Hebrews (Part 3) - Heb. 2:1-4: A verse-by-verse apologetics Bible study

  • In part 3, we learn that if we don’t pay closer attention and "shema" the gospel of Jesus, we’re going to drift away from it. And if the old message of the law, delivered by the angels, was so important to God that those who disobeyed it were justly punished, how much more trouble will we be in if we neglect His new and far superior message? The message that was delivered in person by Jesus, attested to by the apostles and the disciples, and endorsed by God Himself through miracles and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

When Jesus said ‘I am’ he always existed in the forethought of God as in logos, (outward thought), he never physically existed before his birth. Jesus reflected the character of God but as a man, not divine, the son of God through conception. God is One.

I hear you! I believe one of the reasons those prophetic passages appeal so strongly to Torah-keepers is because they are somewhat abstract. All prophetic literature is steeped in symbolism and metaphor. This isn't to say that the prophecies are not true, because they most certainly are! The question is in what form will they come to pass? There were a lot of people in the NT who had trouble believing Jesus was the messiah because they were expecting the messianic prophecies to be fulfilled in a completely different way. So is Ezekiel's temple a literal building, or is it symbolism for the presence of God among his people? You'll find biblical scholars on both sides of that issue. And the truth is: we don't know! Only God knows and we humans will have to wait and see.
And whatever those prophecies mean, they will not contradict the numerous very clear passages about what Christians are expected to do today. So if you're not well-versed in OT prophecy, I would recommend keeping your conversations with your Torah-keeping friends focused on the concrete topic of Jesus and His gospel, rather than speculations about how certain prophecies might come to pass in the Last Days.
      Blessings!
      Rob

Believe what God has said in His word, even if you don't understand. Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness. We do not live by bread alone but by *every* word of God. Those who disobeyed God did not enter into the promised land. How did they disobey? Study that part of the scriptures. Obedience is evidence of our faith. If we love God we will keep His commandments. If we know God we will keep His commandments. If we believe Jesus is God Himself then we will keep God's commandments. Do not be deceived.
      Isaiah 2:22
"Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; For why should he be esteemed?"
Listen to God. Jesus is God. Do you believe Jesus is God?
      1John 2:3-6, 17, 29
"By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. ... The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. ... *If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who **_practices righteousness_** is born of Him."*
      Romans 7:12
"So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy *and righteous* and good."
When someone is telling you that you don't need to obey, don't believe them. Disobedience equals unbelief. If we really believe it will be _evidenced_ by obedience. The shadow shows most who believed God and applied the blood of the Lamb (Passover) did not enter into the promised land because they _disobeyed._ The Lord is our righteousness...apart from the law...because the law requires 100% obedience and none of us have obtained that perfect righteousness. We need a Savior and God provided Yeshua. He did not provide Yeshua so that we can go on sinning. He saved us so that we can obey...obedience is the evidence of our faith. If someone is telling you it's o.k. not to keep sabbath, food laws, it's o.k. to divorce and remarry while your spouse is still alive (adultery), do not listen to them. Listen to God. Shalom

Hey professor, thank you for all the work you do through your ministry. Since the old covenant is a shadow of the good things that have come in Jesus, would you say that the fact that neither the people who were at the base of mount Sinai or Moses entered the promise land is a shadow that obedience to the law is inferior to life in the spirit?, aka sanctification by the law vs by the Holy Spirit.

    • @salpezzino7803

Hi, Dan! That's a very interesting question. Personally, I don't see the fact that most of the Israelites at Sinai didn't make it into the promised land as a foreshadowing of sanctification by the Holy Spirit. As we'll see in this Hebrews series when we get to chapter 4, the author actually draws out the idea that the reason they never made it into the promised land was a lack of faith. In Numbers 14 God says, “How long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the signs I have performed among them?" And a little later He declares, "Your children will be shepherds here for forty years, suffering for your *unfaithfulness,* until the last of your bodies lies in the wilderness" (Num. 14:33).

Hi Professor. Thanks for all you do. I just found your channel last week and I enjoy it very much.
I have a question pertaining to the 17:18 angel proclamation of Exo 3 from Acts 7. I'm confused because in v.6 of Exodus, the Angel of the Lord states in first person that it is the GOD of his forefathers, then Moses hid his face, afraid to look at GOD.
I'm going a little of the cuff but I've always seen a difference in that particular Angel of the Lord than the others. Would these only be angels reciting GODS words Joshua and Moses, etc...?
I've always assumed the the Angel of the Lord was GOD or JESUS or whatever else pertains to GOD himself. Like Joshua 5:15 or the 1 of the 3 Angels that did not go into Gomorrah in Gen 18. Thanks in advance.

I'm glad you found us, Manasseh! Many instances of "the angel of the Lord" in the OT do seem to be theophanies. And I agree that is the case in Exodus 3. It is God Himself speaking to Moses.

The message is the revelation of Christ, the incarnation, and the gospel message. Jesus was killed, buried, and rose on the third day to take away the sins of the world. The result is deliverance. 23:00 mark forward. Listen carefully- your questions are answered.

Since we all sin and fall short, no matter what, couldn't one do the following.
1st set up: Church-ology: Doing and keeping anything that most modern churches do and keep. Like Christmas, Easter, Sunday Sabbath, lent, and a whole host of other ideas and holidays or such things.
Ok, so now.... Couldn't one replace Church-ology with Torah-ology?
I get that some Torah observant folks get legalistic, but what if one does Torah with the same zealousness that one does Church-ology?
Replace Sunday with Saturday, keep Passover instead of Easter, keep the rest of the feasts, instead of other non biblical holidays (like Christmas), eat healthy (ie: don't eat what Yahua suggests), amd other things.
Rob speaks against the Torah observant like some of them are a cult, but I have heard of many protestant churches who are legalistic and cultish, but only for their traditions of men.
Wouldn't it make more sense to keep Torah commandments, statues, and feasts, within and under the grace of Christ and that he replaced the whole Priest system for the atonement of sins? Wouldn't it be better to do what God's will for us is, vs. the traditions and many false teaching of so called theologians?
If we love Jesus and God, wouldn't it be better to show our faith by our works by doing the things he wants us to do, vs. doing the things that have little or nothing to do with the Bible and biblical truth?
    Many blessings!

JC didn't fulfill his prophecy that he will come back and judge with the kingdom of heaven in the time life of his own desiples! (another gospel states there was a crowd, not just his desiples, just one more contridiction to the list).
      *See Matthew 16:27-28*
27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, *and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.*
"Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
*Sorry, but that failed to happen, when exactly did he return and judge the people in his disciples life time ??*
Although verse 28 is usually thought of as fulfilled by the transfiguration, verse 27 was not, and it is evident they go hand in hand.
Further more these verses are taken from the section titled *Jesus Predicts His Death* so the claim the transfiguration that happened before he died is the fulfillment, cannot stand.
      ___________________________________________________
      Another one:
      *John 1:*
49 Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
50 Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” 51 He then added, *“Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”*
*That too failed to happen. Nathanael did not see that come true.*
*Not G-d, and not even a real prophet.*
      Time to rethink things.
*The OT is the only word of G-d.*
You are welcome and try to prove me wrong, but since you can't and we both know it, you are betraying God by worshiping another with him.
      Think what that means ...

    • @pazrahamim9220
      @pazrahamim9220 9 місяців тому

      @TorahPlantsNFungi-km6ih
'Gods' because we were made in His image, not that any of us should think of himself as more than human. We are Gods, because we were given free will.
      *God is not a man*
      *See numbers **23:19** (KJV)*
*God is not a man,* that he should lie; neither *the son of man,* that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? *or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?*
      *Hosea 11:9*
*For I am God, and not a man- the Holy One among you.*
God is not a man nor does He get born (son of man). He can, but He said He does not.
      Is God a liar ?
      Read that whole verse:
*..or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?*
He said it, it's done. So shall it forever be.
Christianity is following a man made God who was deified by a pagan based culture.
JC's early followers simply thought of him as a messiah. Even they left that faith after he did not fulfill his prophecy of judgment and returning with the kingdom of God while some were still among the living... You see ? just another proof that he wasn't God - God fulfils.
People were fooled by Paul and the others (there's far too much on that to fit here).
That is not the God of Israel you are worshiping. The God of Israel does not require blood to give His forgivness. Just a repentant heart and adherence to His law, if you are a gentile,- the 7 He gave to the nations. Prohibition of Idolatry is one of those.
*God does not lie, only humans do.*
      __________________________________________________
*See how JC made a mistake*
      *Matthew 16*
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, *for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.*
*Now look what is written in John 1:*
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 *The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ).* 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
*Peter heard this from his own brother, not from God*
*As JC didn't mention any of that, he didn't know and thus made a mistake.*
*JC was no God and the NT is not the word of God*
*God doesn't make mistakes, only humans do.*
