I've already learned about wheel arrangements from my Dad. Among the wheel arrangements you've covered, are the 0-6-0 Jinty 3F side tank engine, the 0-4-2 Auto Side Tank Engine and the Small and Large Prairie 2-6-2 side tank engines. Thomas and Percy from Thomas & Friends are also worthy of a mention. Thomas is based on the long-forgotten E2 0-6-0 Side Tank Engine, and Percy is an 0-4-0 Saddle Tank Engine, with a bunker at the back of his cab. I have an 0-4-0 W4 Peckett Saddle Tank Engine in ghostly grey livery, although her dome is brass. She's had her first run with my pair of HAA Hopper Wagons and a light grey LNER Guard's Van at the back. Beware of the Ghost Train.
The LNER J94 saddle tanks were an austerity design build between 1944 and 1946 and withdrawn from service between 1959 and 1967. IIRC Dapol made a model of them.
Arrows pointing to where the water tanks are would be very helpful for a novice or even for the various parts you are talking about ! My wife and I enjoy your live streams....and thank you Dave
The first problem with tank engines is that as they worked they became lighter and their adhesive force reduced. The next major problem is that they all, apart from the well tank designs, had worse visibility when running boiler first than the equivalent tender engine.
The pannier tank is the greatest locomotive i just love the 57xx version especially. I’m always down the SVR to see the preserved one
So interesting Dave! I'm learning more about the various locos from you than from all my trips to preserved railways around the country combined!

I think the GWR 72xx 2-8-2T has the edge over the LNWR 'Beames Tank' 0-8-4T on size and power.
why is there a GNR N7 in the intro picture
im thinking of remaking percy the small engine with a 0-4-0 saddle tank do u know a good model to use for him
