    Thank you! Finally someone who understands you really can’t fairly compare two different types of hair/material. I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve watched a video and the “show” was a synthetic. Okay rant over
    Now, for an actual question. How do you know that Tom Ford and Sonia G are fude? What distinguishes the difference between a fude brush and regular expensive makeup brush (ie Mac, Charlotte Tilbury, Burberry, etc) ? Good Info and definitely enjoying your channel!!!

    • @FluffyFude
      @FluffyFude  5 років тому +7

      I am so glad to hear you are enjoying!! I have pinned this comment because I feel it is such a good question. Everyone is welcomed to share their thoughts and we can have a discussion on this topic!
      "Fude" simply means "brush" in Japanese, most commonly used for calligraphy brushes but also includes the subcategory of makeup brushes. Personally, I have 3 criteria to classify as "fude", the first is mandatory, the other 2 are flexible and I think will differ from person to person. 1). Handmade by artisans, this is crucial and eliminates all mass produced/machine made brushes; 2). Made in Japan (usually in the town of Kumano which is regarded as the brush capital of Japan), but I understand amazing brushes are made in other countries too, I just don't think we would normally refer to these are fude; and 3). Uses natural fibers - again, there are some brushes that meet #1&2 and are even made by the traditional Japanese manufactures but I just don't think synthetic fibers truly represent the fude experience as well as natural bristles. #3 is a tough call but I want to include it because I don't think there is a big difference between synthetic fude brushes and good brushes from say Sephora & Ulta.
      So to finally answer your question, lol, Sonia G meets all 3 of the above. It is widely speculated that Hakuhodo made Tom Ford & Mac brushes before they switched over to synthetic and Charlotte Tilbury, Burberry, Bobbi Brown, Smith Brushes, are not handmade by skilled artisans and would not classify as fude.

    • @KendraMorgan
      @KendraMorgan 5 років тому +3

      My first ever pin!!! Yay!!! The criteria seem to make sense now. I could tell that Hakuhodo and Chikuhodo were fude but didn’t understand why! I own Mac and asked for some Smith Cosmetics for Christmas. I’m interested you bring up Hakuhodo private labeling for Mac and Tom Ford. My understanding is that Anisa International private labels for Sephora Pro, Bobbi Brown, Make-up Forever, and a few others I’ve forgotten off the top of my head. And I’ve heard they took over for Mac which is why the switch to synthetic and the very different shapes for the brushes

    • @FluffyFude
      @FluffyFude  4 роки тому

      Hello, sorry for the delay. I wanted to check the brushes in person since I didn't remember the exact differences. I prefer the worker 3 because it is more densely packed and feels less flexible than the worker Pro. The Worker 3 has a thicker width ferrule, I would say even almost twice as dense which I find to be more unique for shader/blender type brushes and I find work better for packing on pigment. Thank you for watching!

    Really excited to see your top 5. Since I’m always looking for eye brushes that can fill a void in my collection, I’m trying to only purchase individual brushes. I’m considering the Builder Pro for the almond shape, but already have WG Eye Set (2nd release). In your opinion, would there be any overlapping function/performance with any in the WG set? I have mature/hooded lids and my crease is no longer visible if I don’t create one. Thanks!

    • @FluffyFude
      @FluffyFude  5 років тому +3

      Thank you, Sheila! I think it is a great idea to purchase brushes individually and get only the ones that fill gaps in your collection. Sorry it took a while for me to reply, I wanted to look into it some. Please take it with a grain of salt because I do not own the WG Eye set, but I have looked at the brush descriptions and pictures. I think the closets to the Builder Pro in that set would be the #18. However, I do think they are quite different brushes and would have different uses. The pointed almond shape allows for a lot of precision - so you can use this brush to pack on colors, add extra pigment where you need it, inner corner, outer V, etc. I see the WG brushes more as brushes for blending & diffusing looks, but the SG Builder Pro is not a blending brush and works best for packing on the color & shimmers. I hope that helps some!

      Fluffy Fude Thank you for taking the time to make the comparisons. Because of how you thoroughly describe/review brushes, I felt certain you would take a close look before responding. As someone who is relatively new to Fude, I’m truly enjoying your channel and content. As for the WG brushes, you’re right, they are excellent brushes for placement & blending. I bought the SG Builder One to pack on color, but it’s too small and takes too long. So maybe the Builder Pro will do the trick. Thanks again and I’ll be watching for your review of the Sky Eye Set🌺

      @@sheilaking Thank you!! 🥰 I am always happy to help to if I can. I feel similar about the Builder One, and think the Builder Pro is a better alternative to the Builder One. Thank you again and take care ❤️

    Will you be doing a review of the Sonia G Sky Eye Set? How do the Sonia G brushes compare to the Hakuhodo brushes? Which eye brushes would you recommend for small hooded mature eyes?

    • @FluffyFude
      @FluffyFude  5 років тому +4

      Hi - thank you for watching and commenting! ❤️ I apologize that I can't be more helpful right now as I am still unsure if I will pick up the Sky Eye Set. I am hoping to see a few more reviews before I decided. I would however recommend Mel Thompson's review and comparisons video, I found it very helpful. In the future, I will make sure to do a video on favorites brushes for smaller/hooded/mature eyes too!
      In general, I find Sonia G brushes to be of equal or greater quality than Hakuhodo brushes in terms of the bristles, and greater quality and presentation in terms of the handles. The only exception to this is the Hakuhodo S Series - the ones with the red & 24k gold plated handles. S series brushes are absolutely stunning, but in my experiences much more expensive and fragile (For example the Sonia G Face Pro is $85, the Haku S Series equivalent is the S531 and costs $138 +$9 shipping, I have both and both function the same). That last thing to note is that I am making this comparison for goat bristle brushes only, since Sonia doesn't currently offer any squirrel brushes, if you are looking squirrel / other hair types you can't go wrong with Haku / Chikuhodo.

      Hi Wendy, thank you for watching and commenting. This is a great question. I do have the builder 1 and actually don't love it. I find the ferrule near the top to be too big and hard to use when you are trying to get in the inner corner of the eye/ work in small areas. Hi! Yes I would recommend her pro eye set even if you already have rephr and hakuhodo brushes because some of the brushes are shapes that were very thought out by Sonia and have become staples for me. Well I actually don't think you need the whole set, I would look to see which ones you would use more based on what you already have and what you use most but all of the brushes from the pro set I can recommend. Also I find my Sonia pro eye brushes to be softer than Rephr and depending on the Haku brush can be softer than Haku to. That's just my experience, I have never had a SG brush that wasn't soft enough but I cant say the same about Rephr or Haku. The best from the set for me are the Builder Pro, Blender and Worker. I had the exact same question, so I reached out to beutylish about it, and this is what they replied:
      "The difference between the two is Smudger Two is thinner and more precise than Smudger One. If you're wanting to smudge out eyeliner and keep it fairly close to the line, I would go with Smudger Two. If you would like something a bit thicker to not only smudge out eyeliner but also shadow on the lower lash line, I would go with Smudger One. With the Smudger Two, I'm also able to apply powder close to the lash line in lieu of using eyeliner. The choice between the two brushes depends on how precise you would like application to be and what you're wanting to use the brush for."

To answer your question, I believe people collect handmade brushes because they find them beautiful and helpful as makeup tools. While you can get lucky and purchase a brush that later becomes limited edition / rare/ valuable, I don't personally see them as investment peices in the sense that you could resell them later on for a profit. Perhaps this is possible for the more rare hair types as they become even more expensive, but I think most collectors buy them first and foremost for themselves and for their personal enjoyment :) Thanks again for watching!!
