Race One - CTCRC Thunder Saloons - Brands Hatch GP - 13/08/2022.
The first race of four was with the CTCRC Thunder Saloons, a vast array cars and some big power to contend with.
We qualified in third place but new there was more time to come from both car and driver.
Alex managed to grab second place into the first corner, Paddock Hill, it was then a case of trying to mange the lack of grip while the tyres came up to temp and not lose too much ground on the very quick Sierra Cosworth in front. (The big Holden is abit of a handful on cold tyres, it takes a good four laps before you can start putting the power down and leaning on it in the corners)
At the end of the second lap the Cosworth drifted off the circuit and into the gravel trap due to a component failure, putting us into first place.
Amazingly on the second lap and with the tyres not even at their best yet, Alex managed to not only produce the fastest lap of anything so far that day but also posted his own personal best around the GP circuit.
This looked promising for some blistering lap times once the tyres were up to to temp but unfortunately a yellow flag for the stranded Sierra, then a big crash for the lovely Nissan Skyline of James Janicki brought out the safety car and then ultimately led to the race being red flagged.
A fortunate win on a shortened race but looking at our early pace we could have had a good battle for the lead with the Sierra once the Holden could have been fully used in anger, if it wasn't for the unfortunate turn of events for the other drivers.
