Hi Everyone! Thanks so much for all your comments and help in letting us know what the embroidery stitch that we know in Norwegian as “Klostersøm» is in English. We’ve received many suggestions, mainly Bargello stitch and Gobelin stitch - but a couple of people were able to provide a link that shows that this embroidery is actually something very Norwegian, called Norweave Embroidery and the stitch itself is a Gobelin stitch (upright or straight Gobelin stitch). In case you are interested in reading more about this kind of embroidery, here is the the link. Have a great week! Arne (and Carlos)

Thank you. For this link. Always learning and growing even at 60yrs we keep going.
Yes pattern. I love the design on the pups pillow.
I was right now wondering about the technique and where I would find it explained - thank you for doing my homework! 😄 have a lovely week!
Part of my weekly enjoyment is the surprise topic and then the subsequent joy of reading how everyone in your devoted following agrees with me, My wish list of projects expands with every episode! Thank you. Now I am off to the link to learn more!
Thank you for the link, Arne (and Carlos)! Have a wonderful week and I look forward to next Sunday 😊
Arne, your talent never ceases to amaze me! Bravo!
Your cushions are BEAUTIFUL. I’m in awe of your talents. So inspiring. I just love them all. You two are my favourite men ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Watching this video in 2023 and I see that your cleaning techniques have remained consistent, year to year. Thank you for being true to yourselves.
Those knitted pillows are fabulous!
What a great way to showcase some of your favorite fabrics.❤
Thank you!
Wow! Arne, your creative artistry at such a young age is amazing. You are a natural born artist in the needle crafts. Love the tips, and I have a new appreciation for cushions. I love how they added to the decor and had no idea it was ok to not over stuff them. One reason I didn't add them to my decor. I would love patterns for all of them.❤
Yes a pattern and or video of the pillow would be so nice... they are beautiful
Oh boy! Those last embroidered cushions are magic!
Thank you!
Just gorgeous
This video was a special treat, because while I follow you for knitting, in 1969 I worked as a sales assistant in NYC for Klopman Mills. They were a division of Burlington that sold dress fabric. Part of my job was helping maintain the fabric showroom. I loved seeing the new fabric (on hangers like you mentioned) and when the I pulled the old fabric I could take some home. Put up as 2 x 3 and 4 foot they were perfect for pillows or small projects. I learned to make skirts on the bias to utilize the narrow sample. Luckily mini skirts were in style! Thanks for the reminder!
Love all your pillows!
FYI they sell mesh bags to put your worn fabrics in and then cover to make a dog bed!
You give me the encouragement to live.
Freya looks like the goddess she is ! ❤️
Wonderful Video! We have a few of those long, stylish 1970's 'bell pulls' around---never out of style
I would love to see how you store and organize all your supplies and tools.
Wonderful way to wake up on cold winter mornig ! Thankyou to the three of you, and to the great camera team.
About the "thing" with the bell in : It is a bell cord ( Klokkestreng in Danish). In the old days, wealthy people had a bell cord attached to a bell in the kitchen. When the bell cord was pulled , the bell rang in the kitchen, and a maid would rush to see what was needed .
I like that these pillows are not overly stuffed.
Неповторимо!! Одни шедевры!! Золотые руки!!
I just use one of your teachings Arne, today I had to creating a stitch🙃 with your daughter mother and let's not forget the grandmother legs1🙂 I'm knitting a hat for my son for his birthday and I noticed that I missed a stitch knitting the rim for the Hat I am doing a Purl knit Purl knit and I ended up with two nits on my 4th row I decided to fix it🤔 the way you taught us. Thanks to your teaching I added another Stitch and you can't tell I added a stitch. thank you Arne and Carlos😘🤗🤗🤗
Always makes me smile when I see you guys pop up on my phone!
Beautiful video ! You two have become my very favorite people's ! I appreciate the time and the idea's you share & talk about. You two inspire me ..... my "muses" ! Be waiting for your next posting.
Quite a show! I love making pillows, so it was very enjoyable to see your display.
I want a bed and little nook just like that! Looks so cozy. I agree with many of the other comments, it looks like Bargello. The colors are stunning. Once again, you hit it out of the park with your choice of content for this week's video. Thanks!! 😊❤
Beautiful cushions, particularly the Bargello/tapestry one.
Love all the cushions I’m binging on your old videos stay safe x x
You too Frances!
Maybe someone already said... I think the pillow stitching is just as you say Kloster stitching, part of the Norwegian Hardanger embroidery tradition. Very beautiful!
Love your tapestry cushions the best but all are beautiful!
Love your cushions!!!
The embroidered cushions are gorgeous! Not only a dog needs a pillow but our cat too, she has a few around the house to have a nice sleep.
I loved seeing your cushions. They are so colorful and the nook is so inviting. I have been looking forward to seeing your new videos each Sunday an would enjoy seeing more of your home's interor and how you have personalized it.
Gorgeous work. The colors are amazing. We have come a long way since the 60’s and 70’s with our availability of yarn selections. Actually in everything. Pattern availability, needles. The internet has helped our creativity. And it brought us to you! 🧶❤️
Great display of pillows. I like them all. Thank you.
I was going to say Bargello as well so now I will check out the link. I love the orange tapestry that you said has faded a bit over time, would absolutely like the pattern for that. They are all beautiful though, so colourful. Thank you again for an inspiring podcast, have a fantastic week !
Very pretty. Thanks for showing us your beautiful creations.
Loved all the pillows.....and the different techniques. You guys have a great evening
These Norwegian designs remind me so much of some quilt patterns I have seen online and in some of my books.❤️ Thanks for the link on this embroidery stitch!
You are welcome Lisa.
I really liked the pair of pillows that were knitted. They have amazing designs.
I love the pattern which your puppy has!! 😍 and thank you for inspiring me!!
I love Arnes colorful young project Altho in a polyester yarn, it is MY favorite. I will look for the translation of 70's type embroidery (3 geometric designs).
Enjoy you both SO MUCH 💞
Hey guys! When you say "embroidered", are the stitches done onto a backing fabric? If so, is it a special fabric, as for cross stitch or what type of fabric? Also would like to suggest that you stuff or restuff your pillows with natural fibers such as wool or cotton, so that you are not using plastic stuffing in your beautiful pillows. There are many reasons why this is a superior choice. I didn't think i need to list them for you. Thanks for another inspiring video! ♻🐾💚
Hi both. I have a hard time choosing my favourite cushion because I love them all. They look wonderful together. I would love to make one of the traditional Norwegian embroidered ones. You were obviously quite a talented needlecrafter at a young age Arne but I suppose growing up in a remote farm in the mountains there was not much to do. I, like you Carlos, love when things show the wear and tear of use. I have my mums wooden rolling pin which must be 70 plus years old and many pairs of knitting needles and embroidered table cloths which I cherish. The subject of today’s podcast was a lovely surprise. Can’t wait for next weeks. XAngela
Thank you so much for the inspirational video. As always, I am amazed by your brilliant design skills. Arne, your talent astounds me!
Love, love the tapestry pillows! I would love to learn this technique would you consider making a tutorial and pattern on this? That would be so great-thank you for another awesome video!
Hi Arne & Carlos Thank you for sharing the great cushion ideas. The pillow with the eight points flowers looks much like the quilts the Mennonite or Amish communities make. The black makes a dramatic statement in design and facbrics. See you next week.
Hi my favorite men
Good show today loved the cushions
I am doing diamond painting at the moment as I can use one hand well I have to do some thing I don't like just sitting around plus it is a good excerise .....Bless you both Dolly xx
Yes, patterns please. Another great video, thank you!
I love all of those cushions though the ones you had knitted in the round then cut in half are my favourite, those colours are gorgeous together! 🌹
Great video. Today I was puttering in my studio and pondering making some cushion covers. Ok I am inspired!
Enjoyed the 70s revisited. I need to makes pillows again! Thank you.
Beautiful work! My best friends are getting married this Fall and I've been trying to think of gifts for them, I think a cushion may be a great idea!
Hi Lovely Arne and Carlos always so wonderful to see you both, I really look forward to your Sunday night chats. The cushions are fabulous, you always make everything so interesting and inspiring. No wonder you are both my most favourite designers. Have a fantastic week ahead. Sending you all my love as alwaysxxxxxxx Dorothy 🙋🏻😘❤️🌟
I have known this needlework to be called Bargello. It was ver popular in the 1970's. I made a few projects using this technique when I was a child also. Love your videos!
Thanks for sharing your amazing cushions! You are both so clever! I would be interested in seeing more detail of the lovely bed you are sitting on! I so enjoy your videos!
A blast from the past. My grandmother who lived in Pennsylvania had patchwork pillows with the buttons on the back all through her house. She sewed a lot, and used the scraps for pillows. WOW what a memory you helped me remember, Thank you!!! Also love your socks Arne. Have a great week. Love you both....
Two thumbs up!
Thank you!
What beautiful work! Wow! They look so elegant. Arne are amazing! Your family must have been amazed by your talent as a 12 yr. old. Happy day to you both! You are both so talented!
Love the cushions! Arne can't imagine the work you did on your pillow as a child...wow. They are all so lovely. I have pillows everywhere... The traditional patterns are so special. Freya is such a lucky little girl to have such a fancy bed.
I was so excited to find your book in the library yesterday! Love the pillows.
🌷🌸🌺🌷🌸🌺💐beautiful crochet
Arne and doggie have same hair style. Both are adorable.
remmary 100 😂
Here in the US we call it Tapestry just as you do.
The pillows are beautiful.
Love your little dog's bed pillow... others think they know the name of the stitch, I don't care what you call it, I'd love to learn how to do it, and would gladly buy the pattern. Only recently found your channel, and I'm loving it.
Love, love, love your pillows!
Very beautiful. You are my Sunday morning, here on the west coast of the US, inspiration. Your videos are always so serene and calm. They really put me in a good mood. Thank you.
PLEASE make a cusion pattern book with different techniques! that would be so cool, i've wanted to get into embroidery and crochet forever.
A few years back..I use to make pillows and cushions.
I usually just made patchwork ones..they make wonderful gifts!...
I've made a log cabin quilt too,before.
Thank you for showing your collection..love the knitted ones! Amazing work!
Fabulous video with lots of inspiration - thanks!
Love your nook and gorgeous cushions. Lovely Freya. TFS Hugs Avril xx
Absolutely beautiful cushions. Inspirational. I can’t believe you were only 10-12 years old when you made the tapestry, you very clever man Arne! I would really love you to do a podcast knitting a small cushion in those beautiful colours. Thank you for inviting me again into your home (it feels as if I’m the only one with you both not the other 500,000 people from all over the world) Keep doing these please you really cheer me up on a Sunday. Hello to freja( hope I’ve spelt that right, sorry if I haven’t) lucky girl having that beautiful cushion. Thank you once again . Carlos can’t wait to hear all about your family and younger life. Helen xxxxx
Very much enjoy your videos and listening to your interesting stories and ideas. Thank you both. Wishing you the best of health, happiness and look forward to following two decent, caring and talented friends.

hi I liked your knitted pillows I am still working on my tree of life afghan it is turning out great I got one panel of trees done I have two more panels to do I was thinking I could make a pillow with one of the trees on it just a thought well once again I enjoyed your show I look forward to it every week thanks
Definitely going to seek out more of your pillow patterns.
Never to nice for the fur baby. They deserve the best. My baby has a sheep skin from Ireland that he sleeps on. Loved all the pillows.
Carlos, I so agree with you about appreciating things that are worn, there's a real beauty to them. I love how the edges of old wood will get smooth, almost polished. Things that are worn have a history, they have a story to them. Just lovely! Btw, Arne, we must be close in age, I was a kid in the 70's too. Beautiful work on the pillow you did at a young age. I was interested in doing that at that age too!
I can’t pick a favorite, they’re all perfect!
I am so excited, I came across a book of Scandinavian knitting charts. It will be so much fun
to make a patchwork pillow of the different designs executed in needlework!
.... and thank you for showing! Amazing work... 🌿
Wow wow and wow!! Will watch in detail tomorrow its 1 30am here in India..
Thanks for another interesting and inspirational video, I might have to make some new cushion covers! I am interested in seeing any and all handmade items.
Fantastic, loved this, Thank you so much. I am a cushion fanatic but definitely not shop bought ones, and have a stash of fabric that is waiting to be used and patterns to be done. Very hard to chose a favourite so I will say it is Freya's cushion 💖🐾Oh my goodness I need ten pairs of hands.
Hi Arne and Carlos! :) I LOVE all of the designs shown! I have a ton of cushions around the house but could always add one more lol! There's nothing better than to sit back, relax, get comfortable by propping cushions all around you! It would be wonderful to have a show making one with bits and pieces of yarn such as you have shown. Or, maybe some type of ornament, tapestry to hang. The possibilities are endless. Only limited by your imagination. As always, tyvm for the amazing upload! Have a blessed upcoming week!
Great video. I would love to learn how to make these pillows. Love to knit the last pillows. They are beautiful. I also love the embroidered tapestry pillows.
The patterns are so beautiful. I love the colors too. Thank you for showing.
I definitely need more cushions! ;-) Lots of inspiration here
Thank you Inge.
Thank you for another interesting and ‘coziness-inspiring’ video visit with both of you! A tapestry pattern book would be wonderful!
Inspiring presentation today! I'm a fan of patchwork. Like your ideas of pillow size, use of leftover wool and cotton fabrics, hand sewn and knitted. I'm continually inspired by vintage patterns and techniques from foreign countries. (I'm in the USA) In items shown today, there is so much history, each pillow tells a story, like your experiences in earlier days. Thank you both for sharing your handicraft ideas. You are welcome in my house anytime. Cheers!
I was so interested to see your cushion covers made from fabric samples. In Australia in pioneering days people would use these tailor's samples to make quilts. The quilts were filled with left over flour or grain sacks and were known as Waggas (pronounced Wogga).
Men would make their own from just the sacks to use when droving cattle but women's waggas could have quite fancy patterns made with the wool squares. There are are a number of them held in the National Quilt Registry. As you have said yourself, in textiles everything has probably been done before, somewhere at some time.
That is very interesting!
I think in design these days using traditional pattern used but not a all over design would make it more desirable. Today's decor is more contemporary. Pillows, are a great way to add color and mood to a room.

The embroidered pillows just blow my Arne and Carlos knitted socks off!!!!! The workmanship is amazing. How long does it take to make? Thank-you for being you. I would never have learned or even see these things if it wasn't for you two!!!!
Love, love, love. I also have a day bed filled with handmade cushions. The room is 3 stories up looking out at maple trees that change with the seasons. Now they are without leaves and look like sculptural giants. It's where I read and dream while staring out the windows. I have a pillow top I'm embroidering in a pattern called Moroccan; another one to add to my collection. You're always inspiring. I'd love to know how you get so much done. I've got a pair of socks, a scarf and a hat on my needles, plus my pillow top and an embroidered quilt, but dear boys, you are so prolific. I wish I could finish my projects just like you. Like I said before, love, love, love.
I love your tapestry pillows, esp. the oldest blue/white pillow. Would you do a tutorial on tapestry pillow?
Hello from Tennessee!! I would be delighted to see pillow patterns in your tapestry stitch. I've only done needle point for one footstool so this would be a wonderful new craft for me. Thank you so very much!
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this episode. A kaleidoscope of color. Arne, I do believe you were born with an eye for color and design! Thank you for sharing. You have inspired me to dig around in my box of unfinished objects for a Bargello stitch pillow that I started in the 80's. I am going to add a touch of lurex gold thread here and there to update the design!
Another great podcast! I’m going to try to make the patchwork pillow. I never thought about stuffing them so loosely, but it makes so much sense to make them more comfortable 😊
Beautiful cushions, tapestry stitches, 73 X 69cm for the minute the name of the stitch escapes me! Freya best is tapestry beautiful work, what a lucky Dog, thank you for your video's I have been binge watching my favourite Vikings x
Pillow love -- Of course, sweet Freyja has her own pillow. I'm the one who needs more pillows. I need some of a specific size for my couch. I'm short, and a dear friend is short, and on my couch if I sit with my knees at the edge, I have a gap at my back. I need some nice big, fat pillows for when that friend visits, there's a pillow for me and one for my friend. So many ideas, so little time! Actually, in Gobelin stitch, the straight limb of the stitch is on the underside of the work and the slanted limb of the stitch (the part that shows) is on top of the work. I think it's a variant of Bargello, which is done vertically, with the slanting limb of the stitch on the underside of the work.
Such beautiful pillows! I love them ALL! In USA the tags are called "samples" or "swatches".
What a wonderful show and tell! I would LOVE an embroidery pattern for any of these pillows. I made your needle case and throughly enjoyed creating it. There is an embroidery class at the Nordic Heritage Museum, with a focus on Scandinavian embroidery techniques, that I want to take and this episode is very timely. Much love from Seattle!! ❤️
Love your cushions. The traditional Norwegian deigns are fabulous xxxx
Loved all your pillows and the Log Cabin quilt on your day bed. I have just completed and quilt for my granddaughter and after seeing how lovely your quilt looks, I've decided to make the same with all of the scraps I have left over. Love your podcasts. 🐨🇦🇺🏖
Beautiful pillows! Love the patterns! Can you do an embroidery video? Carlos, I have to disagree about dogs sleeping in the bed. All three of my rescue dogs sleep in the bed with me. They keep me warm and vice versa. But I do have to change the sheets more frequently due to the hair. Its a trade-off. I love them. Thank you for another fun video! Denise from Texas
