      You mention a microwave (always a good idea for travelers who might not want to eat out) but unless you put it underneath in a cupboard, it may look quite crowded. You may consider putting the toaster in a cupboard as well, allowing the guest to bring it out if needed rather than cluttering up the counter. LOVE that there is a kettle (for tea or coffee). Everything turned out so lovely! Have you considered offering prints of your house sign? That was AMAZING and I would buy one even though I live in the states. ❤ (Or maybe a postcard or coaster?) Well done!

      In addition to places of general interest and the necessities of life, why not add a short history of the house and its name. Some may not be interested, but many will be .... just like those of us who enjoy your vlogs. In addition, once people feel an emotional connection to the house they will automatically take better care of it during their stay. Win! Win! Good luck with your venture. The little flies from the potted plants are probably fungus gnats. There are various ways (see online) to address those, but I think you are right in taking your plants out. As for your AirBNB tiny house, do add a small microwave. It is inexpensive and your renters will be grateful.

    • @michellemcclintock135

      Yes when you get those bugs only water from bottom. Usually hard get rid of those gnats (their eggs are on top of dirt).

  • @jflowj
    @jflowj 7 місяців тому +130

    As a horticulturalist, the flies can be remedied by switching out your soil and getting some plant food. The bugs are attracted to plants that are unhealthy and in some form of decline. Swapping out your soil, cleaning your pots (bleach depending on how bad the situation is) and adding a slow release food - follow the directions on the package. A quick fix is to sprinkle cinnamon over the soil. It’s not toxic for you or the plants and the bugs dont like it.

      'Mosquito Dunks' or 'Mosquito Bits', put them in the water overnight in your watering can, you can them out in the morning and let them dry out to use a few more times. Water your plants thoroughly, making sure to cover the entire surface of the soil. It harms no living things except for destroying mosquitoe and fungus gnat larvae. Use the yellow stickers for plants to catch the adults. Repeat for the next couple waterings to ensure you get all the eggs and larvae.

    • @sovboph1050
      @sovboph1050 6 місяців тому +2

      If you have fungus gnats, you watered your plants too much. Just water a bit less or only bottom water your plants, than your fly problem will improve. Otherwise they will come back even if you switch out the soil

    Hi George and Junior. You've been on my mind as of late !! Yes a microwave might be a good addition. Some people might not want to cook outright, but toss a meal in the microwave for a quick meal, and get out the door to enjoy the area. Anything to simplify a clients stay and experience. And maybe some items that might come in handy, (i.e. binoculars, umbrellas, rain slicks) you get the idea. It would behoove you to add those little things (also a full bathroom suite basket with Q-tips, cotton balls, band aids, soap and shampoo etc.) the goal here is to make staying there simple. I've seen this done on a handful of cottage flips here in Canada, where cottages are flipped and put on the rental markets in Cottage Country around Ontario and Quebec. If you add these little things, a little above and beyond other rentals, your location becomes a higher grade of stay and location according to the little perks you add for your guests.

    The house looks great, good luck to you (and your mum)!
    I haven't looked it up, so I don't know what the food/supermarket situation is in the village the house is at. I would consider this when you put things in the kitchen, like do they need to cook every day cause there are no restaurants? The pots and pans etc need to fit accordingly.
    And then you need to decide, or know, what kind of guests you will host. Like is it outdoorsy people? Just for business in the area? People passing through? Etc. That will also decide the kind of stuff you need in the kitchen (and house).
    Most important is how clean the house is. And the stuff in it, especially cutlery and such.

    • @s0846856

      Okay, I had to check the link 😎 (as a family of four, we wouldn't fit your house) and I have one more suggestion: tell the guests what kind of coffee machine you have. I would prefer one of those machines that you put in beans and water and the machine makes you coffee. We've spent some time in a few places and we never knew what kind of coffee machine there will be. And unfortunately, they always had those fancy machines where you have to buy very expensive cups for or a Senseo, which just doesn't make good coffee.

    It's lovely and your Mom is correct. You need a microwave or your Mom will be getting phone calls asking about where you keep it. I suggest the smallest one you can find that will fit a dinner plate inside. Or one you can attach to the underside of the cabinet.
    The Vellux shades and window closing device is genius. I hope that put your mind at ease.
    I think you should charge more but you know better what the cost should be for your area.
    Good luck and pat Junior for me.

    Love the houses name, very sweet. From an American perspective.... Microwave while on vaca is probably necessary but it doesn't have to be a big one... just to reheat leftovers or a cup of water. While I own a kettle most Americans don't. If you think you'll get a lot of us from the US then a small coffee pot or Keurig type machine might be good.... again not something I use but everyone I know has some type of coffee set up.... even just a French press would be nice. I think the price sound reasonable and fair, good luck and I hope it's a great success!

    Morning George, That's a nice touch naming your house after your grans.
    I would say, yes to a small microwave, it would be handy come winter, heating up the odd haggis pie.
    I totally get your worry over the windows, im always saying to the husband, have you shut that window.
    The hills etc outside look stunning, I bet you have already got bookings.
    Good luck George, cheers Millysue

    The most important thing in an Airbnb for me is the cleanliness. The pictures are awsome on the website but sometimes you arrive to the place and it smells bad in the shower. Also, I stayed in one place and the sofa had a hole in it. No one mentionned it before the stay. So I worried about it because I didn't want the owner to think it is my fault.

    I had those exact rain sensor velux windows and can confirm, as I lived in rainy Cumbria at the time, they worked like a charm!! Also, if any of it stops working, replacing the control battery is the first (and usually only) port of call for fixing it!

    Yes, on the microwave, a breakfast station has become popular lately. I would also scotch guard spray all the cushions, accent pillows and fabric that might get stains. Leaving a few local or regional magazines highlighting the local interests is a nice touch. A front door mat for both outside and inside if you don't already have that covered, it will help considerably with keeping your flooring nice long-term.

    Wonderful :)
    I would probably suggest to try to anchor the TV, either to the wall, or to the cabinet below it... not because of stealing, but it looks a bit unstable and easy to overturn when passing nearby (talking from the point of view of a very clumsy person... I once closed a jar with jam without noticing a part of my sleeve got "locked" into it and I almost killed myself when I raised up my arm to fix my hair :D I suppose I'm not the only one this much gifted :D )

    Canadian here. I bought my first microwave in 1984 and have had one in the kitchen of all the places I've lived in since. I do a lot of traveling throughout North America and microwaves are everywhere. If your potential clients are from North America, a microwave is almost an essential.

    Looks great! I think I'd be a bit surprised if a place I stayed didn't have a microwave so I'd consider adding one. Doesn't need to be anything fancy just a cheap one, and you could perhaps shove it in one of the cupboards so people can get it out if they need to use it but it doesn't clutter your kitchen.

    I've seen some other UA-camrs that keep a lot of plants say that it's necessary to change the soil/repot every so often to prevent those flies you mentioned from appearing or coming back in their own plants. Maybe that can help you too? I'm a total plant noob so I could be wrong, but it's a random piece of info that's always stuck with me lol!

    The place looks amazing! I personally would use a microwave at an air bnb but would say its not a make or break - also would be great if somewhere down the line you could make it so the minimum number of nights is 1 or 2 rather than 3 as this I feel like would be a great place as a stop off area for a bike packing trip!

    Love the attention to detail you show for your houses and your videos. Personally I find it important that bedroom curtains/blinds provide a complete black-out, as I like it completely dark. This is not always easy to find on airbnb and also that information is often missing in the description.
