We had an early and wonderfully long visit from Branch Manager Shadow and Lumber Jackie this morning!
Shadow arrived first before sunrise and waits for Jackie. She arrives with a stick and Shadow immediately moves in to help with stick placement. Jackie let's him this time and moves around to adjust some other sticks instead, while he wasn't looking.
Later while working around the nest, Shadow starts his shenanigans by giving her a love nip on her wing feathers. He does it a second time minutes later but bites her bum feathers this time and Jackie shoots him a stern look. "Stop that, Mister." 😠🤨 You could see he was thinking about it seconds before he did it too.
She's so use to his shenanigans, she lets it roll right off her shoulders and continues her nest-keeping. Except, maybe just a bit more aware of which way she points her tail feathers.
They both spend quite a bit of time doing a bit of neighborhood watch with Jackie perched up on the side balcony. She also performed a little maintenance on one of the tree branches while she was up there.
Once the sun rises, Jackie takes off to do a little shopping and returns with a very large sticky stick and Shadow jumps to try to take over that delivery too. Nope, Lumber Jackie was on a mission and lugs it across the nest. Shadow can't help himself after such an exciting stick delivery from his lady. He's pulling it, she's pulling it... and they settled on the side for now. Many of us know, they move sticks several, countless times actually, before it finds a final resting place. They both love snapping those twiggy pieces off, trimming it to fit better while providing small pieces as filler around the nest.
Jackie then gives Shadow a beaky nip for good measure. I love how his reaction is always to sink his head and look away as if he has no idea why he deserved that. 🤭🤔
We get a great close-up of our Queen of the Lake as she stands on the back porch. When she turns around, she gets her talons stuck on a branch and has a bit of a struggle getting loose. They spend a little more time perched as the sun rises over the lake. Then they both head out together to start their day. Maybe off to catch some breakfish.
They spent nearly two hours on the nest this morning and it was such a treat!❤️
