Made in Canada I’m sold
Thanks for this video-it guided me through the installation of my Classic Grizzl-e today. I would have never thought to install the charger upside down so the plugs match the orientation of the wall socket. I was able to complete a clean, spacing-saving install because of this. The head of the charging cord is a lighter-weight plastic than I expected, scratches easily, and in general feels a bit flimsy. The charging head on the factory Volvo cord is much more robust.
Thank you for a straightforward video for the new EV car owner.
Good video! My Grizzl-E just arrived, so it's time for setup. Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the video. FYI, you shouldn’t have the charging cord with the strain like that, it will damage the wires over time. Change the 220v receptacle to a 4x4 deep box and get a new receptacle and turn the new receptacle 180 degrees from the one that’s there now and also turn the charging box 180 degrees and you’ll be good to go with no strain on the charging cable.
Bought it for 330 on special, cnat be happiest, looks solid and feels even more. Plus 3 years warranty, made in Canadá not China so can't ask for more
Level 2 chargers do not convert any power into anything. All it does is hand off the power from the house directly into the onboard charger of the car. The charger in the car is what converts it into DC voltage.
Question, If the wire are NOT 50 Amp, during installation, will this cause the unit to Blink Red repeatably?
What you didn't mention is that to actually get and track your usage you need to connect to wifi at your house which MUST be 2.4 G network. Lots of places do not provide that. Anyways, it says just use extenders which my provider converts to 5G network as soon as you add extenders which is automatically does not connect to 5G. So lastly setting up the add charger mode is not easy, I'm stuck right now because it says just go on and add the network....ok to what, to my cell phone, to my tower in my house to the actual charger.....to what. I''ve done it once before but that was a year ago and now that I had to return the Grizzle charger because it wasn't working, now I'm having problems setting up the new one.
Several years ago my friend got a full install pack from Tesla for almost no cost!
So if installed right side up, should make sure 1/4in lower?
Lock the mounts in place with the whole unit assembled, mark the top of the back mount on the wall and you are set. You don't need to adjust anything. The shift will be accounted for; I am not sure why they had a problem.
I have a 125/250 V, 30 A, 14-30R outlet in my garage. Will I need to replace my 14-30R outlet for a NEMA 14-50 outlet?
Yes. Changing the outlet is easy, but you likely don’t have the proper wiring to run 50 amps. Best to consult an electrician.
Hi. I just placed an order on the BMW X45e, which is a PHEV. My question is, if you put a charger with higher amp than the car can accept, will that damage the car?
It shouldn't. Just about every charger and every EV can manage the right amount of charge.
Jin, if your mind is not settled, consider lightbulbs. The old bulbs, incandescent (with the wire inside), can draw 100 watts. This bub can be replaced with the modern bulb (led) that draws about 15 watts and all is good. Same voltage, same ruled, just drawing lower power than the lamp is rated for.
Charlie, Don't forget to leave Chris a quarter to pay for the electricity you 'borrowed' for your Model Y.
How many subscribers is he at now? He'll be just fine ;)
Wow been watching your car reviews and didn't know the person in the background was a hot stud!
Can you close the garage door while charging thr car?
Yes
How do you charge 4 cars simultaneously at home. Everyone leaves and comes home at the same time.
Good question
There are some different options:
1. Take turns.
2. Install multiple chargers on multiple dedicated lines.
3. Install a charger with multiple output cables running off a single nema 14-50. GRIZZL-E makes one of these. It will just slow the charge rate down while 2 cars are actively charging.
4. I believe some chargers allow you to install multiple units off of a high amperage line.
Check out Wall Box. From what I understand, they can juggle 2 or more EV’s by charging management, all on the same 50 circuit. However, I just saw something today that you can’t do that in CA, a place where you can get cancer from ANYTHING (the info was from a UA-cam comment, so I do not know it’s validity).
Whoever put that cheap residential grade range receptacle in for your charger should have his license revoked. MAJOR cause of fires in EV charger set ups. You need a heavy duty (Hubbell) receptacle which will not melt like the one shown.
where’s your cat
You don't wake up to a full (TANK) if your power has been out for the last 6 days...
When getting an EV charger, be careful. Start with a call to your building department (permit or no) as areas are different. Step no. 2 should be to see if your utility to house wires (service) are big enough. "GAS Houses" (all gas appliances) may only have a 100 Amp supply ( still allowed by 2020 nec 230.79.(C).)
I understand the desire to do it yourself. The NEC is littered with rules that will apply. Section 625 is for car chargers (electric vehicle service equipment) and there are many rules to follow.
Do plenty of research, hire a pro as a consultant, or sit on the bench and have a pro do it. Just be safe and get your best install.
Smart charger but you are not.
that was mean :(
You ramble too much about nothing, this video should take five minutes.
That’s not a clean install with that much conduit running around the ceiling.
You're a child.
