  • On March 12, 2010 Forrest Wiley sat down at his home in Greeley, CO and told of his experiences in World War II. Forrest, born in Madrid, NE and raised in Briggsdale, CO, served as a ship fitter aboard the USS Enterprise (CV-6). The Enterprise was both involved in the most battles with the Japanese as well as the most decorated ship in all of WWII. It was during one of these battles, the Battle of Santa Cruz Islands, when the ship was hit with a bomb and Forrest was injured. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He stayed on and would sail with the Enterprise until the war's end. After his service, Forrest went on to have a 39-year career at Weld County Garage. He also married his lovely wife Mary and they were married almost 50 years until her passing. They have four children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren (at the time of this interview).
