    I bought this for my electro-acoustic bass ukulele. Unfortunately it is not compatible with an instrument with a pre-amp... I am so disappointed! I spent a lot of money and now I am left with nothing. At the shop where I bought the set, they could exchange it for the WL20 L, but that didn't work either. Now I will have to drag my 3 meter long heavy wire. I couldn't find any support on the Boss website and it took the guys at the shop to find out this is not compatible with an instrument with a pre-amp. Please Boss, warn buyers about this!

    I have been researching guitar wireless units in the up-to- US $350 range for a while, and have decided to go for the Boss WL-20.
    I did not want to go for the Relay because it is too bulky for me.
    I had originally thought that I would go with the U2 Xvive, but by almost all accounts, there are horrendous problems with those cutting out, being susceptible to interference, and so on, when in 'real world' use. Interesting how they are both 2.4GHz, and yet Boss seems to have made a unit which works well. One criticism I have read is that the jack itself is not quite long enough to depress the little steel 'button' when plugged into some guitars.
    If you look in the photos (or this video), you will see this button just above the shaft of the jack (this 'button' comes out of the hilt of the plug). People have solved this problem by sliding a washer over the shaft of the jack plug, so that the washer abuts the button, and pushes it in fully when the jack is pushed into a guitar jack socket.

    I have no doubt this will be a market leading project as when Boss does it, they do it so damn well (pedal board friendly receiver...brilliant!) But my issue with all these wireless units coming out is the bulky transmitter. I still prefer something attached to my strap at the back with a lead to the guitar where its out of sight and and not impacting on the aesthetic of the guitar or getting in the way if the jack input is on the front of the guitar. They look terrible on a 335 :( Come on Matt, have a word with the designers and make this another option then you will have all bases covered.

      Paul Hart add to those relevant issues add in the complications of similar wireless devices operating on the same or nearby frequencies. Too many wireless devices in a given space requires an AES engineer to de emphasize the crosstalk by cabling at the end of the gig. I'd love to try it that said, Boss makes some great products

    • @GregRickard
      @GregRickard 6 років тому +1

      Couldn't you get a really short lead into the guitar with a female plug on the end and plug the transmitter into that? You could double-sides tape it to the guitar somewhere less obtrusive then.

    • @tylerangle1990
      @tylerangle1990 6 років тому

      Greg Rickard this is what I'm thinking as well. I'd rather have the little transmitter in my back pocket or something than sticking out of my guitar.

      I agree. That’s why I’m leaning more toward the shure wireless because it also doubles as a tuner to put on your pedalboard which is nice.

    I came here searching for the reason the jacks are TRS. I guess that's the "charge two units with one wire" feature that uses that ring.
    I was hoping at first it supported stereo guitar outputs (Parker Fly, Rick-o-sound) but no.

    This looks great - If I was to rig an extension onto it so I could attach the transmitter to my strap and then have a right-angled, lower profile jack plugging into the guitar, would this work? Wondering why the transmitter is TRS - charging? I worry about damaging the transmitter having it sticking out too far from a Tele or LP....

    How would these wireless boxes compare to gold soldered patch cables from brands like Mogami? I am concerned that these wireless units may provide too much tone suck for recording purposes.

    I currently have the WL50 model, Basically pleased with it - HOWEVER.. one point i do need to make, is if you change guitars during your set, yr sound will cut out if you dont allow enough time for it to connect/find signal to the next guitar. If anyone has found the answer to this.. please let me know as its a pain right now!

    • @chipoverbaugh5919
      @chipoverbaugh5919 3 роки тому +1

      No, you will need to purchase the WL-20L. The great part of the model with the L suffix is it works with both passive and active pickups. Boss claims that this version DOES NOT allow for the subtle roll off tone that a cable provides. Don’t ask me, I can’t hear any difference. This awesome accessory works flawlessly with both my Jim Root Signature Telecasters, the Squire with passive humbuckers and the Fender with active EMGs. This will change your life.

  • @michtig

    Why are the plugs/connectors stereo/TRS? Do I need to use a stereo/TRS adapter or an extender if I was to need one? I want to place the WL20 on my pedal board because of it's a small footprint, but I don't want it hanging off my volume pedal, so I want to safely place it somewhere else on my pedal board and run an extender cable to my volume pedal. Will the adapter and extender cable need to be stereo/TRS?

    • @BruceBridwell
      @BruceBridwell 6 років тому +1

      Embrio well said and you expertly detected my sarcasm! I agree with the professor too. I'm sure all of the signals bouncing around are already problematic. The IoT thing needs to go away to some degree, the "smarter" our gadgets become the dumber the population gets. I don't see any need for a refrigerator having internet access any more than my wife sees my need for more equipment.

    • @Embrio
      @Embrio 6 років тому

      I'm completely agree on that too. Especially 2.4GHZ frequency band is became a garbage frequency band because of all this wireless IoT, routers etc. things. It should be a problem in "high density wireless areas".
      But of course it's not very big problem to deal with. It's very handy dandy tool for live-gig players. The only thing i do not know about this; fuzz pedals. Most of fuzz pedals are "wants to see guitar directly" and doesn't like buffers front of it. and probably this wireless unit has a buffer in it. So i'm not sure if it's works well with "fuzz pedal first" scenario or not.. I would appreciate it if someone could explain to me :)

      Phil Wilson at 1:05 he says it can go into an amp, pedal or interface.
