healthy for you. Thinking's like food for your brain & shouldn't be seen as a burden. In 15min I'd have your S3 setup perfectly to your liking. If you're an iPhone lover MIUI is similar w/10x the features.
Do anyone know when next next Galaxy cell phone come out again?
