Hi I am 64! First I love Ireland and have been there 3 times but more importantly everyone has different life experiences. It took me until my 50’s to finally stop comparing what I had or hadn’t done compared to others! It seems to me you are doing you great!!!🎉🎉🎉
Much as I like old stonework, you made a good decision to render the front. It looks great! Dealing with water intrusion and drainage is vital to protect the work you've been doing inside the house and prevent mold. The new desk is clever!
First choice would always be to preserve the stonework, but it was a pretty horrible mismatch that wouldn't have looked good when repointed. Totally agree on the drainage point! And it is indeed, very pleased with it. :)
My cats would like me to comment for Junior that the desk box was awesome. They are currently fighting over who should get in the Christmas tree box that I've just opened up to get the Christmas tree out for this year.
I had a flexible desk years ago at my job as a telephone triage and disease management nurse. I loved the ability to stand when I wanted. Mine was not as lovely as yours!
Thanks Sandy! Yeah I didn't think it would've looked too nice having a big gap at the bottom. Keeping it in one piece means my cat won't be able to slip under it if she ever gets out as well.
I had a discussion with a friend this weekend. How sad it is, that it's always just about money, which is why we build mostly new stuff and let old houses rot away. Here where i live in germany, there are soooo many old houses who are beautiful, but they are mostly so old and rotted that it would be expensive to renovate them xx. I imagined how our housing-situation would look when our world wouldn't circle arund money and we could just renovate all these old houses. So seeing you, putting so much money and effort into renovating old houses is such a nice thing to see :).
Totally agree! Wish the government would offer more help to save old buildings, but it's kinda been the opposite in my experience! Lots of costs and red tape that you have to navigate to actually get the work done which is a bit of a pity.
Glad you kept the gate. It's pretty and sturdy. The end of the house looks nice and finished. I can see that Junior approves of the new desk, give her a pat for me.
As heartbreaking as it is to cover lovely old stone, I think it was the only choice you could make, George. And it looks really good, especially with the new caps on the roof. So good that you got all the leakage issues resolved. You are doing a wonderful job with your new home. Fun to see you and Junior riding your desk like an elevator! LOL It looks like a great desk. ♥
@@jj-if6it right, but what if.. you bought it with that intent and then realistically that was not possible. Any one can tell you what you get and what you THINK you get when buying an old home never match.
Oh George, you are quite the jokester. I was actually laughing out loud with your cute one liners. Love watching these renovations and excited to see the final product. xx
I don’t know. I failed Biology. Always make me laugh. Good to see updates. I’m curious to see how you hide the light strip or if you replace it. Cool desk, everything is coming along nicely and your own home improvement work will serve you well.
Very cool vlog to see the "repairs" to the house. I don't mind the dark mortar at all (which is surprising!) on the gate lock. You are very lucky to have such great trade professionals at hand. Merry Christmas George!
I think you took the right decision on the strong but less attractive cement. Always go for function over form. It's very nice to have things looking pretty, we all enjoy that, but first they have to work! LOL Oh, and by the way, I like seeing the dots in the kitchen lighting, myself. Finally, Junior looks like she's settled in really well, and I love the marble in the kitchen. So good to see you getting settled in.
Thank you! And it's just a tiny little patch of cement as well so hopefully it'll weather and blend in a bit with time. Glad you like the lights and the marble (it's not actually marble though haha... just 'luxury laminate' but glad I've fooled ya!). And yeah she seems quite happy hanging out at my parents' house for now. :)
Glad you bought a microwave. I use mine a lot - for cooking, reheating, defrosting - your guests will be happy you did as well. Love seeing your beautiful cat 🐱
People who work in construction are very handy to have around! And then there's George who is so appealing! I love how your brain works. I smiled at the end when you sat on your new adjustable height desk and watched you and the desk go up.
Always happy to see one of your videos pop up. Junior is such apretty cat 🐈 so well proportioned, especially her tail. Roof line & gate look great, as well as desk. Until next time 👋
Yes. I suffer with the leg/back thing when sitting too long too and have that rising desk in both the office and and home. Works wonders. Thought though we were getting a crossed legged second George Calming channel with 30 minutes of George and junior going up and down on the desk! House is coming on well!! Won't feel long before it's done I'm sure!
It's definitely making a difference so far! Haha I'll note that second channel down as a potential idea. Cheers! I'm keen to get the rest of it all caught up now.
Hey George, at least you're able to some good workers to get your houses up to snuff! The gate to your place just gives it that extra touch which makes you feel like you're entering a majestic garden. All in all, your new home is just about finished. Even though you might say you don't know what you're talking about, as far as the homebuilding goes, you know more than the majority of people George.🎉😊
You are a true JOY to me. I think your house is looking better than I ever thought it could. Thanks for the update, and I'm glad it is all coming together so well. It's going to be worth millions some day. Peace Out.
For the LED strips, a nice way to hide them and not have them shine in your eyes is to get a narrow strip of wood, put the LED strip on the back side of it, effectively making a light bar. You can go a step further and put a plastic diffuser over the LEDs to even out the light so you can't see individual bulbs. Finally, fasten the wood to the underside of your upper cabinets using screws, double sided tape, or even strong magnets. I'd recommend trying the magnets first since it makes getting at the strip easier, not to mention cleaning if anything splatters up there from the stove.
The back of your house looks lovely. The edge of the roof looks great. Proper drainage at the back will be an improvement for you in the long term, too. Junior loved your new desk!
I converted an old desk to a standing desk with a Flexispot mechanism a couple of years ago, has been very reliable since and great to be able to change from sitting to standing so easily, especially if stuck in multi-hour meetings!
i really enjoy your construction-type videos. i don't think i'll ever get to have the joys and pains of house ownership, but i still like learning about what a house needs.
Nice work. I’ve been busy with my small townhome here in the Philippines. Almost done and ready for the big reveal. I am basically going from a minimalist lifestyle to very much the opposite. ❤ Looking forward to your next video. ❤
Aw cool, I'm sure that's been a cool experience! Can totally relate to the minimal to maximum pipeline... would quite like to do something similar with whatever project comes next! Pink kitchen etc. 😸
For the kitchen light strip issue, add a small strip of wood to the bottom edge of the front of the cabinets above the stove. Literally 3 or so cm bigger than the light strip. It hides it and has the added bonus of acting as task lighting when you cook.
Hey George! I am so happy to hear in your voice that you are doing well! It is awesome to see your accomplishments and your kitties. To hide the lights; simply cut a one and one half to two inch strip of wood that is the length of your cabinet. Attach with "L" brackets every two feet with either one quarter inch screws or you can use adhesive. Always pre-drill a hole smaller than the screw or if using glue, go minimal, do not use too much and be sure to wipe clean immediately. Thank you and God bless you and your family!
Hey, George - hope you are well. I really like the outdoor lighting on the other house. Looks nice. I've been looking for a light strip for my kitchen - and I'm not finding it on Amazon. I think the lights in your kitchen look good. Cheers!
Glad you like the outdoor lights! And the light strip is the 'Philips Hue' light strip. Had them at both places and they're great. Hope you manage to find them.
Thanks for the update video. Great work on the roof and wall. Good idea about reversing the gate and for resetting the latch. I look forward to your progress. I have several hue lamps and strips and am very happy with them.
It's great to see you getting more involved in the hands on work. As someone who's done a lot of DIY and is currently busy with a self-build renovation, I'd highly recommend that you get some workwear to keep your day-to-day clothes nice. I've also had a FlexiSpot for a few years and I'm a big fan and at 65kg I'm also well within the weight limit!
Awesome always, you should check out the Govee Neon strip lights for under your cabinets. That will eliminate the dotted look from the LEDs that you are looking for while also providing the color and brightness option you are looking for!
Hey George, for the lights on your kitchen you can get an LED light diffuser. Its like a piece of see through plastic that goes on the lights to cover them, but its fogged so it gives the appearance of one solid strip of light rather than individual LED bulbs.
Ideally I'd like to post every Sunday, but things have just been a little bit out of whack recently with the move and not having a place to film/edit the videos. That's sorted now though, so I'll get back to a more regular schedule. :)

It's really nice, George! I hope you're enjoying getting your new place fitted out to your liking. I love that window seat in the room you're working in, I've always wanted that and have never had one. Thanks for the update, see you next time! 🇨🇦
I always look forward to your videos, I like your calming voice and your way of explaining things. I hope your are good, and know there are lots of people who care for you, in good and bad times :) Sending you lots of warmth :)
Nice to hear of you fixing the drainage problem that caused flooding at your neighbours. My landlord (that is actually a cooperative and you would think they are nicer people than landlords that look after profit) ripped out walls in the apartment below me. As a result my floor sank and I have gaps of 1 to 2 cm now between walls and floors. I called them, their caretaker arrived and yelled *at me*' for 15 minutes. That bunch of bunglars caused the problem, although I warned them that I had a bad feeling that the floor will sink if they rip out certain walls and they still blame me for it and do NOTHING except trying to fill the gaps. My floor is now like in a 500 year old cottage and for days I feared my floor would just collapse. ☠
Hi George I have been watching your videos and am really impressed with the work you have done on both buildings. I also have mental health issues etc. and am astounded at your steadfastness and commitment in what you do. Thank you.
Hi George, l wanted to let you know (if l knew how to do it privately, l would) what a difference you just made to my mental health. I've been feeling quite depressed (life long condition) and unable to shift it, scrolling yt your vids came up, I've just watched what l've missed, a dozen or so and blow me down...I'm buoyed up so much. Your new cottage is looking amazing! Love & hugs to you & Junior from Australia 🇦🇺
The place is really coming together. Can’t wait to see more. One thing came to mind watching this. Did the roofers forget this detail or have you waited for the final piece to be made to order? It seems a long time to wait for the roof to be finished and you’ve obviously had the inconvenience of water ingress.
I am glad that the flooding issue is fixed. Sorry that it created other issues, but at least they were able to be fixed. I do like the new look of the wall that they put the cement on to help stop the flooding.
I love your videos. Your voice is calming and your accent is nice to hear, as well. Of course, I also love tiny houses. (Which is funny because I live in a 6,000 square foot home. 😂) it served us well as we raised five kiddos, but now it is just a big hotel for the kids and their friends whenever they come to visit. Anyway, I think you're doing great with all your hard work! Best wishes!
Ah, the pain - I mean JOY - of home ownership. I've had the flat part of my roof re-done 3 times in 11 years! There's a lot to be said for apartment living! Regards from Indiana!
We bought an custom artist home built in 1993. Original builder after 6 years never moved in. From all observations the 2nd owner did nothing. So 26 years later we bought it. Strangely some things not to building code and we live in California with the strictest because of earthquakes but they are quick to add compliance or ADA and all that. Bathroom wasnt useble as stoilet to close to a not usable spa tub too big for space and giant tile surround I had to dust. We gutted that. But for some reason the metal guard, a mini version of what you put in but goes under last row of composite time and over the facia boards to protect from extra rain run off was not there. We added it with new roof. Many facia boards needed replaced. Some were fixed with bondo. Also in a hotter area its amazing how many dont drain off their swamp coolers. Just let the condensation pipe leak all over roof? Fortunately that repair was done inside of garage but in long run we decided to remove entire plywood base for the roof. And yes it went on and on. You cant see all in the walk through and even though an inspection some things are just not required to be looked at. Like propane leaks. We hedged all bets. Replaced water heater right away. Propane tank pipes had a years long leak only realized when plumb trees (non fruiting type) got giant sores on trunk after planted. Went with a different company because the other one HAD to know we were paying for 4 times the gas needed?? I searched all over and found an EPA report....our toxic waste agency....that had them using hydrogen peroxide in a toxic lake. Searched more and saw they spray on ground too. I already knew you can compost bad land in a few years into good land. But large toxic spills you have to netralize. What it does is make the soil aerobic again. It goes anaerobic from the toxin....meaning no microbic life. So I made a solution about half and half at first. Put it on the plumb trees every month and they came back! You'd never know now. We also have sandy soil in high desert and I use it first planting trees even with amendments to give it a boost. Sorry Im an info person. So like to share things I learned to fix problems.
You can get the LED lights that fit in a diffuser strip, and they don't give you that 'individual' light flare that you have at the moment. Nice job on the exterior.
I see the issue with the lighting strip, different to mine, bottom edge of your wall cabinet doors end flush with the cupboard base, my 1000 mm double door unit has matching plinths top bottom and sides, that frame the whole unit, and allow a discrete semi conspicuous location to fit work top lights, for my units compact slim fluorescents.
Yeah that's exactly it! It did actually come with plinths (didn't know that was the word, ha!) to go under the cabinets, but they have to stop in front of the extractor fan which means there would be a big space in the middle which the lights couldn't attach to. I'm sure I'll figure out some sort of solution though.
Yay!!! Love all the changes and additions. Definitely made the roof more “Classy!” You really do have amazing professionals. Great desk and really impressive design. Loved the video, as ever - love listening to you and adore seeing JUNIOR!!! Look forward to seeing and hearing you and Junior, next time. Blessings, 🐾💜🙋♀️Christine.
There are always tough decisions to make when restoring/refurbishing a property. While the stonework is beautiful, I feel it's more important to have a house that is weather tight and will still be habitable for future generations. The house is looking lovely.
There goes Dr Patchy with his sidekick/henchcat Junior slowly disappearing up out of shot to their secret laboratory to hatch more nefarious schemes. 007 will never find them up there!! 😅
Glad to hear that the flooding issue was relatively minor and easily fixed. I am really liking that new desk of yours. I will have to investigate that further. Thank you for sharing your world. Give Joonya pets for me please? See you in the next one.

Looks like you are on your way to lovely house number 2 ❤ well done to you 😊
I really enjoy your videos. They are informative, interesting, calming, and presented in such a pleasant tone of voice.
Cheers Jack! That's very kind of you to say and much appreciated.
That mountain in the back is really beautiful, especially with the mist. Makes me really nostalgic for the time I lived in Scotland.
A great deal of fun as usual, Patchy. Have yourself a Happy Christmas.
I am glad that the flooding issue is fixed. Sorry that it created other issues, but at least they were able to be fixed.
I do like the new look of the wall that they put the cement on to help stop the flooding.
It all looks so good, great job!! Love your kitty.
Thank you! 😊
Gee George...
That gate works both ways... You can go through it walking up AND walking down the steps.
Wow, multi functionality!!!!
A true feat of engineering 😸
I love your videos. Your voice is calming and your accent is nice to hear, as well. Of course, I also love tiny houses. (Which is funny because I live in a 6,000 square foot home. 😂) it served us well as we raised five kiddos, but now it is just a big hotel for the kids and their friends whenever they come to visit.
Anyway, I think you're doing great with all your hard work! Best wishes!
You can use a diffusing runway strip for the LED lights!
Get some diffuser brackets for the LED lights, should be able to clip them on top!
Ah, the pain - I mean JOY - of home ownership. I've had the flat part of my roof re-done 3 times in 11 years! There's a lot to be said for apartment living! Regards from Indiana!
In America what you call a crest, we call a peak. Houses are a lot of work, aren’t they? Your desk looks great!
A bit of masonary paint on the dark cement will blend it in better . If you are feeling artistic use two or three colours and a sponge to apply 👌
Every time I see Junior I melt!! She is so darn CUTE! ❤❤❤❤
Hi George, you could get a diffuser for the leds, they can even come in a 1/4 of a circle shape which would fit perfectly in that upper corner.
Thank you, George! I love your understated presentation! And both of your houses are beautiful!
Thank you! 🤠
Aww, how nice of you to buy a box for the kitties. Oh, and handy it came with such a nice desk inside.😊
everything you did due to the flooding made everything look better from my point of veiw :)
You can get the LED lights that fit in a diffuser strip, and they don't give you that 'individual' light flare that you have at the moment. Nice job on the exterior.
Good repair & prevention work, that end elevation was certainly exposed to prevailing wind, storms and driving rain.
Always love watching you being a homeowver. Truly inspirational. Your voice is so soothing too. Please always make these sort of videos.
Thanks so much, George! The gate looks great, and so does the desk
There goes Dr Patchy with his sidekick/henchcat Junior slowly disappearing up out of shot to their secret laboratory to hatch more nefarious schemes. 007 will never find them up there!! 😅
It’s so cute to hear you narrate the renovation process and then just giving up explaining 😂
You need a diffuser strip for the LEDs
I love the stone work and how it has so much character. I love your content.
“The crest of the roof? I don’t know, I failed Biology.” 😂
🤠
Glad to hear that the flooding issue was relatively minor and easily fixed. I am really liking that new desk of yours. I will have to investigate that further. Thank you for sharing your world. Give Joonya pets for me please? See you in the next one.
if I order a flexispot desk, does the orange cat come with it ?
Oh, I see you listened to Mom and your subscribers about the microwave....LOL!
I think you can put on a diffuser over the led strip, that makes it better :) Its just a plastic strip that you put over :)
could you just use a diffuser strip cover to camoflage the individual led's??
Beautiful gate area
FlexiSpot desk looks amazing! I wish this would have been available years ago when I was working 80+ hours a week in Silicon Valley!
So glad to see the build progress. ...best wishes from Millport.
also if you run out of things to post, then im open for more videos of you baking, its always cosy!
