The break up that created one of the greatest songs ever written.
More like one of the greatest albums ever written.
@@ottomatic3123 agreed. ☺👍
Je n'ai pas oublié le concert au Palais des Sports de Paris ( 1980.)

They were so coked up in this collaboration. Stevie said she always had it on her. The emotions are so raw here. Two people that loved each other but couldn’t make it work.

THE greatest song of all time...come at me.
A truly LIVE video performance. Takes guts to do that. You can also sense the visceral pain in Stevie and Lindsey here. So real. Stevies's eyes scream agony.
How could anyone in their right mind break up with Stevie?? Gorgeous!!
Without Stevie Nicks there is no Fleetwood Mac (post Peter Green era).
She broke up with him. He was controlling, jealous etc so she had to get away and he couldn't stand it.
@@barbarao.5778 What was she doing with a guy like that:
Lindsey thought it would be selling out for him to work at a restaurant like that, so I did.
~Stevie Nicks, on why she worked as a waitress at Bob's Big Boy after moving in with Lindsey in 1970, Harpers Bazaar, 1997
some of Mick's best drumming. awesome.
Most of the songs on Rumours is Stevie and Lindsey sniping at each other and that's what makes it brilliant. Kudos to them for keeping the band together under all that pressure and creating brilliant tunes.
the band literally stayed together because none of them were ever in the same room at the same time, the band Loathed each other
@@insomniacbritgaming1632 Everyone was breaking up then, it wasn't just Stevie and Lindsey but also Christine and John and even Mick Fleetwood was separated if I remember right. That said Stevie and Lindsey's songs AT each other were classics.
@@jchan2088 Can't have been nice singing his "F**k off" lyrics all the time, especially after it became a hit.
Right? singing "And if you dont love me now you will never love me again" OMG got me through so much sh*tz
@@jchan2088 Extract from Rolling Stone (from Wikipedia) "Nicks later explained her feelings about the line: "I very much resented him telling the world that 'packing up, shacking up' with different men was all I wanted to do, he knew it wasn't true. It was just an angry thing that he said. Every time those words would come onstage, I wanted to go over and kill him. He knew it, so he really pushed my buttons through that. It was like, 'I'll make you suffer for leaving me.' And I did."
The part I love the most about this video is at 2:26. Stevie looks at Lindsey for the 100th time, but then she makes a turn and you actually see her smiling and enjoying the moment
I think she's actually hinting at Christine to mess up the song together. She smiles, sings the next line, nods to Christine and then they sing wrong together, so Lindsey sticks out alone. Looks like she might be pretty happy about that at 2:45. But oc this might also just be edited like that
@@mrawesam1190 I think your reading too much into the hate here. She looks like shes about to cry early in her closeup shots. As tumultuous as this was for them, I think there was genuine care in the relationship. It didnt turn into straight hate.
1:20 she’s holding back tears. I watched an interview where she said it was a love song he wrote for her then turned to a breakup song
@@mrawesam1190 That actually made sense 😂😂

How this band ever held it together is nothing short of a miracle, they thrived on conflict imo.
Exactly, Rumours and Tusk were full of passion - I don’t know if that was the case with mirage
What? They tossed Lindsey Buckingham.
@@teresaglover3615 yeah, like 3 years ago, he did not want to do the rehearsals for their upcoming tour so he got the chop.
The music held them together as a group - the various conflicts inspired their creativity and solidified their "group relationship". Angst was their glue, and also their success.
@@georgebarnes8163 Hes getting old. And with such a characteristic high vocal range I'm sure it was taxing. And his guitar style, sans pick, has to be harsh as well. He probably gets beat up more through performing than anyone else.
So much raw emotion in this music video, having only recently discovered the story behind the song, you can really see the lyrics play out on stage in front of you, the way he doesn't look at her once through out, and the way she keeps looking at and searching for him, the melancholic stares and sadness in her eyes when she sings "you can go your own way, you can call it another lonely day" knowing she and him/they're singing about her.
Stevie's dazed, death gaze at the beginning. She looks high and pissed off.
Yes!!
@charleneking7262 She was high and pissed. She spoke about it. She said when her eyes were watery like they are in the video, she was high on Coke. She kept a small bottle of it in her boot at all times.
She said in an interview that she wanted to stab him every time he sang that song. It was about her.
Stevie always looked like that. She was high most of the time.
Mick's mastery of offsetting the beat and driving the bus in this track is first in class.
RIP Christine McVie. One of my favorite bands as a teen in 70s. The music always takes me back to happy times & still sounds as good now as it did then. Thank you.

Christine was backup in this song. She's barely audible, if at all.
Lindsey Buckingham sings this song...
I liked Christine the best when she was singing background and playing the Hammond and Fender. I had a creep crush on her. I loved when she tuned her instruments on demos and live shows. It sounded symphonic.

Heartbroken over how their relationship turned out. They were inseparable and knew each other since they were young and my gosh you can feel their chemistry and the intensity through all their performances. The way Stevie looks at Lindsey breaks my heart. Her eyes looks so teary imma go cry.....
Stevie's eyes say damn this song hurts.
Singing back up vocals on your ex’s break up song. Now that’s Rock!
🤣 And the new boyfriend playing the Drums ...... Rock 🎸
It's a shame after all these years, Stevie is still such a spoiled brat. She got him ousted from the band, like aren't 72 years old, that's someone's career just because he smirked cause she wouldn't shut up, at an awards ceremony. Lot of them are still acting like they are in HS.
@8A6K2A The Hart Sisters have amazing voices, but make no mistake, they wanted to be Stevie Nicks. Everyone wanted to her or be with her. No one will ever have her presence, her aura. Even artists now, that weren’t alive when Rumors came out are still in awe of her.
It must have been hard doing that song together when pain are there for both of them.. but Show must. Go on ..its my fave song from the band...
You can see the pain in their eyes as they sing here
Lindsay rocking that hair! Killing it on the vocals, right next to his ex. Stevie looking good as hell and they both hated each other right here. Singing on each others songs to one another. Toxic before toxic was used to describe relationships.

I love the way Stevie looks at Lindsey in this video. There's so much going on behind those eyes.
The same thing I noticed!
Yeah lol she had to sing the song about her packing up and shacking up, she looks angry and then sad. Rumours had to be hard on all of them
Well... it was her own stupid fault, wasn't it? ... and he didn't look back once...
@@luis1coelho - Playing the blame game for the failure of the relationship wasn't the point of my comment. The point was how the emotions behind the song were reflected right there on the stage by the look in Stevie's eyes.
and the fact that lindsay doesn’t look at her once
And 45 years later that resentment, love, anger, admiration, intensity, affection and rage still burns as bright between them both!
Aye it does! Thinking that`s what gave Lindsey the heart problem.

He has children now, they will always come first.
But I did see an interview where Stevie said something to the effect that one day his ‘beautiful children would one day leave home’. I thought she still held a torch for him.
Cocaine, sex and 70s Rock is a dangerous combination. Still gets me that the one song you’ll commonly hear from FM on radio or tv is the positive, catchy tune that’s really a big “F you” from Lindsey to Stevie. That’s how you know the music’s good when it has genuine meaning behind it and it can apply to any similar situation or time people go through.
I love how Stevie is basically crying and Mick is just vibing in the back with his drums. That is why I like Mick.

Lindsey Buckingham sings circles around the rest of this group.
She had very distinctive voice that people like, but fundamentally Lindsey was the better singer
The arrangements; the vocals; the lyrics; the guitars, drums and Vibraphone; the performers. This is why it was a Diamond- over 12 million albums sold. 47 YEARS LATER, ONE OF THE BEST EVER- Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours". I was 17 when it came out, and I still love it in 2024! A top ten of MUST HAVE ALBUMS,along with Steely Dan's "Aja". Among 2 of the best ever recorded, and of 1977. And The Eagles "Hotel California".
I'm pretty sure Lindsey Buckingham wrote this about his breakup with Stevie Nicks. It must have been odd standing next to the person you are directing very emotionally charged lyrics at and singing in harmony with them! I've been revisiting Fleetwood Mac songs with the passing of Christine McVie. RIP😥
Stevie's and Christine's contributions to the band were crucial, what an amazing keyboard player Christine is, i would consider her to be the best one in rock!!!
@Malcolm Driver NO ONE and NOBODY can replace Stevie Nicks, this is like saying that "someone somewhere could've replaced Paul McCartney" which is a hugely stupid thing to say, her solo career alone, well, one of her albums alone says all you need to know, and again, her contributions along with Christine's were the real deal! Your little rank is just your opinion!
@Malcolm Driver I'm talking about level of importance in a band, that's why i compared with Paul, not about producing, which she indeed produced some stuff and wrote her own songs, she just couldn't play an instrument, later on she got a piano, also, "Dreams" was their number 1 hit at billboard, her solo career shows everything! You don't seem to be a FM fan to say that she didn't write her songs, so i'll just leave you thinking that someone as important as Stevie Nicks could be "replaced".
@Malcolm Driver Yes, i know all of this, but still the initial idea came from Stevie, it started with her not Lindsey, not Christine, but Stevie! She became the frontwoman who was known as the face of the band, even though i disagree with that statement, still, she was the one who opened the door for them becoming famous everywhere. Diminishing her amazing work doesn't make him any better, that's exactly why i said good stuff about her in my initial comment, because of the haters in the other comments, they can't stand to see someone saying nice things about her, but they're just a bunch of bitter people with the stupid "my guitar hero" speech, always diminishing what a woman does, for obvious reasons.
@Malcolm Driver Like i said, i only talk about how wonderful Stevie is, because of the haters in the comments, they get really hurt if you say something nice about the woman, or women in general, i'm not saying it's you specifically, all of them are irreplaceabe, i only said it's absolutely stupid to say that someone could replace Stevie Nicks, i don't know if you know this but Lindsey didn't even wanted to join FM, because he thought that he and Stevie would become a successful duo with the evolution of the Buckingham/Nicks project, it was actually Stevie who convinced him to join the band, she was tired of working constantly and supporting them both, so he would become "one of the best guitarists ever born" as he stayed in the house practicing while she was putting food on the table, also, it was Christine who decided that Stevie was a good fit for Fleetwood Mac, not Lindsey. Maybe in the beginning, if they replaced John we wouldn've missed him, but now that he's with them since the very beginning, i'd say no, we can't replace him either, or Mick, the one who started the band along with John, so my point is they're all important, i just wanted to give Stevie the credit she deserved, now that people blame her for Lindsey's departure.
@Malcolm Driver "I don't think that the part of Christine wanting her but not Lindsey is true", don't know what you mean by that.
Well, the band (Mick), indeed wanted another guitarist, but since they (Buckingham/Nicks) were a DUO, Lindsey said he'd only join with Stevie, and since they were together professionally, as a group. They had a dinner, and the boys (Mick and John) said to Christine that it was up to her to decide if they should take Stevie or not. Long story short, it was Christine who got Stevie into Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey wouldn't have been in the band had she said "no" to Stevie, since he'd only join WITH her.
Best Fleetwood Mac's song ever! Two young lovers who never found a way to make it all work out at the end.
And you're looking right at them in this video!
