I mean. The units that need specialized camo get specialized camo. This is better for mass issuing to tons of different jobs that may or may not see action. So a camo that may not do great in all environments but does ok is better then the shit we had before
I've called wild turkey in to 25 yards while wearing Multicam. The turkeys have no idea I am there. I stopped packing the ghille suit because Multicam is so effective. There is no better judge than the wild turkey.
I was messing around in a ravine with a stream in it wearing the shirt, pants, mask, and a boonie hat, sitting completely still. I had a heron land about 3 feet from me trying to find fish in the stream, then about 5 minutes later a bird landed on the brim of my boonie hat. This stuff is crazy effective!
Here's an issue: it's too "flat". It eats light. Until it gets some dust on it, it tends to stand out because it's less reflective than the natural environment. Now, it's not a huge issue in a combat scenario where they WILL get dirty, but when perfectly clean they tend to stand out. That said, it's definitely way better in most uses than UCP. UCP can be made to work, but you basically have to disguise yourself as a rock through scrub brush; it was still better than the garbage Woodland camo that was the staple for decades. Multicam works better in more environments, though, as the name suggests.
Multicam and US woodland are both infinitely better than the ugly and useless UCP camo. Saying UCP is better than Woodland is like saying a toy water gun is better than a real gun for bear defense.
Never thought I would own ACU . I own a full set along with LBV TAP Web gear/pouches. The reason it's history in the GWAT so now for me it has historical value. The same goes for the oober cool ABU tigerstipe with full set of web gear and body armor. Thanks for putting out this info on the OCP . even though I have been into camouflage since the 80s I had no idea this OCP has been in use in some form since the 90s. I was so disinterested during this time dew to the ACU I didn't realize the importance and use of this camouflage pattern which has become the new world wide m81 woodland . There seems to be much to unpack about it . The different makers the scorpion pattern being the same ? Thank you for sharing your research and time about this pattern.
"Crye definitely assisted" ??? Scorpion was Crye's technology and design. They changed a few things to trademark Multicam and a few years later the Army wanted it also for nothing. This is getting wwwwaaay too nerdy so i will shut the fuck up and let Mike make the videos.
Nobody really knows. The Army was in the middle of test trials of several different patterns and had already completed initial testing and had determined which of their test patterns worked well when UCP came out of nowhere (without any testing) and was adopted.
Bit of a curious question here, how have you been able to date these ACUs? I've got several, and I've looked at the DLA tags, but the numbers have seemed misleading. I've heard that the DLA dating system was more or less retired with the BDUs, but if anyone can correct me, I'm all ears
@@MikeB128 All still have the tag complete with the Army logo, best thing I can find is the contract number. One I have here is W911QY-08-D-0010. I'm sure it means something, but not sure what...
@@MikeB128 Didn't they only start issuing OEF-CP uniforms in like, 2010 or late-2009? That's my main confusion, all the ACUs I have here are the ISAF Multicam variants, all issued items complete with Army tags
Multiscam is okay in semi-arid environments but "universal camouflage" is a failure at the conceptual level.
Reversible clothing is probably more useful

There's a reason everyone is using a form of multicam these days.

This shit works good.
Im a big fan of OCP/OEF, it definitely looks and to others works better than the UCP/ACU.
its good but when every t4ct1c4l 0p3r4t0r started using it i kinda got turned off

Multicam tropic looks a lot better imo. I use it for florida.
While not a military pattern, I use that as my go-to as well up here in WI. My favorite woodland pattern.
please keep making videos i love your vids
It's a good camo. The Army should have adopted it back in 2004
Scorpion was around before multicam. Crye definitely assisted but this was before they came out with it. Many people get that fact confused.
K, you should make a video on it then.

Honest question since the UCP was so terrible, how did we end up with it for a few years as a standard uniform? Was it extreme lobbyists?
Not really. Just a lot of "we'll save money doing this, and we'll look "modern"." Stupidity at the highest level.
Nobody really knows. The Army was in the middle of test trials of several different patterns and had already completed initial testing and had determined which of their test patterns worked well when UCP came out of nowhere (without any testing) and was adopted.
So the little square on the left sleeve means it's flame resistant, does it have another purpose?
Mike B...what does "OEF" mean?
Operation Enduring Freedom
Where’s the camo?
