I have this scope --- and it is a BEAST! Their stuff is just first class and works! I also run a 7 X 35 ATACR (6.5 Surgeon in a Cadex Defence Dual Strike chassis).... awesome stuff!!
Got one last week, only done some ladder testing yet tho. The glass is good and really like the turrets. Got this one for a good price used with a spuhr mount, otherwise i would have gone for something else. Pretty much agree on this review, which is the best on the beast so far.
That’s my fav scope in MOA. I would love that on my custom rem 700 .308 but I work for a living and that price is outrageous so I went with the razor 5-20 which is a great scope with tons of elevation for that cartridge. Great video. Always enjoy watching them that’ll you
The "advantage" of being able to 'twist' the whole ocular housing for magnification adjustment is you'll assume that when you see a Leupold owner turning his or her "ocular housing" you'll assume they're faking it and trying to be like you instead of adjusting the FOCUS on their "optic'.
4K i'm out .. not in my price range .. nice scope good features ,.. awesome review .. does the parallax adjustment help for shooters that have 20/20 vision at distance but cant see crap up close ? .. i'm going on 52 and i can't see crap up close , need 2.00 reading glasses .. i got one old scope where i can adjust the cross hairs to be clear and then adjust the object lens to to target ..
Where did they put the kitchen sink? I have no doubt that it is an amazing scope, but there is just too much going on with that elevation turret for my taste.
The idea of the +1 seems to be geared toward the near-OCD guys........me. My M24 (Army) had the 1moa elevation and 1/2moa windage adjustments..........irked the hell out of me after growing up with paper-punching with simple 1/4moa adjustments......but the coarse adjustments made sense. I bought a simple USO ST-10 with those M24 adjustments cut in half for 1/2moa elevation and 1/4moa windage.......LOVE IT!!!
Dam, that top elevation turret is complicated! My initial feeling is I wouldn't want it. Precision shooting is complicated enough. Eager to watch your videos on the other Nightforce scopes.
I agree that windage knob is awesome, hopefully it makes it to the F1/ATACR series some day. Always considered the B.E.A.S.T. something like the X-type jets the Air Force and NASA built, push the boundary and try new things that hopefully make their way into the standard offerings. If I shot ELR this scope would be up there on the list, that's a ton of adjustment.
If I remember correctly the ATACR 4-16 has the button turrets on both windage and elevation, which is great as long as you don't need the extra magnification.
Great review John, I'm interested in a review of Nightforce F1/ATACR 7x-35x-56mm. Have you had a chance to check out the King of 2 miles match? There was a company that David Tubbs was using called TACOMHQ that he was using on his rifle. It is called Charlie Tarac and it is an optical accessory that adds 10 to 120+ MILs to scopes without ever having to change your your rails, rings, cheek piece, or 100 yard zero. They also have an Alpha Tarac than is an AR pop-up with a 1.25" diameter lens that compensates for bullet drop (aka dope) through the use of lenses. The Alpha is ideal for Aimpoints and 1-6x scopes. The Alpha Tarac is an AR pop-up with a 1.25" diameter lens that compensates for bullet drop (aka dope) through the use of lenses. The Alpha is ideal for Aimpoints and 1-6x scopes. Please educate me. Why is that scope mounts a mile high w/the objective so far away from the barrel. In comparison to Leupold dovetail mounts flush to the receiver... I was taught the latter of the two 50 years ago. That rifle is very easy to look at. Quite nice 👍.
WAY too busy & pricey for me... almost $4300 at OpticsPlanet. You can damn near pick up a Razor HD2 AND a Tactical Elite ERS for the price of this thing.
I knew it once but I've forgotten. What is that two round card just beside the action? It's the tan nylon and I've noticed a lot of competition shooters use it.....
Oh John if I only had 3GS for glass laying around lol . I did however drop a G on the new Leopold VxI 5-20x50 FFP yesterday ( really clear glass for PP) & dropped it on my Seekins SP10 6.5 creed. Can't wait to get this puppy out .
The turret just seems like a fanboy dream, somewhat. Locking mechanism is designed silly. The +0.1Mil lever is odd. Just keep the clicks 0.1Mil on the turret. Windage seems clever, I guess.
Then you buy the ATACR f1. the locking elevation turret i see as pretty much useless but i do like 0.2mil clicks due to the 20 mil in one revolution, which would be pretty shitty with 0.1 mil clicks i bet. The +.01 mil fine adjustment takes some learning, find it mostly annoying so won't be using that, instead i'll go high on target depending on range in PRS matches. the lock on the windage adjustment is nice tho.
Another awesome review. I'm looking at buying a new scope in the future, i currently have a gen 1 vortex pst 4-16. These are the scopes i have been considering and their prices in Australia. Kahles K624i $3400 Nightforce ATACR $3280 Steiner T5xi 5-25 $2800 Schimdt & Bender PMii 5-25 $3500 What would you recommend with having experience with at least the first two suggestions. Thanks.
Phillip Mullner check out the Minox zp5. Tons of people selling all the scopes you mentioned for it. I have one and it's no doubt the best glass my eyes have ever seen. Adjustment is perfect, and it's built tough. The t series Steiners aren't in the same class as the other scopes you listed. Their military scopes are world class though
trijigon thanks for the reply mate. just had a look then and only one place in Australia sells them and they are charging $4800 which is pretty far above my budget haha.
I had a Kahles 624i and sold it to try a ATACR with the new Mil-C reticle...I really like the ATACR, but I prefer the Kahles. The S&B is considered the standard, but I would lean Kahles still.
Phillip Mullner The kahles are great if you get a good one. They have great features and awesome glass. Unfortunately they seem to be having a good bit of qc issues. I work for a shop that stocks them we've sent 4 back to Austria this year, including my k312i. I've never had any trouble with the nightforce scopes I own. Glass isn't as good but mechanically have been perfect. With that said ill be picking up a pmii with the lrr reticle for a build that's getting finished up.
The Gen 3 K624i uses a new erector set which is close to perfect, if not always perfect. The previous gen and every other scope in their lineup used the old erector set that was notorious for tracking issues. They are very popular scopes in PRS. I have two NF scopes now, and still miss my Kahles.
I noticed that when you were talking about magnification you used the term "intermediate level scopes" I noticed that this scope has a high price tag would you consider it an intermediate level scope or do you think it's an actual top tier 1 optic being on par with S&B, hensoldt, etc....
Haven't had a chance to test if it holds zero, but mounts just fine and has nice clear glass. Centered vertically true to a plumb line with the crosshairs which is always a plus! It's a great ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope. There's no parallax adjustment or focus ring, so may be limited to 3-7x, have to see how it is on the range. Also be aware that the rings are "look through" so you can still use irons, but they are really tall if you only intend to use the optics. On a 22LR no biggie since I'm not shooting competitions or worried about a hard cheek press. Will boresight and range test, if all goes well, I'll leave it at that!
Alex Ervin not answering for him, but mounts are generally used over rings for 3 reasons. 1- more built in elevation, 2- a one piece mount is less likely to have the chance of each ring being misaligned, 3- easier to switch between rifles and return to zero. However, modern rings have gotten pretty good so those aren't really issues anymore besides no.1. Some say the one piece allows the scope to react more consistently during recoil. That's not true.
.2 "mil" per click? You mean I can get "down" to .720" POI shift per click with my "high-end" optic at 100 yards? WOW! That's WAY MORE THAN THE .250" POI shift per click I get with my 1/4 MOA "clicks" and WAY WAY MORE THAN THE .125" POI shift per click possible with 1/8 MOA "clicks" available on LOTS of non-"high-end" optics if "high-end" is defined as "NightForce".

I leave the name and details of the scope out because they are tough to get and I don't want anybody scooping me on it. haha This just seemed like a lot of unnecessary extra crap. I'd rather just have 1/10th on the knob.

That elevation turret is more like a design exercise than a useful feature. No other scope company has adopted anything else like it for a reason.
I have this scope --- and it is a BEAST! Their stuff is just first class and works! I also run a 7 X 35 ATACR (6.5 Surgeon in a Cadex Defence Dual Strike chassis).... awesome stuff!!

I doubt the i4F will end up on the ATACR since the ATACR is basically a BEAST with a standard turret. That accounts for the price difference.

Awesome video, can I ask why you chose a cantilever mount for your set of rings?
In this instance, it was what we had on hand. With a chassis system, it doesn’t require the lowest scope mount.
what bullet and grain? no feeding issues from the p-mags/AI mag? I'm wanting to get a krg xray and barrel swap to 260. thanks again. intro rocks!
