Ragnar's death is so tragic and to add insult to injury, Aethelwald moved away his sword, depriving him of the chance to go to Valhalla. So ragnar died with no honor. So sad..
I'm glad Thyra told Uhtred she's still her brother. Ragnar died before Uhtred and him could reconcile, but I'm sure in Ragnar's heart Uhtred was always going to be his brother. He just said that out of anger. Uhtred will always be a Ragnarsson and young Ragnar always be his brother.
Also, Ragnar wasnt cheating technically. He was trying to make heirs, and since Brida couldn't have kids he had to find options. And I'm pretty sure it was agreed upon by Brida, although probably a bit reluctantly since of course she loves him. But she understood that he needed heirs. Idk it was a sticky situation in any case.
I like how Alfred basically without saying it admits to Edward that he hates being king too but it is their duty and Edward needs to understand that their duty to the kingdom outweighs any dreams or goals they have. You can tell Alfred does not wish to torment his son but a dying king can't have a reckless heir. He needs to guide his son in the right direction so that when Alfred is gone, Edward can be ready to lead the kingdom forward.
Man so much happened in this episode lol

Seem's that the fate's are not as forgiving as Brida was. And Ragnar had lost his prime motivation, he was marching south to destroy Alfred and the Kingdom of Wessex, he was marching with men he did not like or respect, against his brother. The rift between Brida and Ragnar was that Brida, in her need to be a Dane, became Dane first in all things, Ragnar like Uthred saw that the Danes and Anglo Saxons would have to learn to coexist and become one people, that was Alfred's vision one people.

Ragnar was too weak, after being stabbed several times, to fight back. He was reaching for the sword so he would die with a weapon in his hands to get to Valhalla. In knocking the sword out of reach, Aetholwold denied him that.

The thing to remember is that Sears in the Viking culture are like priests. They consult the will of the Gods, and use the magic of Freya who supposedly brought magic to the Gods. Everyone is afraid of her because she seems to be a very powerful Priestess similar to the reverence shown to a bishop or cardinal in the Christian church. And scades Powers seem to actually be true, whereas Abbas Sear was not really a seer but a con artist

The seers in these series definitely have powers and are capable of placing curses on people, remember when Skade made Uhtred ill? Then he instantly recovered once Brida set out objects that would block her curse :)

Was hoping they would mention Ragnar was reaching for his blade to get into Valhalla, and Aethelwold knew the relevance but was so fearful he took the sword out of reach. Like I only felt really sad at that part, the writers did well to fill develop his character before his death. NOT LIKE ERIK AND SIGFRIED, who had so much more development and growing to do, more sad about their death, but atleast theirs was satisfying, Ragnars was realistic but Soooooooooo unsatisfactory.

This is one of the Episodes where I HEAVILY Disagreed with Uthred's Decision Making.
The Saxons betrayed him and yet after all the times he'd 'betrayed' his brother, Ragnar still took him in with open arms. Uthred should've joined Raganr and marched with him to take out the Saxons who'd up until then had shown him nothing but disrespect and ungratefulness bar a few. Taking Wessex for Ragnar is what he should've done and he was in the wrong for leaving him

I always find it interesting observing people who watch The Last Kingdom first before Vikings and see how they won't have as much of a reaction to the death of Ragnar. Yeah, it sucks, but The Last Kingdom story isn't centered around the Ragnar legacy as much as it is in Vikings. People who watch Vikings first, will always get to this point and be shocked and speechless. Like how the hell can a Ragnarsson go out like that. Although I knew of Ragnar prior to watching any show; I had watched The Last Kingdom first. So when I saw this scene, I was a little shocked, but not that emotionally overwhelmed by it. Later when I watched Vikings, I felt I was taken down a path where I glorified the Ragnar legend and almost felt like he was godlike. Just an observation. Loved the Reaction you two! As always, thanks for sharing the video with us! :)

I only watched The Last kingdom and I was devastated when he died ! Even if he wasn't the main character he was just so charismatic and I loved his relationship with Uthred. And it's also the WAY he dies : without honor, without a weapon in his hand and being mad at Uthred, without ever knowing that Uthred made the oath to protect him... so sad and frustrating !!

@@SissouLoveVideo If the show was able to make that kind of connection with you (in part to Ragnar) then that is awesome! I guess on my end, although i had known about the Ragnar legacy, it didn't really drag me in to his character as much from the start. So i wasn't as emotionally affected. I was early on when Father Ragnar died in season 1. Probably because i was expecting something bigger then. After I realized that we were going to be with Uthred more through the show, and that Ragnarsson was more of a side character, it didn't really hold as much for me. I absolutely loved The Last Kindom though for the story and the characters of Uthred, Alfred the Great, and i really loved Ethelfled :) Vikings is a magestic and visual spectacle while i felt the Last Kingdom had a little more Story-felt quality involved. Loved both shows for what they are.

@@jcarbajal7348 Yes I get your point, I am actually planning on watching Vikings too (I just begun season 1). I must say, after watching The Last Kingdom I have read some of the books too and in it Uthred's connection to his viking family is well more developed, not so much with young Ragnar but with his father ( and in the books there is an other brother too but he dies). The thing is, in the books you spend a lot of time on his childhood so you are more attached to the vikings and you get why he is so conflicted better than in the show in my opinion.
