What a great season. Probably one of the best, if not the best in recent memory. This was a top notch year for movies, one of the best BP lineup and what a tough competition in most categories. I fear next year or two are going to pale in comparison
My Predictions are: Blitz, Sing Sing, Dune 2, Gladiator 2, Joker 2, Wicked, Conclave, and The Piano Lessons for best picture. And acting noms for all those movies. Joyce and her straight face, girl show some e,Orion pls 🥴🥴
I could see the Apprentice going either way. I really don’t see people embracing/wanting to sit through that film regardless of how the election turns out. Although a film being controversial/insufferable has never stopped the academy before.
I wouldn’t put that much stock in Kinds of Kindness. Name like one time the Oscars have nominated an anthology film. There’s stuff like Traffic which jumps around between perspectives, but I’ve never seen a case of something fully non linear film getting into best picture. That and the June release date does not make it seem like Yorgos is trying for Oscars with this one.
If you're predicting Emmanuelle in Picture and Merlant in Actress, surely you'd consider Naomi Watts for Supporting Actress? She's obviously the biggest name involved, and will have a prominent role.
If The Apprentice wants to be considered a serious contender, Stan's performance has to be different than the comedic caricature of him we've seen lately. It needs to feel like a real person. If they do that, they will nail it and could be an actual thing during awards season.
Well, obviously. It's a drama directed by Ali Abassi, whose films are all very dark, it's obviously not even remotely going to be a comedy, and is showing a young Trump and how he became who he is, and mostly focus on his relationship with Roy Cohn, as seen in the title and the film's description as a "mentor-protege story" and a story about power and corruption.
There were rumors a few weeks back saying Gladiator 2 has to be in the top five highest grossing R rated movies ever to break even. God knows if true but I don’t think it’ll get nominated for picture.
I don’t think it’s a good idea for Anyone to pay attention to The Apprentice. I hate bio pics on people who aren’t even dead…. Also the Oscar’s would do right by giving homage to a younger acting pool to keep its relevancy so I hope dune does get nominated for acting awards.
given that so much stuff is delayed, I think the only locks are: Dune Part 2 and Sing Sing Hundreds of beavers, a little canadian indie is also a possibility. Other than that it reduces to blockbusters/autumn releases/festival upcoming movies
If you haven't seen it already, John Mulaney and Nick Kroll hosted the Independent Spirit Awards back in 2017 and 2018. Their monologues got lots of love from the audience and they were able to improvise as well. I think having the duo of them together could make for a really fun ceremony! And if you're worried about them not doing bits, you should see clips from their Broadway show hahaha.
One day, they will ask Patton Oswalt to host the Oscars. The man loves cinema. He would be funny and passionate about film. Right now, we're all eager to see John Mulaney. I just hope Patton gets his chance.
I don't understand how you don't have Horizon: An American Saga in Best Picture. I have it at number one. The trailer looks incredible and it could be a shoe-in for so many nominations. I think they might actually do one big cut of the two parts and do a qualifying run, then submit the full two-part cut.
FYI: Hit Man is adapted, not original. It's based on an article from Texas Monthly. (Same magazine/author that the film Bernie was based on!) Also, I'm already hopedicting Joan Chen but I don't see Didi being competitive in screenplay.
I would also watch out for Challengers particularly Zendaya to get award season buzz The Piano Lesson should be a contender and Netflix should put its money behind it, with Brooks, Hawkins, Jackson and Washington you have three younger actors that could get recognized and Jackson who has been working hard to finally get a fighting chance to be apart of award season.
I predict Dune Pt. 2 WILL get at least one acting nom. Will that person win? Probably not, but theres a lot of good/great performances that I feel AT LEAST one will get in
Very off topic, but I need to mention it to my favorite experts. Even though there was no *NSYNC Oscar’s performance… did you see the clips of their reunion last night?! 🤯
THey aren't going to change the title of The Apprentice, and they shouldn't. It's a great title. Both an ironic reference to Trump's later reality show, and also the fact that he was Roy Cohn's apprentice, which is what the movie seems to mostly be about.
only dune actor I could see getting nominated is timothee. and that’s only if this movie carries the momentum it has right now. butler just seems too far out of reach in terms of what they nominate.
It’s a clickbait movie. I saw it early and found it incredibly boring. It’s only getting a bit of hype online because it’s an election year and people love chaos for some reason. 🙄
Best Picture: DUNE II, Sing Sing, Blitz, The Outrun, Didi, Challengers, His Three Daughters, A Real Pain, Emmanuelle, & Queer Best Director: DUNE II, Sing Sing, Blitz, The Outrun, Didi Best Actress: Saoirse Ronan (Blitz), Angelina Jolie (Maria), Zendaya (Challengers), Noemie Merlant (Emmanuelle), Florence Pugh (We Live in Time) Best Actor: Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Timothee Chalamet (DUNE II), Cillian Murphy (Small Things Like These), Andre Holland (The Actor), & Andrew Garfield (We Live in Time) Best Supporting Actress: Joan Chen (Didi), Rebecca Ferguson (DUNE II), Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson), Hong Chau (Kinds of Kindness), & Maria Bakalova (The Apprentice) Best Supporting Actor: Samuel L. Jackson (The Piano Lesson), Javier Bardem (DUNE II), Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), Paul Raci (Sing Sing), & Clarence Maclin (Sing Sing)
Chris’s enthusiasm and Joyce’s facial expressions make my day
I started laughing when Joyce laughed in Chris's face at his "I did put in Gladiator 2."
Ditto.
imagine Emma giving Andrew an Oscar, insane moment for crazy ppl
Imagine Cillian giving Saoirse her Oscar. That would be an iconic Irish moment.
REAL PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN GOD
Love how quick you guys are! I love this!
omg so happy for the new season! excited to follow a new race without being too invested like with Cillian/Nolan/Oppenheimer )))
What a great season. Probably one of the best, if not the best in recent memory. This was a top notch year for movies, one of the best BP lineup and what a tough competition in most categories.
I fear next year or two are going to pale in comparison
It’s crazy to think so many other contenders moved to this year because of the strike.
We Live in Time comes out January 16, they’re gonna need to move up the release date if it’s an awards thing
That's probably the release date for wide release (aka, the flyover). I'm sure it will have an Oscar-qualifying run in select areas.
I could see the Apprentice going either way. I really don’t see people embracing/wanting to sit through that film regardless of how the election turns out. Although a film being controversial/insufferable has never stopped the academy before.

Having seen trailer now, I think Joker is likely taking it all
Hi Chris, Noemi Merlant was also my favorite supporting actress in Tar; glad to know she’s getting more roles!
Have you seen Portrait of a Lady on Fire? She was incredible in that! One of my favorite performances in years
Yes, she was amazing in Portrait of a Lady on Fire!
NO BREAKS! love the early predictions
If you're predicting Emmanuelle in Picture and Merlant in Actress, surely you'd consider Naomi Watts for Supporting Actress? She's obviously the biggest name involved, and will have a prominent role.
I had thought of her for sure, but I went with Qualley just because of the Yorgos of it all.
Watch out for Jacques Audiard's Emilia Perez
It's always one or two movies from Cannes getting oscar nominations.
If The Apprentice wants to be considered a serious contender, Stan's performance has to be different than the comedic caricature of him we've seen lately. It needs to feel like a real person. If they do that, they will nail it and could be an actual thing during awards season.
so he needs to play trump as a real person and not like alec baldwin on snl
Well, obviously. I'm going all in for Kieran Culkin
If lady gaga hit it right out the park the oscar is hers
Love this!
I agree with Joyce, I’d predict Denzel Washington over Joseph Quinn for Gladiator 2…
With both The Apprentice and A Different Man, Sébastien Stan is coming for that Oscar next year.
Not sure about winning it, but it sure increases his chances of being nominated.
Just the thing to cure my post-oscar blues 😊
Conclave, film of Edward Berger. may be a great movie, leading role by Ralph Fiennes.
Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump, not Ivanka

Christopher, what do you play on that Switch back there?
Could someone list out every single prediction from Joyce and Christopher ?
I don't understand how you don't have Horizon: An American Saga in Best Picture. I have it at number one. The trailer looks incredible and it could be a shoe-in for so many nominations. You're right! I mostly just wanted to mention Hit Man lol.
My wild prediction 😊
Gladiator 2 & Dune 2 will receive most Oscar nominations next year 💯
I would also watch out for Challengers particularly Zendaya to get award season buzz
The Piano Lesson should be a contender and Netflix should put its money behind it, with Brooks, Hawkins, Jackson and Washington you have three younger actors that could get recognized and Jackson who has been working hard to finally get a fighting chance to be apart of award season.
I am keeping Jackson number one for supporting actor unless the film is just not good
Challengers might just not be the kind of movie you know
I can’t wait to see Angelina Jolie performance in Maria I just know it’s gonna be amazing
I really hope Elizabeth Olsen gets nominated in the supporting category for His Three Daughters
I have hope for Javier in Dune lol
Lady gaga 🎉
Love the show! Rooting for Dune 2!
I predict Dune Pt. 2 WILL get at least one acting nom. Will that person win? Probably not, but theres a lot of good/great performances that I feel AT LEAST one will get in
Im all for Sébastien Stan winning an Oscar this year
Very off topic, but I need to mention it to my favorite experts.

DUNE PART 2 !!!!!!!
Nuremberg Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon and Rami Malek
only dune actor I could see getting nominated is timothee. and that’s only if this movie carries the momentum it has right now. butler just seems too far out of reach in terms of what they nominate.
No Civil War in BP? So it's not the right kind of critically acclaimed?
It’s a clickbait movie. I saw it early and found it incredibly boring. It’s only getting a bit of hype online because it’s an election year and people love chaos for some reason. 🙄
LOVE! Xxx

What’s the purpose of doing these predictions anyway? Just copy the BAFTA and call it a day.
Like the movies, these podcasts have been going over two hours. A lean 90 minutes would be nice!
I'd be fine if they pulled a Marty tbh. Three hours or bust. 😂
@@KaiOpaka If the Prophets will it...
I know want Andrew Garfield to win just so Emma Stone can hand the Oscar to him.
Too soon!
