  • He's one of the best composers ...his songs are not just hits-they are standards.
He's from Tuskegee Alabama and I am from Montgomery...we crossed paths in 1973 or so...been crossing paths ever since! He's the best!

This was a great interview with Lionel Richie, he is so right about everything he said. My heart still aches for Michael and Elvis, the people who should have protected them let them down, Elvis was never the same after his mother died, and Michael was never the same after the child molestation fiasco. I never believed and will never believe he would hurt a child, because he was child like himself. We should have done right by both of them.

Karen McDermott They both (Elvis and MJ) pushed away people who tried to protect them. They wanted “yes men” only. That was the recipe for their downfall.

Michael was NOT able to maintain his earned status in the 1980es. He was almost musicly dead in 1999 and that went on until 2008 - Thrillers birthday. Michael wasn't creating something new people could talk of, it was refurbished music he recorded 26 years earlier.

Wow, up to his death, people are using Michael to promote their new books, cds, reviving their careers, etc, by bragging about him being their friend. They realized Michael will forever be alive in the hearts and minds of millions of people around the world, who love him; while they are but a memory. One old female singer had a concert and called it “a tribute to Michael Jackson.”

The Commodores supported the Jackson 5 on tour in the early 70s. No one new who The Commodores were. Lionel kind of owes his career to Michael and his brothers as they gave him exposure to the public when touring. Lionel is extremely talented though. I wish Michael had a lightbulb moment like he did.

MJ didnt change his inner core because of money. The more money he got, the more he donated to charity.
It's the media who doesn't even care about the goodness of Mj but focuses on ruining his life because of his looks and personal choices in life (that noone should care about because it's his private life) Media drag him down and those who are afraid of how much power he is getting as a black person.
How much a human being can take..
Michael is just human.. so many people hurt him especially those he trusted. Money is a factor. People who loved his money and fame..
BUT definitely money didnt change Mj's faith to humanity.. how many concerts he did for charity? Even when he was high with painkillers and mumbling.. he uttered "helping children". The money he will earn is to help the children.. That's Michael.
For him MONEY = HELPING PEOPLE

    • @fatimasaidu1546
      @fatimasaidu1546 2 роки тому +2

I agree with you totally. People always try to compare his drug(painkillers) addiction to other celebrities but his was beyond his control. He didn't choose to be burned in that Pepsi commercial and what ultimately killed him is those allegations that prevented him from sleeping. The reason why he had to take those sleeping drugs that resulted in his death. It pains me when people try to blame him for his death. I mean the man didn't even smoke nor took alcohol because of his religious background.

I love this interview. Everything in life happens for a reason. There were definitely rock solid reasons Lionel had to take that 3-year period away from his career. As he mentioned, it ultimately saved his life. He's such a brilliant musician but more than that, he's savvy enough to know how to take care of his sanity and well being. I would love to meet with Lionel Richie some day and share with him, face to face, how I feel about him.

I like them both. Michael and Lionel are two different acts. Lionel is more the musician, while Michael was more the performer. I think what Lionel meant by the competitive friendship is that he was always trying to be even bigger and better himself, creatively and in terms of success, because Michael was obviously the biggest thing breathing in the 80s. While Lionel Richie's albums worldwide, by comparison, never really had the same impact as "Off The Wall" or "Thriller", he still didn't have to hide with the number of top 10 hits he wrote.

I am now 73 looking back on my life … can see how the decades of someone’s life changes … and so seems to me that in the 90’s Michael was scrambling to raise the bar on his past creations … and kinda on edge about it because his younger work was so intensely iconic … did he succeed in the 90’s? Maybe in a different way … however, in our 20’s is when our bodies are still growing and we are still innocent … so whatever we were doing back then was extremely special. And no matter how old we get, there is still that part of us we can access in our 20’s we want to do again, but our bodies & experiences don’t let us return. And when I have researched about ‘This Is It’ Michael wanted to do … despite the pain killers, not sure at 50 he could have pulled it off … and certainly not for 10 shows … and AEG’s demands for 50 would have killed him.

What a wonderful interview, I have so much respect for Lionel Richie. Another artist that came to mind while watching this was George Michael, he did his level best to step back from his enormous fame in the early 90s, didn't give interviews to promote his product, didn't appear on the sleeve of his records or in the video's for the singles, didn't tour to promote his albums, you name it he tried to get away from that level of fame. The ironic thing is it wasn't fame that turned him to drugs it was the losses he went through after his partner and Mother passed away, his life got complicated after that in the mid to late 90s.

@nemoran fanboys. i never said he didn't have it. i said it doesn't cause your skin to evenly get white. it causes patches of skin, so he evened it out with creme. this is an absolute fact. its also a easy to see the amount of surgery's he had by looking at his face over time. you can clearly see he started pretty early on and kept continuing until his face was basically ruined.

@@juanchohitdalottoNo it did not. He was treated for the burns and then was not on any pain medication after that. Even during the treatment he was given a chaser to prevent a high since he was a Jehovah’s Witness. After that he was only on lupus medication and nothing else until 1993 when he got a painful scalp balloon graft surgery to repair his burns scar. That’s when he developed a neuroma & needed pain medication and the false allegations hit at the same time and the psychological trauma caused dependence. He went to rehab and was clean until 1999 when he fell from the bridge & injured his back & needed painkiller again and then allegations hit again in 2003. MJ’s life was very difficult, it’s not that “drugs got him”.. for the most part he needed them and then psychological trauma would cause dependence. He could not catch a break. People are quick to blame him but they wouldn’t last a day in his life.

How can Lionel Ritchie compare himself to Michael Jackson? He was not a superstar. Michael was a superstar. Now that Michael is dead all these people go on television and talk trash about him or saying something wonderful and then follow it up with the negative. I hate them all.

Lionel actually knew MJ unlike you. So I think he can say whatever he wants about his expierence with Michael good or bad. Nobody really has friends in the music bussines but thats just how they call it because its simple for the big audience. Maybe he got a few things wrong but its his expierence and his side of the story.

Lionel is 100% correct about the burn. MJ died at 50, it was a literal midlife crisis

6:04 But anyway; the friends who were your friends before you were famous probably would have ended up dumping you if you hadn't become famous and had had some problems instead. So no, that logic's not sound. But then you don't have to be famous to have no friends. Many ordinary people have no friends.
