    I've watched many of your videos and found them very helpful. What I like about your videos is you show every detail on what you are doing. I need to replace the turn signal switch on my 1972 as one side doesn't cancel and the horn is not working. Keep up the great work.

    Looks like I've already commented here.
    Now that I'm actually going to start on the steering column, this video turns out to be, by far, the best instructional on the c3 column.
    I wish he'da kept going all the way down and completely stripped it.

    Great video. I had a short in the switch that caused me to replace it. I have a 1972 with tilt and telescopic column. I want to pass on a couple of added suggestions and minor differences I found with my 72 versus your older column. First, before disassembling the column, I bought a new switch, disconnected the harmonica connection and connected the new switch while outside of the column. This allowed me to test if the switch worked and confirm the old switch was the issue after troubleshooting all other possibilities. Next, rather than altering a screw to lock the telescopic shaft in place, I used a 5/8" length 5/16 - 18 set screw. On my switch, I only had the three mounting screws, I did not have a Turn Signal Lever Screw, it was fastened directly and did not require it to be removed. Once I removed the three mounting screws, the switch slid out. When sliding the wiring out, I used some parachute cord and made a slipknot that slipped over the harmonica connector lengthwise. Then I wrapped electrical tape around, also lengthwise so it slipped easily through the path in the column. The tape also protects the connector during its passage. I removed the cord and repeated that with the new switch and pulled it through with just some minor finessing. Lastly, one must notice how the Hazard button makes contact with the switch, if you don't align it while slipping it in, you find out it is not connected until after the column is reassembled.

    Many thanks. My horn assembly has been off for nearly two years and this is by far the best video showing how to disassemble.

    Bought the combo wheel remover and pin compressor from harbor freight for about 12 bucks and made the bolt like you describe to hold the telescoping shaft steady. Worked like a piece-o-cake!
    Thanks

    Your most relevant (to me) video to date, good job. I need to go a little farther in to tighten some bolts that make the column loose but I think you got me most of the way. Haven't been in there before, this should help. Thanks

    I replaced mine on my '70 Vette a few months ago but my blinkers won't cancel. I noticed that mine did not have the rubber 1" spacer and the washer that was directly behind the hub and long spring. Wondering if someone removed them in the past and maybe that is the cause of my blinkers not cancelling. Guess I'm gonna see if I can order that rubber spacer and the washer. Thanks again!

    Thank you for posting this....very helpful... when you made the bolt to stop the wheel from telescoping, why didn't you just use the star screw? Or could I just put the star screw back in there to make it do the same? Or do we need a bolt for some other reason? Thanks again!

    Dumb question but its mentioned you just put everything back as you took it off. I am about to tackle this project this week but when you used the puller to remove the hub how do you go about putting it back on? Mallet? Hammer? Or the bolt will re-torque it back down?

    • @TheWhatisright
      @TheWhatisright  5 років тому +6

      That is not a dumb question at all. I softly tapped it back on and then used the main large nut to set it in the rest of the way. Make sure you mark the location before you remove it so it sets back in the exact location when reinstalling. "Hop"

    How do you even put the wiring through that small space? There’s no way for me to run the wire down to the connector on my 78’ it’s ridiculous I’ve got it all apart and now I can’t even install the switch because I can’t run the wire down

    Thanks for posting this! Makes tackling this job so much easier! I have a 69 with the tilt and telescopic wheel, you said there are 4 shims, but the kits online are showing only three, which is the correct number? (I think someone removed these and didn't put them back)

    • @TheWhatisright
      @TheWhatisright  4 роки тому +1

      It is possible the original owner of my care added one. I was only removing what was already installed.

    So if you have a horn issue with a c3 it’s in the steering column? Not the firewall under the hood?

    • @TheWhatisright
      @TheWhatisright  4 роки тому

      Not always. It can be the horn or even wiring going to the horn.

    At 7:05, you have two spacer that I don't have on my 1972 with T & T. I'm assuming they are missing and should be there, but I can't find them on any website to purchase them. Can you help me with what these are called or direct me to link where I can purchase? I'm buying a number of things from Zip, so it would be great if I could find them on their site. Thanks for a great video, as it helped me get my wheel apart.
