This is the beginning of a concert movie _(Stop Making Sense,_ possibly the best concert movie ever). The rest of the band come out over the next few songs, and by the end there's a big ensemble on stage. It's really cool the way it builds up.

I first watched the "Stop Making Sense" movie in a coffee shop in Leiden, Holland, where I was born.
The coffee shop was called "High Times", yes it was that kind of place.
Fkn awesome.
They just put it on the big TV on the wall, and followed it up with Pink Floyd "Live at Pompei" jeez what a day I was off my face but I'll never forget it.
Talking Heads are awesome. This was just the first act of the concert movie, you can see the crew setting up for the rest of the band.

qu'est-ce que c'est (what is it?)--- also "ce que j'ai fait ce soir la, ce qu'elle a dit ce soir la" (what I did that night, what she said that night") and "realizant mon espoir, je me lance vers la gloire" (realizing my hope/desire, I throw myself toward glory)... this was their first big hit. The next song adds their bassist, one after that adds the drummer, and so forth. Awesome film.

This is how he starts the "Stop making sense" concert and adds instruments as the concert goes on. I saw this concert in person and it was phenominal!!!! You are going to enjoy the rabbit hole with the talking heads they are an amazing unique band!!!! Glad this was your introduction to them and David Byrne is a geinus musician and composer and part of the song is in French....Enjoy it will be an experiance Rory 🤗

It's funny you said he looks a bit like Tommy Shelby. Just the other day I told my brother (who is also a huge fan of Talking Heads) that Cilian Murphy should play David Byrne in a biopic.
This movie was the first of it's kind. I remember vividly my Uncle playing it for me what I was around 12 or so.
Well, _The Last Waltz_ with The Band was a precedent, but that had all the backstage stuff that Demme doesn't bother with here, so they are different sorts of concert movies.

Def is a band and a SICK band - one of the very best new wave 80s by a long way. "Burning Down the House" is a great one to jump on! That is David Byrne who did some solo stuff as well but the band has a great sound.

Hang on a minute; in the last few weeks, you've discovered Pixies, Nick Cave, & Talking Heads!!! Are you stalking me? If you start delving into Elvis Costello, I'll know something's up. Three of my top four is a pretty effective strike-rate. Re TH, just cut to the chase and watch the whole 'Stop Making Sense' movie; it's (rightly) considered to be in the argument for the greatest concert film ever made (and it's really not much of an argument). I saw the show live in 1984 and it was the best concert I've ever been to.

@@RoryreactsElvis Costello’s rabbit hole is so incredibly deep, you’ll never get out. He’s very prolific. According to Wikipedia, he has 32 studio albums and six live albums. He has been one of my very favorite singer songwriters since I first heard him in 1979. I would love to see your reaction to any of his songs. 🙂
