    Don't forget that in O Gauge, Bachmann Brassworks produced models of Classes 03, 04 and 08 long before Heljan and Dapol released their versions (originally the Brassworks models were available between 1998 and 2003 and were all brass construction, but none had any interior cab detail fitted).
    Another shunter available in kit form from Judith Edge kits in both 4mm and 7mm is one built by Ruston and Hornsby in 1956. You should know that guys as you only recently sold me a pre-owned kit-built model of this 'Class' a couple of weeks ago! They are known colloquially as Class DY5 or Class D1/3 and fitted in between a Class 01 and Class 02 in terms of output power, which was 153hp. Only one of the locomotives survived into BR TOPS era but under private ownership when C.F. Booths in Rotherham purchased it in 1968 for their own works. The 2 locomotives were number 11507 / D 2957 (scrapped in August 1967) and 11508 / D 2958 (scrapped in October 1984). D 2958 survived in C.F. Booth ownership for 16 years as their own yard shunter but even those notorious scrap merchants weren't beyond scrapping their own in-house locomotive fleet, it eventually being cut-up and replaced by a more modern locomotive.     Loved the class 07 Southhampton Docks Shunters. A Rushton Hornsby classic, a gem and I was lucky enough to see all of them working! They came in late all 14 of them in 1962 ; 275 bhp, very underated and much loved.

    Dave well done video love the way you are educating modellers. Political machinations caused certain aspects of the BR modernisation plan to be manipulated. A great example of this and which may now seem baffling to railway
    modellers was the compromise in production to keep localities and existing
    manufactures in work. This was brought about at the expense of the obvious cost
    efficiency of standardisation. We must be aware that the development in diesel
    technology was very much in its early stages and these manufacturers were in a
    state of constant learning. The awarding of contacts was an attempt to keep
    established locomotive firms and their localities alive, hence the involvement
    of: Barclay, Drewry, Hudswell Clarke, Hunslet, North British, Ruston &
    Hornsby,Yorkshire Engine Co. Unfortunately we now have no means to educate and
    train the youth of today with similar well established firms.

    A tiny green Ruston Shunter (now named Rusty) has wormed his way into Cat Valley Steam Railway territory. A BR Blue-with-wasp-stripes 03 shunter, in Kelly's Kept Cabinet (Chester Model Shop status), is under the watchful gaze of Paul Boyland. I did look for the slightly larger BR Blue 04, but that wasn't available. The 03 will suffice. I do believe Rusty Ruston in Army Green livery (his boastful nickname is Pumping Iron) is my favourite diesel shunter of all. Don't blame me for this diversion of favouritism, Sam's Trains is the one who twisted my arm into buying the tiny little devil. He's tinier than Tiny Terrier Tank Engine Leadenhall.

    Hi Dave very interesting video enjoyed it very much, nice to get a small history and look at what's available. I have a nice little fleet of shunters including my Hattons 07, and I bought x4 class 08s to convert to 2 class 13; Hattons preowned is a very helpful way to get locomotives at a reasonableprice. There is a conversion kit you can buy to make the slave's cab end. Anyway well done

    Can never understand why the manufactures never produce more smaller shunters, especially in O Gauge, as not many people have large layouts to run their stock.
    Also, Hornby have come on strong in recent years, would have thought they`d have had a go in O Gauge, their sentinel looks good in OO.

    The class 11 smaller wheeled predecessor of the 08 was also used on the 5 ft 3 in gauge Australian Victorian Railways as the F class from 1951 to 1987 . More details in Wikipedia :
