  • This Absolute Documentary explores the lives of Britain's biggest family and how they cope with their chaotic and unique lives. Sue and Noel Radford have 16 kids already and they aren't stopping there. The couple were both given up for adoption at birth and due to their neglected childhoods wanted a big family. Sue first fell pregnant with Chris at just 14 in 1989 and was determined to keep the baby. She married Noel four years later - and they were soon expecting their second child Sophie. From then onwards she gave birth to a new child every year for over a decade. But as they try for number 17 there are complications and the family is faced with some life-changing news.

Seems like it would be a chaotic household, but I think they handle it very well. They really, genuinely love their children and none of them are forgotten or looked over. I absolutely adore them.

I came from a big family of 8 siblings, and more is not necessarily worse, except for the space, but we had a boys room, a girls room and parents room. As the older children grow up and help with the younger ones, they turned out to be GREAT parents and community leaders. It taught us patience and forgiveness following frustration and anger. All of that. We had hand me downs, but so did all the cousins! Our families passed down shoes and clothes to the next sizes. The younger ones learned faster, as they had older ones as tutors. Playing "school" was one of our favorite "games" :) We were lucky to be living in an agricultural town where a lot of our family & friends brought fresh vegetables home, our grandparents had a small farm with lots of chickens, we had recipies to stretch a small amount of meat to stretch. We did eat well, our snacks were apples and oranges fresh from the trees and ran around the neighborhood (and further) without fear. There was always a partner to go with you. I had 3 girls, lost one and I wish I had more! This family has all the heart in the world with all hearts beating as one

We only have four, but that is how we thrive. Especially things getting more and more expensive. Hand me downs were a big deal for us as kids, too, and my kids. My sister came over just today to hand me some bags of clothes back from me handing them off to her. They'll go for her next again. I am done after this one. It is financially irresponsible for us to have any more, or we absolutely would.

I'm devastated that they lost two little babies. Some people think it's easier as the baby wasn't born yet but that couldn't be further from the truth. I know that time has passed since this happened but you are all in my prayers. Xx

Luke looks so much like Chloe; it's like he's her 'mini me'. After Chloe left for college having him around must have been a real joy, because he was a reminder of his sister, and is such a good kid.

Im the youngest of a big family, as we're many of my classmates. The drawback for me, was my parents had me at 40 & 43. One died at 50, the other around 70. My only memories, are of them as senior citizens. But! I have very close relationships with my 20+ nieces and nephews; who are closer to my age, than my own siblings. It evens out.

I do worry that the parents rely too much on their identity as parents especially the mother. She's scared of the children growing up and leaving because then she has to address who she is if not a full time care giver to children. I think that a lot of mothers suffer from that identity crisis but once their children are more independent gives them the opportunity to discover themselves and their hobbies/interests more and become more well rounded people not just mum

Your idea that children are excused from responsibility because they are children is a VERY child like, and immature way of looking at the world!! The world and the people in it don't DESERVE ANYTHING just because they are born!! It is the parents responsibility to teach their children to be responsible, to do chores, to work for EVERYTHING that you have... if anything happens to those children in the future, or they lose their parents... those kids will ALL not only be able to care for themselves, but they will also be capable of caring for their own families and then some!!! Biggest mistake a parent could make is not teaching children how to care for themselves and others!! ITS the entire definition of love and life... if your living only for yourself... that is the epitome of selfish!!!!!

Being a baker is a great trade/craft not to mention fairly simple to do if you're good at it. That house is huge & it's an accomplishment go to college. Here's a hint though, stop having so many babies.

    When is there enough children?
I couldn't deal with the chaos & noise.
It's selfish to just keep reproducing.
Sue soon will be in the change of life, what then? She won't be of childbearing age forever.
What about her having a life of her own?

They are a great family who wanted a big family. The children are all loved & wanted, have traveled overseas many times. They have a pie business so no benefits at all. Keep your judgements to yourself!
