This production cost me, by far, the most time, energy, resources, and money of any video I've done! I hope you enjoy it! FYI, this video is NOT sponsored. I'm just a mall megafan - it's what I do!
The Tim Horton's is actually closed now; I think it closed in June suddenly due to franchising issues. Minnesota had a few locations including the Mall of America one, but I believe the franchise owner either wasn't paying their royalties or their taxes, so the spot is vacant currently. It's in a wonderful location on the 2nd floor in the Rotunda, which is a well-known spot for events and performances.
I'm local to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and an avid watcher of your videos! I just visited Edmonton and WEM a couple months ago! I had such a great time at your mall. I'm so glad you were able to come and see ours! I welcome you back in the future.
I'm a Mall of America employee! Here are some fun facts about the Mall of America- - West Ed and MOA are owned by the same families. -The park has many live trees, and they can help control noise. Many of them are actually 30+ years old and were there when the park opened! -The Mall of America has one of the largest K9 teams in the USA (it's in the top 5 I believe) and they have at least 15 K9 units who are trained to detect explosives. The dogs also do training and visit the West Ed mall for additional training and exercises, and the West Ed K9 team does the same in Minnesota. I got to meet West Ed K9 Riley! -The MOA has its own police station in addition to a security team with fully trained EMTs -The MOA has so many security features such as facial recognition programs, plainclothes officers, and some things that they don't even make public due to how cutting-edge it is. We have had two security incidents that were pretty high profile (one in which a child was thrown from the third floor) but he was caught almost instantly due to the Bloomington Police Department. -Sea Life at the MOA's tunnel actually makes the fish look smaller due to the glass used. -Minnesota has no sales tax on clothing due to the Mall of America, and we get many people come in before school starts for back-to-school shopping. -The MOA boasts an actual wedding chapel where people actually get married regularly, and they sell wedding accessories as well. -The MOA is currently trying to change directions due to people moving to online shopping. They are now aiming for a 50/50 retail/experience ratio and have opened instillations such as "Candytopia", The Void VR experience, arcades, a children's spa for manicures/pedicures/updos, and so on. If you plan another visit and I'm still working at the mall, I'd love to give you a tour and show you around. I can even look and see if I can get you set up with administrative staff.
So MOA is becoming/like a indoor Disneyland Resort. With the Nick Universe park being the Disneyland Park, and the rest of the mall being Downtown Disney, or Disney Springs.
Other malls may dethrone WEM in stats but, it'll always be the Best Edmonton Mall, hands down! Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again your videos are always so informative, well put together and highly entertaining to watch. Thanks!!
@@ECB_Ayye_Zee it's a movie theater, both malls have them, both are big... but big movie theaters are not anything special these days. movie theaters in malls are far more common than amusement parks, water parks, and everything else these malls have to offer

I live about halfway between both malls (Regina, Saskatchewan) and been to both malls within the last two years, I've played the mini golf, mirror maze, play park, the shopping, but the fact WEM has so much to look at and its indoor lake, skating rink, water park takes it for me.
My boyfriend is from Minneapolis and I'm from Edmonton, so we've had an opportunity to visit both malls. Overall, I agree with your assessment, but I'd have to give Mall of America a slight edge due to the layout alone. MoA is much easier to navigate due to the circular shape; whereas with the more linear West Edmonton Mall, you have to walk from one end of the mall to the other. There are several stores that are split off from the main path, making navigation more difficult for people who are physically impaired. Furthermore, this archaic layout has caused certain areas of the mall, like Phase 1, to feel deserted. My solution would be to have a tram that circles around the exterior of the facility, but I don't know how financially feasible that would be given the state of shopping malls in 2019. It seems like the Ghermezians are too busy building new malls down south to bother investing more capital into their existing properties.

WEM's back utility and delivery corridors are insane. Its often like the set of some Sci-fi space station at times, depending on where you are in the mall. They're so large, that they have personal vehicles driving around in some of them. 😜
I think if you had compared the transit options, the MOA would've won. Could fly into the airport and get to the mall without ever stepping outside. Does Edmonton offer that?

Today I learned that a Louis Vuitton store opened at West Ed. When I used to live there, you had to go to Manulife Place for that. Not that I care, just an observation. I would love to see a video of how the malls of North America compare to those in Japan. I would be happy to be your tour guide and translator!
Fun fact, youngster. Johnny Rockets restaurant (that you love at MOA, used to be in West Edmonton Mall. I ate there. It was beside the Ice Palace, near the west escalator.
West Edmonton Malls customer base I think is larger than you state. Folks in Alberta don't seem to think any thing of traveling hundreds of K.M. to be some where. We used to live in Cold Lake, My folks used to drive to Edmonton to go shopping routinely.
Fast-forward to 2024, and WEM is really starting to show its age...and lack of investment in the entertainment aspect of the mall. WEM keeps losing more & more of what made it attractive/unique, with these attractions being replaced with more and more retail space.
Been to both, used to live in Manitoba so the MOA was actually closer but I gotta say I prefer the WEM. Feels more relaxed. At MOA we were greeted with signage talking about guns and gangs on the door. Also saw a lot of empty spots when we were in MOA, not that WEM doesn’t have it’s fair share. Both are great but it’s WEM for me
Excellent video, I appreciate the work that goes into this. Now... When it comes to Layout, I am petrified of heights and you couldn't get me on the third level, WEM wins my layout choice lol.
I can’t until the American dream mall opens! Great video by the way. I hope we get a Johnny rockets there because the Johnny rockets at Garden State plaza closed a few months ago.

Another fun fact, the mall of America got approved to build a water park!!! I’m so excited the concept pics are insane
West Edmonton Malls customer base I think is larger than you state. Folks in Alberta don't seem to think any thing of traveling hundreds of K.M. to be some where. We used to live in Cold Lake, My folks used to drive to Edmonton to go shopping routinely.
Well, like, where else are they gonna go, eh? :)
Good job on the video
I will always love WEM, but I definitely will have to check out Mall of America someday!
mrdeeds72 I want to do that two when I can fly by myself
Team WEM who’s with me?
Me
Me too
amazing video, I’ve never been to went Edmonton mall but after seeing this it seems it could be worth it
Very good video
Fast-forward to 2024, and WEM is really starting to show its age...and lack of investment in the entertainment aspect of the mall. WEM keeps losing more & more of what made it attractive/unique, with these attractions being replaced with more and more retail space.
West Ed is better of course...... but I also live in Edmonton so 😂
Kev edmontonians are some of the most down to earth people I’ve ever met. Not a super great city, but super great people.
Kev lol me too
Colby Abrahamsz you live in red deer or something? 😝
I live five minutes away
Colby Abrahamsz thought so hahaha
Thank you for remembering Johnny Rockets good sir. That was an excellent place to go
Minebender is better than any Gerstlauer Eurofighter. Well chosen
Both are great but it’s WEM for me
There’s a new megamall opening at the meadowlands in New Jersey called American dream do you think you’ll do a match video when it opens in October
Been to Minnesota. Haven't visited the city. Just the Airport. Would have enjoyed seeing Mall Of America
Just wait as the mall of America is adding a large water park and you didn’t even mention the hotels that are connected to the mall of America.
Yes he did, he specifically mentioned that there are 2 hotels directly connected to it.
