They were getting ready to go in my 1,000 gallon aquarium. This Could've happened to any setup. But I do get where your coming from with these pool ponds, there's definitely more risk involved than a aquarium.
@@mattsmonsterfish1615 yeah I know hindsight is great and it's not something you'd have thought and you deeply care about your fish but these ponds are just more accident prone. I couldn't sleep at night thinking about the plastic ripping somehow

@@elgallo1606 How long does it take to cycle a large tank? I’m just curious as I am looking to build a 4500g monster fish pond. I am assuming it would be much longer to cycle than a small aquarium.
@@elgallo1606 I don't even think he has the 1000 gallon anymore, it's been over a year of him saying it's been up and running but I haven't seen anything about it in months. Just a big tease at this point.
That’s why I use both my filters to break the surface when they return if air pump goes the water is still getting oxygenated maybe be noisy but won’t loose fish. Sorry for your loss happened to me before lost albino pearl stingrays x4 a super red arrow and lots of other stuff. just need to learn from your mistakes don’t rely on bubblers use water movement for surface agitation as well

How many days were you gone for? That water looked like it hadn’t been oxygenated in a week. All those fish are super hardy, you think the bio-load was maybe a bit much for that size pond?

Last time I lost my whole aquarium it broke my heart and I left the hobby for 3 years but just came back even if it still haunts me

I setup a 17.5 gallon acrylic tank bridge that I built years ago connecting two 75 gallon tanks with a 20 gallon sump, it's a 4 tank system with an overflow box. Knowing that if the acrylic tank bridge sprung an air leak it would pump the sump water into the tank and overflow all over my floor so I bought a camera overlooking my living room on Ebay for about $25 that I can check on my phone periodically when I'm away, it pans and zooms. I'd highly suggest one of those, super helpful if going away being able to monitor tanks and property in general.

With a pond worth that much, Redundancy and Alarms!
Especially when you're leaving town, super important to have a backup.
I've got a phone alert going off when something fails (heat/pump),
a secondary heater that could in theory handle things solo if the second one fails,
a second emergency filter I can turn on remotely if I have to,
a second feeder I can remotely trigger if the first one somehow gets stuck,
and a cheap home security camera to monitor things.
Its an expense, but not as bad as restocking your pond.
How do you get a phone alert like that Sven?
@@aquastu I personally just programmed an arduino microchip board to send out some telemetry over 'Internet of Things' protocol. It constantly measures wattage, waterlevel and temperature, and if something is abnormal it will flag for an alarm and my phone starts beeping. I can see how my tank is doing wherever I am. ;-)
If you have a LOT of money, you could invest in some apex devices. Same thing, just costs 10 times as much. ;)

Sorry to hear this. After 25+ years in the hobby I accidentally killed about $600 worth of fish by forgetting to readjust my output after a water change. The fish all suffocated. Now I always have some kind of backup or more than one source of surface agitation. Sorry for your loss

I have an easy solution for this - wireless camera which you view from an app on your phone.... that way you can always keep an eye on things no matter where you are. I’m sorry for this tragic loss it was an accident. I support you starting over and rescuing some fish yourself !

Oh Matt I am so sorry, that must be the hardest thing to deal with. To not know what happened and what you could have done to prevent it, that is devastating. My heart goes out to you, and your poor babies you lost. I am so sorry.
Sorry for your loss. Sucks when this happens. 2019 I lost 16" pearl stingray, 22" armatus, 22" silver arowana, 3x 14" goliath african tiger fish and more. Now I have my tanks hooked up to my smart home network so not only can I control everything with siri and google I can also see from my phone of the filters, heaters, lights etc are on and I have smart cameras around the house so I can also check up on my tanks.
So sorry for your loss.
Man, so sorry to hear. Last year I went away for 18 days and two tanks were wiped out due to over feeding (can’t blame the neighbours). So this year I hired someone and still lost a tank due to over feeding! Nothing was on the same leave as your losses though. Sorry to hear this man

Sorry for your loss, my 300 gallon tank popped a seal about the same time and I lost all but 2 of the fish. Really feeling for you, at you have the pup and the replacements from OFR!

I feel for you. Perhaps having 2 filters such as a sponge filter and your regular filter. My sponge and air stones are hooked to a UPS so that if there is a power outage the fish still have air and/or filtration. I want you to know that because of you, I am currently designing to build a monster fish room! My husband already bought some baby fish that will grow into monsters! Please keep going in this hobby. Maybe this experience could help you share some info on how high you would place receptacles so that they are visible? Maybe 4 to 5 feet from the ground?

I had the same kinda thing happen to me was out of state doing a fishing tournament and power went out at the house for 3 days lost everything i give you props sir cause it broke me out of the hobby completely

Sorry to hear... You'r indoor pool ponds are an inspiration! Maybe for next time, get one of those Power Loss Alarms for your water pump or backup units which alarms you to a power loss?
Sorry that you lost all the fish. I would put a video camera in the room that you can get live feeds to ur phone so when your out you can check on things and call someone if something happens
freak accidents happen but they are still hard to get over. we bond with our fish and that's the hardest.
