I recall some old forum threads where Jack mentioned that he had a pre-emptive solution for the synchro sleeves. It sounded like he installed some sort of internal stopper inside the valve body, which then reduced the load on the sleeve stopper, and that this could be done before it all goes south
Thanks so much Kevin !! I really got lucky with the Jack interview. Hoping I can get some additional experts in my vid's to share some additional knowledge !!
Just wanted to point out that the pictures for the synchro sleeves and the splines on the shaft for the C clip are in the wrong segments they are switched.
I have a 2014 R35 which already has a DBA but I've been wanting to pick up a used cba which I would like to build and keep as spare, but I do see that it costs around $1350 extra to convert to a DBA, my plan is to do the basic 1st gear upgrade, clutches and baskets
Glad to hear it!. Thanks for the comment, and thanks so much for watching !! I have a new one dropping on Friday. It's going to be awesome. I'm also going to be interviewing a tuner !!
Great video. Thanks. I am too a little confused when Jack started jumping around talking about the synchro sleeves, ETS gear and then the clips. So is he saying for the CBA, you should definitely update the clips to prolong the life of the trans? Or should you also change the synchro sleeves and ETS gear? I guess the answer is "yes change all of them" but just want to clarify when he started talking about the failure that would render the trans useless (@10:05), is his talking just about the TSB clips or the clips at the ETS gear?
Yeah, it's a little bit confusing and i'm not a gear head. But he is definitely not talking about the typical TSB clips replacement. It's the clips for the ETS gear. Hope this helps. You could also give Jacks Transmissions a call to get clarification.
At the 10min mark he’s talking about the cir clip that holds the ets drive gear on the end of the output shaft. Like he said if you ever have the front cover off the trans that clip is right there in your face and might as well upgrade it. My advice is change over everything in a cba trans to dba except the synchro sleeves, the labor required for that just doesn’t justify it on its own. Save that for if your building a trans with an entire new gearset. (Hence why cba cores are usually 1200-1500$ more to build than a dba core)
@@The.Garage.Studio I agree. It's fantastic. So much knowledge in this man. Question, is there any videos where he discusses the limits of power or torque on a standard gearbox of what needs to be done to keep them alive when tuned and roughly how much
Jack sort or talks about clip/spline in the same sentence. So I think it's the same thing. I would however reach out to Jack directly. You can email him at: shop@jackstransmissions.com
Ive had my CBA for a couple years now, no issues. The transmission does some weird things sometimes... but I think its mostly computer issue and not mechanical.
@Waynethegunner hi, yeah. Cobb tune 93 Oct, + big SF intake, mid pipe, cat back exhaust, high flow pumps. Will be installing new injectors and do one more tune to tide it all in nicely. Only 600 hp max. Maybe stay below 590. I don't want to over do it. I'm all about balance. Car has been amazing, hasn't given me any issues. Best car I've ever had. Also the launch control is disable. I'm still able to do 11.4 in the 1/4. With crappy non sticky tires!
@@AlexandersArchwaysif you don’t mind me asking, how many miles on yours. I’m seeing some at many different mileage and different prices. Also just noticed Goku in your avatar. Nice!
@Waynethegunner haha thank you, DBZ fan for life! Mine has 84k kms. So miles like 52k miles. I dunno if that's low in your area or high. I mean for a 2010 car. I find it low milage in my opinion .
Anytime you "shock" the drive trane. Meaning a violent launch, or when shifting gears, and it's violent (i.,e lots of wheelspin). I know we like wheelspin, but with AWD cars, that should not be the goal if you want longevity.

You bet!! So much more content to create on this beast. I'm hoping to get a tuner.. to do a a "behind the scenes" tuning for a GT-R.. That would be cool !!
So grateful I live 40 minutes from his shop. Gonna make getting my trans bulletproofed that much easier. 🤘
Sweet !!
CBA 2008-2011
DBA 2012-2016
EBA 2017-2020
2020 to now is technically EBA
Some purists disagree with the EBA term. Personally, I like it. Thanks for commenting.

Thank for watching and the compliment. Having Jack share his knowledge makes it really easy !
Great informative video. I just picked up a spare CBA trans and likely get few things done.
Nice !! Jack's the man !! Good idea to have a spare for sure!! That's awesome !!

Hi, do you have any info on how the 2 filters that go in the transmission? Where to buy them and the exact model#? Thanks

Thanks so much for watching. A couple more from Jack.. Then off to do a Bell Housing video and then maybe a behind the scenes with a Tuner.
What clip is he talking about 9:58 ? Anyone got any relevant links where I can look more into that specific clip etc.
