I'm supposed to graduate with a BA Honours degree in English in a month now. I cannot help but notice how my university has chucked out the extensive study of the History of English Literature. I personally believe that greater number of students will now ignore the importance of knowing the literary ages and go on looking for guide books and answers for the texts. What do you think about it ma'am? Is this an appropriate way of studying literature?
C.U has tried to bring in some element through the historical study of genres paperwise. WBSU is wiser since the entire first sem is dedicated only to history of lit
@NibblePop Yes ma'am, you're absolutely right. Also, the paper they are focusing on is poetry and forms of poetry, and they have excluded Old English verses, Middle English poetry, Chaucer!! Even worse, they've left out the Greco-Roman classics!!
Yes ma'am, this is such a short and fragile concept that students will get and then they would have to face the difficulties. If the brick layer of the students is not well founded , it's actually going to trouble the students. I am going to appear for second sem, and from now only I can feel the significance of reading history of english literature..
Burdwan university also didn't include it in their first sem and one of my friends is now regretting it .
