The problem with story quests in Genshin Impact

- Story quests are... surprisingly forgettable for being one of the major cornerstones of story content in the game. There's many reasons for this, but unlike in the last video, I'm not calling for their abolition here.

The biggest problem is that Hoyo is completely unable to rewrite generic npc's into main characters. When you get a generic npc that looks like every other npc in the game, it's hard to give them a super glow-up because they get a vision. The flaw ultimately comes down to hoyo being very uncreative with their npcs.
A big example is Rana. An npc that gets a vision, she disappears completely, no glow up, no banner, no growth nothing.
im sad about Rana, she's one of my favourite NPCs
In arknights npc become playable. Hoyo could do this ;(

I love that every story quest changes something in the open world wich are small reminders.
So your main 'point' is the continuity of the story quest compared to the main story and events. Well what you said is mostly true, I don't have much to say to that.
Personaly my main ''complain'' about them will be: will we ever get a part 2 ?
Aside Archons, yoimiya is the only characters with a part 2...
I though Hoyo would have used the ''dead patches'' to keep up with theses stories but no..
And even then, Venti doesnt have a part 2, Only Zhongli, Raiden, Nahida and Yoimiya do
@@conormeade3849 since all other Archons have a part 2 I suspect Venti will have his when a new zone of mondstad will added or something like that.
But with the game constantly adding new characters it's worrisome for the older ones.. Like Jean, keqing... Thoses are 3 years old characters and still nothing xD
My only gripe with story quests is that in order to advance through them, you have to complete however many else BEFORE you can and it also prevents you from playing others. The interlude about the chasm with Xiao and company isn’t available to me because I need to finish both Raidens story and Itto’s, but to unlock Itto must do Kokomi’s. It’s such a tail chase method to essentially force you to consume content and needing to do 2 days of commissions to get one key is a ridiculous sentiment
I literally went through the same thing. Wen u r forced in doing stuff it becomes a chore. Also didn't help the fact that I'm not too fond of char like kokomi 💀

My problem is the continuation of time-locked events. No cinnabar spindle for those who missed it. If you werent playing at the time of the first Fungus event, being able to ask about Twirly Wirly in Layl'as quest makes little to no sense. I am not a day one player. I started at 2.1. When we first see Scaracmouche during the Electro Archon quests, I had no idea who he was or why it was important, but Aether and Paimon sure had a relationship with him and had opnions of him that I myself had not yet been able to make.
Yeah I had the same problem with Fischl as I missed both of the events involving her so I only met her during one of the TCG events but Aether and Paimon acted as if they knew her already.
For me story quests means focusing on the characters they’re about so you get to know about them and incentivize people to pull for them. This is why I don’t like it when the quest focuses on random NPCs while barely telling us about the characters. For example with Ayato, it’s nice seeing the NPCs from the archon quest come back, but we barely know anything about Ayato other than … he’s politically smart I guess. The wedding arc along with most of the NPC plots like the hive in Alhaithams and the Matra in Cyno’s could’ve just been world quests while the story actually focuses on the characters the quest is about. Dehyas story quest did this well as we not only follow up with Dunyarzad but the story is still mainly centered around Dehya and her backstory.
story quest for me least it to give the character some background story on why they are today, and what makes them different from other people and what's their relation with people around them. its usually depends on the character's background story or NPC( for that matter like Nilou's Story Quest) if they have more important clues to the main story.
Archon's story quest is different from other character as they have unique connection to the main story.
im still waiting for a 2nd kazuha story quest where we finally learn more about his dead friend
My breaking point which lead me to not bother story quest anymore was Ayato. I was anticipated that it is mostly around battle strategy or catching a mole but what we get is a plan to make couple marry... I just facepalm then just commit 10000 BPM click to skip it fast.
Takuya's implication that he's still in prison is understandable as he was the one who committed all those crimes and not Itto so on the basis of that Shinobu could easily bael him out
The part about the girl in Nilou's quest is a bit odd I guess as she does appear in Nilou's story teaser too so she technically should be in the open world but it probably has something to do with how Nilou's story quest ended
Jir'yee will probably appear in some Fatui related stuff later
It’s funny, Inayah is the ONLY NPC in Nilou’s story quest that is not in the open world. When I started her story quest and saw Inayah, I knew immediately that quest would be about her, and I was right.
these have nothing to do with the overall arcing story of Genshin. The Story is about the Seelie kingdom and how the calamity is related to the traveller. I just feel like most players have no idea what is happening around them, it is kind of a shame. Genshin has used the same storytelling mechanic as Dark Souls, therefore learning the story is not something you get for free, you can play the entirety of Genshin and have no idea at all, this is true for Dark Souls, Elden RIng as well. It is a mystery fractured into thousands of pieces and in each region you get something resembling a clue.

@@-K423- i was saying this comment seemed ai generated because it didn't make any sense. It feels incomprehensible. There is no mention of a "seelie kingdom" mentioned in the genshin lore and what any of it has to do with dark souls
@@mybeaniebooz9601Genshin’s lore is presented just like how the lore in Dark Souls is: In scattered little bits that you have to go out of your way to find, and then piece together yourself. And Yes there is a Seelie kingdom, I don’t blame you for not knowing about it as it’s one of those aforementioned lore bits that are hidden away.

My biggest problem with sq in genshin rn is that most are locked behind ar40, which makes the timeline kinda weird (like imagine doing childe's quest after the fontaine archon quest, you'd think wtf isnt he in prison?) Also it doesn't make much sense to me why are fhey even locked behind ar i think they should just be locked behind their archon quests instead like hangout events

hello, this is a nice video! i would like to thank you for your sharing your thoughts with your viewers! i understood the points you were making and it was done in such an informative way as well
i'm stuck in a middle ground between agreeing with you and disagreeing with you ahaha
i personally think that the quest-locked NPCs that you mentioned already has served their roles well and would have no purpose other than to add fanservice to people that have done the quest themselves (which is great!)
i've mostly viewed the story quests that are "NPC-focused" exist to show us what the playable character would do in a specific situation and that, in turn, would tell us more about their character..
once the story quest ends, the NPC has served their purpose, and i'm fine with it! they don't need to overstay their welcome further
though i can also agree with you that fleshing out these NPCs can be such a good worldbuilding tool within the game
i would also like for them to continue how they format the story quests, served in an open world format where you can just tackle them whenever you want, but fix the issues that future content would produce (i didn't know that Itto's stort quest wasn't included in Quick Start was for Irodori, that's such an oversight)

They really went with quantity over quality with story quests. Imo there are too many. We should have gotten continuations of some instead of one for each 5 star. Yeah where’s the Gliding Championship? Where’s Ludi Harpastm? Where’s Takuya?
Also I feel like story quests take away the possibility of more interesting voiced non-archon quests. They put all of their effort into making story quests each version instead of making more interlude archon quests or just some side stories involving multiple playable characters. Wait they do actually make those but they are all limited time events 😑

My problem is is that they are too long I don’t even know what’s really going on in the story because I just skipped the dialogue. I’m not trying to read all that shit.

So, this game puts so many unnecesary dialogues to tell story and we Have Elden Ring giving you the control of it, you go and investigate by yourself and there is almost no unskipable text or unnecesary locks and that game has a GOTY and one of the best stories? how?

I'm genuinely curious why they picked exactly Yoimiya to have a 2nd quest besides archons. It wasn't even that special, it was just a date
I do like how Yoimiya was one of the few characters to express interest in the Traveler as a person and checked on how they were doing. A lot of the more intimate lines from other characters only exist in the lines for each character which people can miss if they don’t have them or have them and don’t play them.
All story quests that don't give me prymogems will not be conpleted. They are a waste od time and lifespannof my mouse with how mich I have to spam click only to get through then.
