I'm so envious of his care free approach to EVERYTHING. Talking to strangers, doing big tricks in front of people, skating through New York traffic. RESPECT
Jakob Fuchs Laird I agree with that. But The Gonz has called skating a sport multiple times on various interviews... That's interesting. Mike V on the other hand is pretty anti on the sport label.
It's 2021 going to be 2022 in a few days and this guy is now my new favorite skater. Damn I see why everyone loves this guy. sick style, fearless, polite etc.
you skate - it's just been a while. i've been on my board a lot lately and loving it. a little expectation management is required but the fun is out there waiting for us, always!
Random ass internet opinion. Start back up. Mark’s UA-cam channel inspired me to get back after it. Started just doing nose picks and went from there. I might even start jumping rope!
Dude I love how he just 50-50's down that long ledge and people keep walking so casually... the one dude just like... tiny steps out of the way and keeps going
fuck... I've never really taken in Gonz footage before... but I feel like my whole relationship with skateboarding is summed up in this video. this is it.
The thing about Gonz is that nowadays people watch him when he shows up in other videos like he does in some FA, Jenkem and so on. But because he just cruises around and is being weird and not really doing much skating in modern videos, the younger generation don't even realise, just how good he really was. He was a creative beast. Never forget
That shit is tight, Gonz is one of the skaters I've always looked up to since back in the day, he paved the way and helped define the foundations of modern street skating. So much respect
Mark's street skating could have possibly been the original inspiration for "Zoo York".. He's got the funnest style and one of my main heroes thought I get nervous for him going in and out of all those peeps on the streets. So rad though and almost always in control and then controls they out of control. We Skateboarders are lucky. I can't think of too many scenes that have such dynamic personalities and approach to life.
Gonz's attitude and abilities allowed him to show us all our own possibilities and those of the concrete, brick, asphalt and steel around us. It was important to me, because we didn't have parks, most pools were vinyl lined, and there was only one backyard ramp in the area, and that was in an adjacent smaller city. We skated street. Street. We needed to see someone doing what we did. Gonz...
Gonz inspires me so much its un describable, its incredible how he balances between creativity and skill, fun, and even social aspects his spots................................. most of all hes having fun it so awesome, this really separate him into a legend category all its own, exery time I hear a skateboard in nyc I check to see its mark, but you can usually tell. Great Classics jason best one yet!
Gonz was sick. I love the Vision Streetwear black suede kicks. And those spots were straight out of Thrasher. A kid living in the hills of NC and many more like him learned to skate watching these videos.
This was truly a bad ass era!!! OC Ca. I had a mark g board among many. You left the house w $5 bux , u pigged out at taco bell ..and skated all day long !
I remember being mesmerized by that kickflip hippie jump between the railing the first time I watched this on VHS back in the day. Thanks for putting this video on here, it brings back some good memories!
Saw the Gansz at a skate show in Hawaii in 1989, doing a rail slide on his board upside down during the practice sessions. Realized he looked at everything differently and was super inspired!
This was the real skating I grew up with... when we skated for fun, not to try and land tricks for instagram/youtube/etc because we wanted everyone else to see what we could do
I miss the early 90s the smell of the coffee at the Cafe we would hang out at the taste of beer when you're young, how easy you rebound from a gnarly slam.. watching these videos brings me back and I can smell the coffee
If you are kid and watching this and don’t know who this guy is. What you are watching is pure style! Try and replicate that. And if you think doing a kick flip every other trick is all there is watch this over and over again.
1:35 ironic how so many people whose likely only achievement in life is to be slightly more angry, ignorant and hysterical than average should be immortalized by their cameos in classic skateboard videos
I totally stand corrected , for some reason I thought that line was regular, knowing well that Gonz is Goffy. I guess I'm not used to seeing Gonz get in many switch lines with switch 360 flips, although not surprised since he skates anything and everything. 100% backing the 90s EMB Steez Mongo push, quick hop to switch.
Man, I've watched a Gonz interview a long time ago and remember he said "I never thought about stances, I just skated", and you know, I'm not surprised!
FUCK! This IS skateboarding. The world as a gigantic set of amazing possibilities. Just the fucking relentless freedom of it. Very few things in the world combine imagination and freedom so well.
I never even saw Gonz footage back in the day, but I was doing the same rolling down the windows hand motions while pushing, and no comply and flippity bonking parking blocks. I finally feel like I belong lol.
I'm so envious of his care free approach to EVERYTHING. Talking to strangers, doing big tricks in front of people, skating through New York traffic.
RESPECT
He is fully himself long live the gonz
You have to live for you and not for other peoples look on you
Tbh he seems slightly autistic - probably why he was such a creative genius in street skating and why he does his own thing
i am envious of your name
all hail mercyful fate
my type of guy
the Gonz is the coolest dude on the planet everyone loves the Gonz. He is skateboarding
Nope....Mullen is the MAN and Skateboarding. He single-handedly invented Street skating and the modern skateboard.
RED S7VN I prefer mark
Yup
Jay Adams is skateboarding
Sam Stoner
Where?
Gonz is one of the reasons why I consider skating more of an art form than a sport.
Totally agree, everytime i watch him its incredible and puts me in a weird cool mood.
it's a beauty itself
Him and Mullen had beautifully creative minds, they made it art. And others too obviously.
Mullen is a dork.
Jakob Fuchs Laird I agree with that. But The Gonz has called skating a sport multiple times on various interviews... That's interesting. Mike V on the other hand is pretty anti on the sport label.
They say that kid is still waiting for his 2 bucks.
Nailed it
Hahaha
Hey, you got two bucks lol
Reminds me of that scene from megas XLR, "where's my 2 bucks"
It's 2021 going to be 2022 in a few days and this guy is now my new favorite skater. Damn I see why everyone loves this guy. sick style, fearless, polite etc.
Damn. I tought I knew Gonz, but I didn´t. Guy is very talented. Much more than I ever tought. Much more respect now.
He exactly embodies all of the reasons why I started skating, loved skating, and still love skating, despite the fact that I don't skate anymore.
You can always take it up again. Just need to know your limits if you are old like me. I'm going on 50 and started up again earlier this year.
I started skating again after a 10 year hiatus. I recommend it
you skate - it's just been a while. i've been on my board a lot lately and loving it. a little expectation management is required but the fun is out there waiting for us, always!
Random ass internet opinion. Start back up. Mark’s UA-cam channel inspired me to get back after it. Started just doing nose picks and went from there. I might even start jumping rope!
The fact that he’s Mexican made me push to go harder skating.
I immigrated from Mexico and needed strong roll models... he is one.
Yeah since he's Irish too, it inspired me to be a better person.
Yeah, since his name's Mark it inspired me to buy a bunch of markers.
8:13 - i DARE you to try this. It isn't possible, not at this speed and with such ease. Fuck Mark....
+strobo lazer wow I just realized that was backside . shhhittt so gnarly
LOVE Mark.
Wow never get tired of watching his footage. It's amazing to still see footage of him to this day!
Dude I love how he just 50-50's down that long ledge and people keep walking so casually... the one dude just like... tiny steps out of the way and keeps going
And he hit the guy on the bike and he shook his hand... And he hit that old karen with his board... Its like when you hit ppl in EA Skate
Don't mind Mark just 5050ing a 40 foot ledge in the winter when it's prob 28 degrees out. LMAO!
How can someone thumb down this video? Mark Gonzales is the man! My first two skateboards were Mark Gonzales decks. Love this.
"I'll give you $2 if you get it down" kid gets it down ..Gonz ask for $2 from the camera man ahhahahahahaha
fuck... I've never really taken in Gonz footage before... but I feel like my whole relationship with skateboarding is summed up in this video. this is it.
Nathan Bonifacio ... at least everything in the first half... I don't understand anything after "'bout to 'tack this double set, YO!"
Nathan Bonifacio you ever early grab a double that big? lol shits not easy
Gonz is such a fucking legend
The thing about Gonz is that nowadays people watch him when he shows up in other videos like he does in some FA, Jenkem and so on. But because he just cruises around and is being weird and not really doing much skating in modern videos, the younger generation don't even realise, just how good he really was.
He was a creative beast. Never forget
Adam reread the comment and see if I said he didn’t bud
Might not look impressive to today's kids, but you have to remember he was doing it 30 YEARS before your favorite modern skater.
This is still impressive
Gonz is #1. The only other skater that brings this much insane energy to the street is Milton Martinez.
@@joeyoung1498 fr
@@benjaminlinietsky731 of course It is
this is still extremely impressive
The Gonz skating it's like a jazz man playing in a jam session... Genial improvisation and enjoyment
That shit is tight, Gonz is one of the skaters I've always looked up to since back in the day, he paved the way and helped define the foundations of modern street skating. So much respect
Jason Jessee introduces a three part CLASSICS featuring the Gonz.
Loved it. JB
ThrasherMagazine he sounds wasted haha
+yukon boxer not familiar with JJ I see.
RAD RAD RAD... and DOPE.. @seamo_one
...drunk
Love watching this over and over
Gonz is so funny when he gets pissed because he's such a nice guy even his freak outs are nice.
Truly classic.
#greatness
The part at 10:24 is one of the sickest things I've seen. It's not super complicated but flows so nicely and sets him back up to his normal stance
AwesomeBill FromDawsomeville dude the shit this mn thought of.. he was so fuckin sick got damn may the Gonz live forever
10:00 that casper stall revert has so much steez...
Favorite skater of all time, grew up skating Gonz’ boards. Dude Is so rad. Nobody was doing stuff like that back then.
“You got two bucks?”
Pure Legend! Much love Gonz! Thank you for setting the bar so high!
Most of his shit still hold up for today's tricks, unreal man.
Gonz's attitude and abilities allowed him to show us all our own possibilities and those of the concrete, brick, asphalt and steel around us. Good shit never gets dated... respect to the Gonz!
It's hard for me to comprehend that this man had to lear how to ollie at some point.
whenever i can't land or learn a trick i just think about this
JJJ JHONSON FILEBOXNIGGA What don't you get?
He and Natas also took Rodneys kickflip and took it to the streets
Gonz ollied out the womb
He add to lear all of his tricks at some point
I remember buying all these an rewatching his parts over and over gonz is my hero
Never tired of watchin' Gonz!
His style is amazing
Much love Gonz.. been skating for about 14 years today. You inspired me originally as a kid. Mad respect dude
It doesnt get more classic than this! Great video!
Still freakin’ love this. Just a total legend and pioneer of the ride
EPIC classic! thanks for choosing these!
Gonz was sick. I love the Vision Streetwear black suede kicks. And those spots were straight out of Thrasher. A kid living in the hills of NC and many more like him learned to skate watching these videos.
Ageless as I keep coming back to watch it. The Gonz
The narrator is hammered
2:14 is literally the best thing ive seen in skateboarding
Drew V lol how come
the little ollie
This was truly a bad ass era!!! OC Ca. I had a mark g board among many. You left the house w $5 bux , u pigged out at taco bell ..and skated all day long !

I'm still mesmerized by it. Lance Mountain does one over a pool ladder in Extremely Sorry that's pretty great, he we pushing 50 when he did it.
It's so awesome no one bites his style, no flick nessecary, no dumb chilling tre flips. It's so refreshing to see a dude with a natural style.
I know, his kickflips are look so good.
3:28 when the magic happened and he became the Gonz we know and love
The Gonz, Tom Penny, Terry Kennedy, Daewon, all guys who made me love skateboarding.
The Classics,Mark Gonz,Amazing stuff to watch
Mark's lines are otherworldly smooth.
The Best of the Thrasher Classics-i think.-)
Saw the Gansz at a skate show in Hawaii in 1989, doing a rail slide on his board upside down during the practice sessions. Realized he looked at everything differently and was super inspired!
This was the real skating I grew up with... when we skated for fun, not to try and land tricks for instagram/youtube/etc because we wanted everyone else to see what we could do
Instagram and YT is making skateboarding, blading, every thing feel cheap
And he still makes perfect sense. And he's my favorite Skater. Andy
Best classic ever! Gotta love the gonz.
hell yeah...my first (quality) board : ~'87 vision GONZ, the dayglo 'portrait', on black
shaft9000 Same here.
Always fun to watch 🛹 He makes me laugh 🤣. One of the greatest!
That was a treat! I love the trick when he went over the bar and his board went under the bar!!! WTF 😁🔥🔥
I miss the early 90s the smell of the coffee at the Cafe we would hang out at the taste of beer when you're young, how easy you rebound from a gnarly slam.. watching these videos brings me back and I can smell the coffee
"I do the tricks, not you!" 😂👟
My first real board was a Vision Gonz, with Tracker trucks and OJ wheels, loved Gonz then and still do.
OG
original gonzo
I remember watching this when i was 15.. now im 22, nuts, and i still love skateboarding
If you are kid and watching this and don’t know who this guy is. What you are watching is pure style! Try and replicate that. And if you think doing a kick flip every other trick is all there is watch this over and over again.
The way The Gonz can ride up walls and over things is amazing!!!!
Four years later and it’s still an amazing video
Mark was so ahead of his time!
Always loved his board, had good pop! Gonz ahead of his time for sure!
1:35 ironic how so many people whose likely only achievement in life is to be slightly more angry, ignorant and hysterical than average should be immortalized by their cameos in classic skateboard videos
@@DrVuilnisbak WTF? Gonz' board went no where near that hag
that hag is probably already dead who cares
That rail jump at the end of his Real to Reel part was so sick I remember when that video came out loved it.
This man interacts with absolutely everything in his environment. He is the street.
Was there ever any-one like Gonz?True original. And think if it wasn't for skate boarding we would never of know him.
One of my favorite oldschool skaters.
I’m grateful for this guy.
I totally stand corrected , for some reason I thought that line was regular, knowing well that Gonz is Goffy. Gonz really brings out the skater in you.
The Name Of This Poem
That old lady at the beginning 😂😂
Love the voice… something out of a movie part
So much fun to watch.
beautiful and timeless
Gonz was the first skate everything.
U forgot bout tommy guerro
montyplaid I think that OP’s comment refers to how gonz would skate street AND vert. TG was known as a street skater.
Why dislike this? Amazing talent on display. Bit harder than thumb gently touching a screen.
The Gonz! Gonna attack this double set yo!
Holy fuck! Its been a year!!!
That’s my favourite part! I crack up laughing every time I see it
@@oopsydaizi3s824 Hell Yes!!! 🤘👽
made my day... fuck working going to skate now!!
Gonzales is a total stud. I love his style, no fear whatsoever, just balls out, no hesitation, sick shit all day long.
His nickname should have been Man of Steel. The guy takes the narliest slams I've ever seen and just keeps on going, still to this day.
01:35 That granny is long gone, but the behavior still remains.
Don't ever stop skateboarding.
Lmao rip granny
I never even saw Gonz footage back in the day, but I was doing the same rolling down the windows hand motions while pushing, and no comply and flippity bonking parking blocks. I finally feel like I belong lol.
Jessee and Gonz... Two of the best.
I didn't understand this dude when I was a kid. I get it now. Unbelievable.
Yeah that kid was in, sane! And fun to watch. Classic!!
This is one of yhe bestest videos ever!
I only watched this 45 times.
Gonz is the best kept secret servitude of skateboarding. First electron devoted pioneers
Gonz is one of if not the best street skater, period
The kookiest character, but it's exactly that playful simplicity that is the true genius of "The Gonz"
Life imitating art, imitating life.
Everyone has had a vintage documentary , Gator, Hosoi , Natas , Cab , but there was not one done on the great Gonz . whats up with that ?
