This is honestly a vibe even without the song. Carlos' "neoclassical goth" style was really expressed in his bass playing. True minimalist composition brilliancy. Without looking in, it seems like a simple repeat structure bass line but when you really listen you can feel a story.
irotinmyskin That's right, it's not like it's straightforward bass thinking is it? He's a pretty free flowing kinda bassist, doesn't mark all his 16ths or full times for what matters, he's just rythmically chill, groovy and on melodically on edge.

All the other tracks were played by people that Harmonix hired to play the songs which had the direct approval of the bands. what an insignificant and inaccurate comment. literally typed out “about a minute and 23 seconds in” instead of “1:23” also i’ve been playing this bassline for years now and i don’t hear him hitting the wrong note. in fact i hear him adding an open note of the E string right before moving to A which seems fairly consistent throughout this part of the song

not at all. Paul has done a great job on bass lately. Obviously not as good as Carlos, but Interpol is still great. Marauder and El Pintor are two of my favorite albums of the past 5 years

@@Benjirocker This is so obviously Carlos that you're insane if you think not. There's just so many nuanced parts that are specific to the song that many covers just don't include/replicate. Just because you believe Carlos is some god that could never produce a sound like this doesn't change the fact this is clearly the original recording. The album was recorded live so there's definitely a reason for certain parts being slightly off beat (as well as the fact that when the drums are full volume they mask some of the timing error anyway). As others have mentioned, the signature jazz bass tone that you call "bad tone" is 1- something that people may like and 2- It's literally recorded live meaning that some of the bleed in from the instruments most likely caused some of the original tone to be lost when isolating the bass to make the other instruments less obvious.
@@danimation1915 I'm not saying Carlos was off beat - I'm saying the 14 YEAR OLD playing on this video this got the rhythm totally wrong. The rhythm in the verse starting at 0:38 is not even close. Pretty funny Also quick note on the cover you sent - how am I supposed to trust a cover that doesn't even do the triplet notes in the outro?
