I heard that according to the official Balan lore book, the reason the chess guy lost his mind is because that was supposedly his last chess game… and his wife had cancer… This is not the weirdest part of the book.
To add onto this, as someone who made the questionable choice to buy both the game and the novel, the dude got so obsessed with winning at chess that he basically wasn't there for his terminally ill wife during her last days, and that's why he's so messed up about it in the novel-verse. So that happened! And no, this is not the weirdest part of the book. Balan letting everyone remember Wonderworld and each other made a time loop. I have discussed this extensively with my friend (and hostage) Jun. I have spent far too many hours contemplating this bad, bad fucking game.
To be fair, the lack of real dialogue in the game means it’s all up to interpretation. I think what this guy’s story was meant to be about was a prodigy who let his ego get the best of him, but when he sees someone else developing a passion for chess he begins to sympathize and want to pass on the torch. Instead we get Jawsh with purple hair
Nah, they put all the dialogue in a companion novel so we do actually know. Chess mattered so much to him that he missed his wife's last moments before dying of cancer, and didn't even win the match that he was playing. At the end he let the kid win, to show he's gotten over the obsession.
you know I really wonder what point they did give up. Clearly there was some kind of passion here at some point. Just... Not exactly the best dev team, as the results show. Like they couldnt have rushed this game right? Its not like this is a big franchise that NEEDED to be that years big spring title.
This game is beautiful We have a story about a little girl mourning her cat's death, a child being scared of her friend dolphin because it has almost accidently drown her, a woman losing both of her parents and forgetting how it is to love someone, a hard working farmer losing everything he has worked for essentially going bankrupt And then we have this guy
Tbf once you actually get to know his story, it's still pretty touching. Where he's a great prodigy who gets obsessed with Chess, but then misses his wife's last moments who is dying of cancer, while not even winning the match that caused him to miss it. He then gets over it, and at the end he's actually letting the kid win. Granted though, they kinda failed to communicate that effectively lol.

I love bullying children when I lose once! I may be flying too close to the sun, but at least I'm gatekeeping!
I can’t believe a game with lore such as a little girl and a clown traveling through time and space and end up in a wonderworld,(nice) and meet each other this causing a time loop because the clown became friends with the girl so she applies for the job of the place the clown will work at(the clown is from the future I guess) just so she can meet him again, and gets the job as an actress, which the clown has feelings for but can’t tell her, thus sending him back to wonderland where he meets the little girl again and creates a timeloop, has “Shit I lost at Chess” as a backstory.
Also that same girl is heavily implied to have killed another character’s parents.
@@thomasd3104 I’m sorry but what? I require explanation. I know about the girl who’s parents died but when was it implied that Cass(Little girl) killed her parents? I honestly need to know.
@@Killmerightnow The car crash Cass thought killed her cat is how the parents died, yes.
Your video will make a fine addition to my "UA-cam algorithm strikes again" collection
Played yugioh before and lost once, I absolutely did this 👁👄👁
to be fair some yugioh decks and cards are broken as hell
@@OneNerdyAce you’re fucking right
i just want to have fun in the real game and master duel but everyone just uses the same 1 meta decks that either dont let the opponent play or summon so many time it takes like 15 minutes wish we had a 3 minute max timer with NO PAUSE
@@sundownchild5012 use a kaiju deck, you can have fun AND ruin everyone’s strategy
@@redhood2594 is it expensive and if its yes then no
This is legit how Anime presents a lot of the "Intellectual" activities
"Hmph... He's switching the chord from Minor to Major... He learned well... But he's going to have to do better if he wants to defeat me!" - A real thing that actual pianists say to themselves, legit, no scam.
Alpharad after he won the coin flip against Jaiden
this entire 45 minute video is still worth every second
When the guys eyes go red it gives me "Im tired of being good' energy
i love how the problems range from "a farmer gets his cornfield destroyed" to "a dolphin tries to murder a girl" to "my entire fucking family died" to "i losed at chess once"
"what's up guys, quandale Dingle here."
Bro looks like a Minecraft villager 💀💀💀
Bro looks like quandale
"He lost once so he literally just starts bullying children."
Sounds like Charlie! XD
This will never stop appearing in my home page
It's a shame this is from Balan Wonderworld since graphically this cutscene looks really good.
He lost one game and became the villain to destroy Hyrule.
I know he intentionally let the kids win but your idea is funnier lul
It's like having a bad day until you eat and feel better.
remember if your about to lose use the ballistic Tennison gambit to ensure all of humanity loses
We are so fortunate that GM Vikram Rahul Abishek Pranav Rajesh decided to do a tutorial video on that move!
''He lost once and start bullying children''
Granted I know nothing of the context, but to me it looks like the guy loses, has some kind of existential/self esteem crisis, then meets a child interested in chess, and finds a humbler genuine happiness in introducing the children to chess. Seems pretty wholesome to me.
idk why but im obsessed with this video and keep coming back to rewatch it.
it keeps coming up in the reccomended tab and i just have to watch it, its not a gut buster to me or anything, gets a mild chuckle, idk man
Imagine being such a bad loser that you transform in a monster just bc you lost ONCE
Isn't that literally the plot of an iCarly episode? They beat some chef in a cook off so he starts beating up children in karate
Human squidward
Idk why but some of the balan moments sound like a doofenshmirtz backstory
"BEHOLD PERRY THE PLATYPUS, THE LOSE ONCE AT CHESS-INATOR"
As a chess player, I can confirm I fight my 4 year old cousin and crush him
To be fair history wise it makes sense
He is so cocky about winning all the time that Losing once is enough to make him mald
Honestly, if I were that talented, I wouldn't even care that I lost only once. Now, if it becomes something completely constant, then there's definitely a problem.
An egotist who rages after losing once and only feels better after beating children in a game? Did you mean Seto Kaiba
"he beats a kid in chess so now he feels better"
The "Is that a kid or a lover? God, I hope it's not both" line got me 😂
It's extremely baffling how the cut-scenes in this game explain shit all about the characters and they want you to buy the novel to figure out what the fuck is even going on.
Also the dance sequences. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Women during childbirth get to experience 1% of the pain when losing at chess once.
**looses once in chess**
**beats a child to feel better**
Misha vs Anatoly Karpov flashbacks
Just rewatched the balan wonderla- wonderWORLD video just for content like this
Man.. this game could’ve been good. Adding dialogue, fixing some gameplay and not hiding the best parts of the game behind difficult achievements is all that was needed to make it work
It’s beautiful graphics wise and I’m so mad the rest of the game wasn’t as good as those graphics :(
What is the game name
@@HomemPedido balan wonderworld i believe
It's so cool how even though they couldn't get the league of legends license, they still kept this story line, even if edited heavily
"this guy has watched queen's gambit once and puts grandmaster in his tinder bio" LMAOOOOO
is no one mentioning how he went up against a literal chad
This gives powerful mobile ad *energy*
chess guy *looses once starts bullying children*

A bittersweet tale.
