    You have totally sold me on not getting one. I think you are spot on with your utilization of it. Can you imagine a couple of dudes trying to carjack Gerwich and he pops out with his trusty Galil and starts going to town? I think there would be blood and piss everywhere.
    Great content.

    I'm always stoked for Galil content. "For me, the action is the juice." Classic Firearms had surplus Galil mags available for $12.95 a pop a few months back. Haven't had any issues with the ones I've taken out of the packaging. Unfortunately their supply has run dry😢.

    Nice review and I just had to laugh when you mentioned how the top cover is generally loose but it can be tightened up by banging on it with a hammer. How right you are, but with my Century Golani it was the opposite problem.
    As a former IDF infantryman, I took the top cover on and off day in and day out for eight years from 1986-1994 with ease, because it was an IMI product.
    When I purchased my Golani rifle in 2012 I was shocked that I couldn't get the top cover off. I literally had to use a rubber mallet to get it off and back on again. No matter, I had to send it off to Jeff at Hillbilly Arms for other issues as well, such as the bolt staying back when cocked. Gee, I had no idea they built a "bolt hold-open" into the Golani! (sarcasm intended)😉😡😡😡😤😤

    • @cmdrcriton
      @cmdrcriton 3 місяці тому

      All ak based rifles will hold back the bolt when new unless you cock hard and fast. After a break in period it smooths out.....

    • @s.marcus3669
      @s.marcus3669 3 місяці тому

      @@cmdrcriton Perhaps all AK CLONED rifles might do that but not an IMI Galil. In my 2.5 years of draftee service in the IDF I was lucky enough to be issued twice with factory-new rifles (not refurbished) and they, or any of the others both in draftee and later reserve duty, had ANY issues of ANY kind. They all ran like a proverbial sewing machine.

    Awesome video as usual 👍I kinda wish they had chrome lined barrels, but like you mentioned it's really a 40 year old collectors item that takes proprietary magazines without current factory production, not a go to war/ choose just one for the apocalypse rifle, so getting the cost down is honestly more important for what this rifle actually is... But I still want one... I should've bought an SAR parts/builders kit for pretty cheap back when they first came in, but I like to save money by not buying unnecessary things only to buy literally the exact same item years later for way more money... Which I'll probably do yet again 🤣👍

    I got one in February, it’s really cool yet it has a few issues like in the video. I had the firing pin break after a few mags in. Found a new bolt overall since the original had some heavy wear on it. Trigger slap was remedied by getting a original trigger, now no slap and it shoots so smooth. I have a BFPU version as well and it eats anything I’ve given it. It’s a bummer I had to do some work, yet it’s a BFPU, I was expecting that. Biggest thing is that it’s Maryland legal. Very happy I can get it other than another HBAR AR. Great review overall.

    • @GSwithHO
      @GSwithHO 4 місяці тому +1

      Funnily enough, I also bought one of these rifles in early February and also had the firing pin break following a rifle match (~12 magazines). Once I got it replaced I stuck a KNS piston on it and dialed it way down just like Jeff had to, which has alleviated the slap with the trigger that was supplied with it.

    If you want to go all out, Jeff Miller of Hillbilly Firearms is the best of the best as far as dedicated Galil builders go. His work is exceptional and I own an ARM by him and he's building my SAR as of me typing this comment! For how much you'd spend on one of these Southern Tactical carbines is how much you'll spend on Jeff Miller's service, so roughly $1,200 on top of buying yourself a kit and a Tortort receiver, it's about a $2,200 investment minimum. Also, there's a handful of Tru-Glow Galil night-sights floating around out there with a little bit of glow left to 'em if you want to track a set of those down, can confirm that they work and look good on the gun!

  • @gabrielpark8910
    @gabrielpark8910 4 місяці тому +1

    my southern tactical was pretty bad when i got it, and not issues with the parts kit they used but the qc from when they assembled it, stuff was loose and the trigger slap was insane that i couldn't even shoot it and it made me wonder if they even test fired it before sending it to me because who in their right mind would think that amount of trigger slap was good to go to sell, i decided to just get rid of it instead of sending it back to them because if they can't build it right the first time I don't know if I can trust them to touch it again or trust that there won't be further issues with it later on like headspacing. very dissapointed in it but I have heard a few of them that others got have been decent. I recommend galil's they are rugged and fun but I do not recommend southern tactical. I ended up getting the Ikon weapons micro galil and that thing shoots amazing and is very well built but sadly that company is now out of business so if you can find one in stock you should get it

    I'm a LH shooter (yes, I admit it), so my only issue is the safety selector on the grip. I have a few Galil ACE Gen 2s and, to fire, the safety selector is pushed forward. It's nice to push the selector forward with the largest knuckle on my left index finger. On the old Galils it looks like the safety selector is pulled back to fire. Maybe that's a small issue, but I would think it would get detrimentally confusing.

      @@ModernTacticalShooting It's funny, I'm left-eye dominant and a full righty shooter. BUT...for long gun I force my right eye and slightly squint my left. Just the way I'm used to shooting since childhood. But compared to others, I shoot long gun on 'weak side'/left shoulder well because then I switch to an eye that's already dominant whereas others you can see struggling with an eye they almost never use to aim.
      Sometimes in multigun there's a quick moment of adjustment but mainly when going from long gun to pistol rather than other way around. Was that why you shoot left shoulder long gun or is that 'natural' from the start? I've toyed with just going left shoulder on long gun, or forcing right eye dominance for pistol for consistency...but never committed.
