Here is the in car footage from day two of the Super Touring Power Event (2nd of July) at Brands Hatch, where Greg carried out his second demonstration run. This time he was on the shorter Indy Circuit.
This video is a joy to watch!
Greg was on hard compound tyres, which were fitted new the previous day. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to get soft tyres in 17" for these cars anymore. We have soft's for the 18" COTF wheels but we wanted the car to be period correct.
Greg sets a pretty decent time, even though it is just demo runs and he isn't pushing as hard as he can. Looking at the data, if the car was running softs, setup perfectly for Greg and he had some more time on the circuit, it looks like a 47 would be possible, which is not bad for a big old Holden round this short circuit!
Back Ground info :-
On the 1st of July, V8 Supercar star Greg Murphy was reunited with his 2008/2009 Sprint Gas Racing Holden V8 Supercar, TMS001. A car we have proudly owned since 2015.
Greg was over in the UK to race a Nissan Primera Super Tourer at the Super Touring Power Event. As soon as we knew Greg was coming to our home circuit, we had to arrange for him to drive the car, which is in its period correct, 2009 Bathurst livery. He would drive the car on both days, first on the GP circuit and then on the Indy. Both runs were as part of a demonstration.
TMS001 was a car Greg and his Dad actually owned after Tasman Motorsport lost its funding. His team Greg Murphy Racing, ran the car in Super 2's for Geoff Emery, who would eventually buy the car and whom we purchased it from.
Greg hadn't driven the car since 2009 and hadn't seen it for over ten years. He wasn't quite sure what to expect but, was not disappointed when he jumped back in it for the first time, amazed at the condition the car was in and that everything was how it should be. His reaction was a huge pat on the back for us.
It is very safe to say Greg absolutely loved driving the car again and at such a legendary circuit. It really was a pleasure to have him in the seat and see the genuine enjoyment he got from it. Don't miss the end of the footage, to catch his reaction.

Who else thinks V8SC should have gone to England instead of China when they did?
100% mate would of been awsome
I always thought somewhere in Europe would have been a good place to start. They already have a love of touring cars over there but nothing quite like a V8SC so would have been able to draw on an existing fan base.
They do what the government says they can do 😂 remember Kevin 07 loved China 🇨🇳 so they went their
Gawd, imagine this thing at Silverstone....
@@PiDsPagePrototypes It's been there and won races there.
There’s not much else that sounds better than a V8 Supercar getting spanked and the unmistakable whine of a Hollinger sequential gearbox. Great to see Murph out there enjoying himself ❤🔥🔥🙌🏼🙌🏼
Imagine, you're in that little Hillman Imp, you look in your rear view mirror only to see this beast coming up behind you, at speed, then passing you like you are standing still, and again and again. I appreciate that these are totally different classes of car, but still awesome.
What I love about this video.
A English mate took his granddaughter and grandson to this meeting.
Grandson said. The other drivers think they are going fast. Until the Holden just blows past them.. lost count counting overtakes.. 😂
Fantastic. Good grief, those Poms must have been in awe of a beautiful V8 screaming past them. What I really enjoyed was seeing Murph's footwork throughout the laps. What a great driver he is. Thanks for the upload, a pleasure to watch.
we was it was fantastic:)
And embarrassed too, being passed by a big tank, changing up and wheelspinning as well
This video is the best 👏👏 I watched it with my headphones on & the sound pumped right up 👌 Great to watch Murph enjoying himself
Lapping cars several times & entertaining the crowd on Turn 2 while delivering a few Thick Black lickerish Strips on his way 👍
Was loving turn 2
I miss my Holden commodores in the Australian touring car championship Murphy is awesome driver
No was, still is an amazing driver.
What footage… Murph was absolutely lighting them up!! 🤩 #suttonseekingmissile
Thank you Greg for taking the time out during the pit walk on Sunday to have a chat with me… You are a true legend!! 🏆
#alwaysmeetyourhero
It seems like the secret to driving this car is it tries to kill you with oversteer and you have to channel that oversteer into extra speed without dying :D
Murph having fun in a beast of a car. Showed the hairdresser’s hatches a thing or two. Loved it.
Wish I was sitting next to him, the sound the power and the fight with the car is just amazing! And the man can still drive!!!! It’s still pumping through him so great to see!!!
So cool. I grew up as a kid in the UK and have spent the last 20 years in Australia. Awesome to see Greg Murphy driving his VE at Brands Hatch!
Um. It's not the ve..
Really?! Care to explain what it is then? 😂
@@feralpanda5084 it's the vr vs commodore.. if you look up ve and vf commodore.. you will notice a screen in the dash.. that displays advertising..
Completely different chassis.. it's smurfs old car..
@@feralpanda5084 the ve cars have a centre dash display for sponsors advertising. Completely different chassis.. this is one of his old cars..
@@graemejohnson9025 nope, VE. VR/VS was mid-late 90’s. Even says in the vid description it’s his 08/09 car, and on the dash at the end.
Im a Murphy/Commodore tragic . If I watch the 'Lap of the Gods' video , I tear up every time . Love ya Murph . 🙂
Thanks so much for allowing Murphy to drive this beasts. These cars are much better than the silly Gen 3 cars that we have now. Love how Murphy is so into it
Sensational , the man can steer, loved the drifts for the crowds
That car is a handful around that track, he is working really hard.
Nothing like the sound of a V8 supercar...Paul from Australia
Epic down shifts, nice one Murph!
Goosebumps, what an amazing sound track ❤
Great footage!
Fancy seeing you here mate
That was like Iron Mike Tyson fighting a kindergarten class. What a display.
Like racing around the hills hoist that little track. Poor Murph couldn’t even open the tap!!
Watching him go round the outside of other cars thanks to the grip, and the noise of the Hollinger 'box, then leaving the Super Tourers just standing still,... Crowd must have been in shock from the sound and the speed.
Just noticed how he left the Renault from the same era standing still. Always will be one of the greatest times of the Australian Super Cars
Now all need is the rest of the Pack racing around with you what a sound 😊
That was f#@kin awesome wish i could of gone to Brands but life got in the way
That car is just to much on the Indy circuit it had a chance to stretch its legs on the G.p circuit
Thanks for sharing this 👌👌👌
i love murph's driving...one of my top 3 racers of supercars! great vid. it all looks effortless and he is certainly enjoying himself. one of the best murph vids is when he pranks cameron smith (Rugby league player) so funny! What is it with Kiwis and supercars...jim richards, greg murphy and SVG! brilliant drivers
M
Did you forget Scottie Mac ...3x champ?
@@snoopythedog3266 i did, true
I love this song ❤
This track reminds me of Hampton downs in NZ.
More More !!!!!
Brought a tear to my eye watching and remembering.
Looks like the camera got a bit loose there towards the end, pulling it around those corners!
Looks like all the other guys are on a sunday cruise😁
Straight cut gears!! Damn, what a symphony of power. 😎
i loved the little pommie imp getting lapped over and over and over again, trackhouse racing should sign murf up for the next road coarse race, so cool what a great driver
He's having so much fun! Bit of a handful. What sort of setup suggestions did he express? Roll centre and toe changes?
Main issue was that the front could do with being stiffer due the grip levels of the circuit, then re-work the rear. Did change the preload on the spring before the Indy run but stil wasn't enough.
Springs we run on the car are the most common ones Geoff used when the car was used in the DVS/Super2's. Ok for us amatuers but not a pro!
@@HoldenRacingUK Ahhh makes sense on all fronts.
And its got a Larry Bar across the windscreen. Banned on later cars yet that bar saved Craig Lowndes life. Go figure. (Called Larry bar because it was added to the cage by Larry Perkins)
Amazing engine sound
Love him or love to hate him, you gotta respect the skills of Murph! Great race car driver.
Very talented human, scariest part is seeing his son, it's like a junior version of the old guy
gorgeous
Camera position is fantastic
Nice little track, but it's no Bathurst.
That guy in the Hillman Imp must have gotten sick of seeing him go past!
This fire spitting monster makes the European Touring Cars look absolutely pathetic, the way he shot past that 500bhp Sierra RS500 @9:40 with ease whilst lapping him was unbelievable, brilliant footage and soundtrack.
Wouldn't it be amazing if the V8 Super Cars held a round in the UK as part of it's series?
It seems pretty clear the others weren't at racing speed, or least just much slower due to being amateur drivers(literally, not meant as an insult). European touring cars/2L cars etc aren't anywhere near that much slower than the V8s, even at bathurst.
An rs500 set at unofficial lap record(for any car) at Bathurst in 1990.
From looking at 1997 for an example, the touring cars were 6 seconds a lap slower than the V8s, from a total lap time of over 2 minutes.
Be nice to see exterior footage, as well. After a while, most interiors look the same - a mix is good.
I tried running round the track after him but I was out of puff by the first corner. 🥵
There is some exterior footage on our facebook page plus some people have posted on youtube, who were in the crowd on the day.
PreE85 tune, when the bang was bigger? Sounds awesome
I would say so: E85 isn’t easy to come by in the UK, I'd imagine. Ask Zak Brown. Could also be an older Walkinshaw/HRT engine, judging by the internal note. Can’t remember if Tasman Motorsport were Walkinshaw customers back in the day though.
If Murph was trying, he would be left foot braking, nuf said. So good to see Murph behind the wheel again :)
He doesn't tend to left foot brake any more due to a back problem. Also, he was being respecful of the gearbox. 👍
Great car with a great driver. Love the videos of them around Brands...
Just a question... is 6th gear diagonal cut instead of 1 throu 5 are straight cut gears...? The straight cut whine is just gone in 6th..?
Most of the ratio's used in the Holinger era made 6th gear the 1:1 ratio.
Awesome Vid, must be an eye opener of the other drivers and crowd,
The way Murph was lapping there compared to the others reminds me of Gregs "LAP OF THE GODS"

I'm a Murph fan and always will be. He's even got a Datto 🥰
Cool to see Murphy behind the the wheel but down side can't see him open up the car in one full angry Murphys
Murph, what a champion! I wish the NASCAR people could see how a 50 plus year old driver from supercars can drive. They should put this on the official NASCAR page and finally show how good SVG is as he's the new Murph.
Age often doesn't mean much for any drivers, Jim Richards won Bathurst at 55. I'd imagine many drivers simply quit as they get older, as they no longer want to risk an accident, just lose interest, etc.
Onya Murph.
A few traction problems.
Could have taken the windscreen brace out between part 1 and 2 at least
Didn't have my scissors with me...
British touring.....oh, those things in the rear view mirror, gotcha, know what they are now 😂
Rear view mirror are not necessary racing these cars! 😂
Sorry but give me the Bathurst circuit anyday
Mean murphy go kiwi
what were the lap times?
Really short circuit....this beast cant even stretch its legs.
Sword at a knife fight 🤣
650hp vs 300 lol
Don't get too carried away V8 Supercar fans. The other drivers were amateurs.
You dont get excited, V8 supercars are fast! Small block N/A V8 650hp, weighing only 3000 pounds, even if those other cars had good drivers they likely wouldn't be keeping up. Stop spreading your uninformed opinion about the place, clown.
A couple of those drivers need their backsides kicking, a far faster car comes up and the block?????
Murph is not Shane for driftung!!
Kind of shows the TOCA touring cars are shit!
Soggy track, why bother.?
Why did you even watch this, apparently you've never heard of having fun with race cars.
