🎮 Thanks for watching! What do you make of the Wii U? An iredeemable disaster or criminally underrated? 🎮
The Wii U died so the Switch could live. That said I loved my Wii U and regret selling it. Sure it had gimmicky games but the likes of Xenoblade Chronicles X made it worth while for me. It was also handy when the missis at the time wanted to watch TV, I could still game using the gamepad whilst she watched TV.
@READ HEADBUTT MAN By TV, I meant just using the TV for Netflix or what not.
It had a great gimmick, but was criminally underused.
Disaster - a bunch of 3rd party games released later (and to lower reviews) than elsewhere
A load of shovelware on launch, instantly reminding people of the last few zombie years of the wii
With naff 3rd party games, atotal lack of any exclusive amazing 1st party nintendo games, just one Mario game, and 86 is a low score for a mario game
No killer pack-in game. I believe ZombiU was the main one, such a massive tonal shift from wii sports. It was also rather experimental, even for it's target audience of "gamers" rather than "families" it wasn't grab-and-go (I believe it has been ported to other consoles now)
I loved Orochi warriors though, played it to death in co-op, every character, every mission.
Yeah it's an overdeveloped 7th gen console acting like a 8th gen console because Nintendo doesn't respect their costumers and power PCs get hot when capable... 😂
ZombiU was given a second chance at life, It was re released on other platforms simply named Zombi
I just bought a Wii U a week ago. I love the idea of playing Wind waker and looking down on the game pad to see the map and switch out items. I really enjoy the Wii U.
Yeah, the gamepad screen is awesome when devs put the effort in. Shame on how breath of the wild got nerfed on the system. That would have been great to used the gamepad for map and inventory navigation
Lucky that twilight princess is one of the only games that actually work on the WiiU.
A criminally underrated system. I just wish Nintendo would have made the Wii U able to play Gamecube games in addition to Wii games so we would be able to play them all in 480p on HD TVs via HDMI.
Weirdly enough all it wouldve taken is a small hardware add on. It can natively play GameCube games because theres a Wii built in it...
Get a U and hack it and then you can run GC games off of USBs, hard drives, sd cards. GC code runs natively as the U is effectively GC MK3. Nintendo decided to use a drive that can not read the discs, idiots!! They would have got a couple of million more sales of units which would have lowered their loses, in the retro World it would make them a must have device as the best way to play 3 generations of software, Nintendo's entire optical media catalogue.
@@darthwiizius Exactly, cuz I would rather play my GC games by running the disks...gotta to them to use somehow.
I think it’s only underrated due to how easy it is to hack. The tablet pad and limitations around them are trash, and the legacy is super watered down with most things going to switch.
Meta critic is the only rating site to use f oh r games and movies
people may mock the game, but 'show your rhythm with the funky charlestown' is going to become a staple of my daily lexicon
Oh yeah here we go Wii U time
Here Wii U go
I've never played a Wii u before and not enough people saw one being played but they are going to give it everything they've got.
Sonic and All Stars Racing transformed as my favorite racing game of all time. It's one of the first games that I downloaded to my Wii u. The first games that I ever owned on my Wii U I bought physical copies when I got the Wii U at launch as the first person to be in Target to get it in my hometown, but yeah I realize it was really easy to be the first person in town to do so because hardly anybody wanted a Wii U compared to when I was trying to get a Wii 6 years before.
But I love about Sonic and All Stars Racing transformed is yes I think the transformations are awesome because I'm some racetracks it makes every lap different because you'll transform because maybe a bunch of the road was destroyed so you have to transform into a plane to do the next lap for example. But also I just love the items it's so much more balanced and skill-based in this game than it ever could be in the Mario Kart games.
Replacing that bastard blue shell with hornets that will take up a lot of space on the track in front of the first place driver yeah you're more likely to hit them but they're still a chance you can dodge them all so you're not just completely screwed, not to mention it has a chance of affecting the first three drivers not just the first place driver.
I like how the firework just zips down the track when you shoot it so if you're looking straight at somebody you can easily hit them from a distance. The green shell is a straight shot in Mario Kart but my goodness it's so slow that it's really hard to hit somebody with it unless you're really close. I also like how in some situations you can avoid being hit by the heat seeking RC cars. You can avoid it by boosting at the right time although you're not always going to be able to do so. In Mario Kart you require to use another item in order to avoid getting hit by the Red Shell but I'm going to be fair on this I think in both cases it's pretty fair in this regard, but the other ones yeah it's I just prefer how it's done in this game.
I also like how much you can change the attributes of your drivers based on which gear you give them but Mario Kart had already started doing that before
Ok cool but who asked?
I have such fond memories of the console. Creating Miis, messing around in Miiverse, and using the Wii mode were some of the many things I did on it.
Watching you play New Super Mario Bros. U WITHOUT RUNNING is the most painful thing I’ve ever had to watch.
ah the wii u, in my opinion I loved this system, lot of great memories with it and it's pretty much the first iteration of the Nintento Switch ... yes it has flaws but it was good. It's a shame that Nintendo didn't know what to really do with the system at first. I got it when it came out and at the time there weren't that many games, mostly ports and then a while later a plethora of games came out. All in all a fun system. Underrated game was Zombi u, great game and needs a follow up.
Zombi U was release on other plateform years later as "Zombi".
Btw, i had a lot of fun playing with friends at Nintendoland's Mario Chase :D
Ben plays it on a recent Vidiots stream
The first Zombi game released in the 86
LMAO @ 'Hospital Lime." That whole segment was brilliant. Never change, Ben. 🧡
Zombiu was amazing. Great story. And the part at the nursery or whatever it was..... Now that's a jump scare. Great Great game. Needs a 2nd part on switch.
ZombiU had a second chance, it came out for the PS4, Xbox One and PC a year after its release on WiiU, but they renamed it Zombi.
Zombi was released on the PS4 and that version is one of my favourite gaming experiences.
What about the Wii U version?
@@G.L.999 Never played it.
@@TheThird1977 Shame, since the port to other consoles is essentially a shell of the true version. ZombiU is not a perfect game, but the Wii U version is superior.
To be fair to Connor, he had to follow on from one of the most iconic characters in gaming with Ezio.
Bought it for my young kids a few years back and been very impressed . I'm 40 this year I have to say its one of the best consoles I've ever owned and I have owned nearly every mainstream console since the atari 2600. Silent, reliable, great catalogue and for me the wii u pro controller is one of the best I've played games with. Its just a shame it failed as imo it was ahead of its time.
Gamecube version 3 was a great little console with some great games. In some ways it's better when a Nintendo console struggles because Nintendo always go hard to support it. I bought one and went through about 50 games on them and the 1st and second party exclusives were, are top drawer in terms of polish and art style. 3 Zeldas released, Mario 3D, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Pikmin 3, Wooly World, Paper Mario, Tropical Freeze etc. I need to get one and hack it to run Gamecube Roms, it's backward compatible but the geniuses at Nintendo decided to make the U's drive incapable of reading a GC disc. Sure, I can emulate but why bother if you can just run it natively in HD.
It failed because it had the worse possible marketing most people thought it was an overpriced controller for the Wii
@@yeetyeet5079
Yeah, people thought "I've already got a Wii and I'm sick of add-ons and gimmicks". People literally thought of it as a controller add-on only.
Nothing about it was ahead of its time
@@darthwiizius even the Xbox one recovered to sell 50 million units which is pretty good because people at least knew what it was
19:21 love that 😂😂😂
Absolutely loved ZombieU ! A sequel on switch would be great
Agreed great game
I got one this year. It is a fun system, especially if homebrewed. Also, being able to play games with the TV off is actually pretty cool.
I got one for Christmas 2022 with a big game library and I love it!
Love these launch title lists, great stuff as per usual from TJ
I'm still not fully convinced if the Wii U ever existed
Is that Yuri Lowenthal in the Game Party Champions cutscene? It sounds like him.
I love these videos of launch games, amazing
Nintendo land as a party game was well played in my household. The Mario chase 5 player and Luigi’s ghost hunt were very popular
The first time I heard of darksiders 2 was in a comic book I had around 2013. It's very odd to only now be learning anything about it.
Wasn't ZombieU ported under the immensely creative title "Zombie" to other systems later on?
Zombi, to be precise
I loved my Wii U since I become in December 2015. Only my Gamepad, is bad and lost charge in 1h. So much cool 3rd party games, an I think the best is that online multiplayer is free. Hope my Wii U has a long life. Good Video 👍
I still have mine. Still play Splatoon, Super Mario Maker and Wii Sports Club while they are still online as well as other physical games I still have. It's even better softmodded which let's you play GameCube games in addition to Wii games.
Finally got one and I love it. Will never go by people’s opinions again.
ZombiU is an amazing game that put the gamepad to good use
Mass effect 3 gets too much hate.
It's my favourite in the series; the stakes never felt higher.
I love Mass Effect 3.
@@bensonsj98 As a mass effect enthusiast from the 1st hour (2008 on PC) I can only say that I love the trilogy with all the trimmings. But you have to admit that the ending of ME 3 was really strange. But that was because the "real" end was leaked and they had to come up with something else.
It's fine and I enjoy it now but they 100% fumbled the ending. They overpromised and failed to meet the expectations they set for themselves.
Mass Effect 3 is the worst in the series.
Been waiting for this one!
Brilliant video as usual Ben, as a Wii U owner being waiting ages for this one. Can you do XBox One next please?
I never understood why gamers didn't warm up to the Wii U. Not only was it the proto-Switch that allow you to play on the tablet if someone else was using the screen, and have some great 3rd party games, but it was also the system where Nintendo probably gave their fans more of what they asked for than ever before. With the Wii gamers begged for more mature, traditional games. Yet, Nintendo laughed while swimming in a giant pile of cash Scrooge McDuck style.
But, right from the jump Nintendo really gave the fans what they wanted. More 3rd party titles, of course, but from a software style the Wii U gave us brand new games in just about every series from Nintendo including; Mario 2 and 3D games, Donkey Kong Country, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Smash Bros, A Yoshi game, a Kirtby game, Star Fox, Pikmin 3, Paper Mario, Pokken, Tournament, Mario Tennis, and of course let's not forget Breath of the Wild was originally developed for the Wii U and I played it on that first and it was just as amazing on the Wii u.
Many of these games were ported to the Switch and critically loved and sold like hotcakes.
As for 3rd Party games, there were Assasins Creed, Mass Effect, Darksiders, Call of Duty (which no one played so basically had no multiplayer) Injustice, Ninja Gaiden, Sonic, Batman Arkham, LEGO, Bayonetta, Splinter Cell, Resident Evil, Sniper Elite, Deus Ex, Monster Hunter, Xenoblade Watchdogs, and Dragon Quest games.
Splatoon and Mario Maker also made their debuts on the Wii U.
If it wasn't for their Terrible marketing that made everyone think the Wii U was simply an add-on or upgrade to the Wii, I think this would have sold FAR better than it did. Maybe not better than the Switch or the Wii but it should have sold better than the Gamecube or N64 instead of being in the same bin as the Virtual Boy.
I love the Wii U. I use it fairly regularly, although not as much as my Switch.
As a Transformers fan (and a big fan of Transformers: Prime in particular), I… do not know how to feel about hearing Megatron called Megan Thee Stallion. It’s been a while since a good joke has left me feeling this conflicted.
I got one give to me in 2015. Underrated console lots and lots of good games .
That the Wii U did so poorly was actually quite simply Nintendo's fault. I was a Wii owner at the time (2013) and asked myself what I should do with a Wii U? It was not really obvious at the beginning what it was. A handheld? A Wii add-on (remember SNES CD anyone)? Or a console of its own. I was highly confused at the time and ended up sticking with the gaming PC (and the regular Wii). However, a year ago I actually bought a used Wii U and I have to say... the thing is actually quite cool. And with Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Breath of the Wild, Super Mario World 3D and others, there are some really good games.
ZombieU was already relaunched as Zombi for the PS4 and Xbox One. Don't ask me why Ubisoft did that.
My second favourite console of all time after the Gamecube.
I lovef the Wii U. Although the software library was sparse at times, the games that were released were absolutely amazing.
I loved playing the Wii U and have found it hard to emulate that love on the Switch. There just seemed to be much more love put into the Wii U.
Zombie U had me actually, seriously contemplating buying a Wii U. Of course I didn't, but I had some playing Super Mario Bros Wii U on my ex's console.
Thanks
i love how ben pulled his bow when he ambushed those goons in AC3
I didn't know assassin's Creed was on the Wii u
It has NFS as well
Sadly is most wanted 12
Look back on it? I still regularly play it. Fantastic system.
It’s Wii, it’s U, it’s everyone.
Please do the PS Vita launch titles next
I actually owned a copy of Game Party Champions. Hid it in my collection and didn't get around to playing it until years later and after I did I promptly destroyed the disc lmao
Loved my Wii U, bought it on release day and had over 50 boxed games when I reluctantly sold it to get a PS4 and Xbox One 🤦🏻♂️ Have bought a couple more since then and planning on pinup another this week 👍🏻
You should do the last games that came out for a console.
OH YEAH, HERE WE GO, SPORTS TIME!!!
I played a fair few of the multi platform games on the Wii U first and enjoyed most more than the other versions. Batman Arkham Origins and Assassin's Creed were a lot easier on the Wii U actually. More of these ports and better advertising could really have saved this I think. Also if they used the Wii controllers for more games too as that could still be a unique selling point
I loved AC3. This is where I played it first. Still my favorite AC game.
That "Mr Black" reference killed me
OK HERE WE GO LAUNCH TIME!
I'd like to think Ben said Here We Go Sports Time evertime he had to do P.E class in school
Signature catch phrase my foot, lol
The Wii U may have been a flop, but at least we got a nice selection of games for the system. I'd play Mario and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 anytime!
If there was one franchise that would definitely benefit from the recent trend of quality licensed games, it's Ben 10 with an action RPG that would let you switch between 10 characters on the fly.
just noticed your gamertag while playing blacl ops 2 was adampacitti 😂😂
But that's the best part of Zombi U. It gives a more "realistic feel" (yeah, the irony is not lost on me) because you have keep your head up while looting, instead of all action pausing around you while you loot.
The Wii U is actually a decent little machine (when modded with cfw). Plus, If you don't have a Switch, it's the best way to play BOTW.
ZombiU was legit GOOD! I bought it again on Xbox One when it was rereleased, I’d love to have a switch port of it!
I’d like to a sequel to Zombi as well a a switch port of tank tank tank
Honestly love my Wii U. Personally adore the system.
Been waiting for this!
I think that the Wii U is an amazing game console. I have many happy memories playing with my brothers co-op on Mario World and Mario Kart.
I think that Wind Waker looks beautiful on the Wii U. I think that the Game Pad is amazing and it made it a better gaming experience with an extra screen.
I still buy new games to it i just got Tekken, Nintendo Land, Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush and Star Fox Zero also i will get Project Zero Maiden Of Black Water in 2 days.
I bought the Zelda version of the Wii U plus Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze when i was 14 years old in 2014.
If you haven't got a Wii U and aren't sure if you want one i highly recommend getting one because even though a lot of the top games have a port in the switch they were made for the Wii U Game Pad in mind.
Best every launch title video.
Wii U 2023 FTW
Tank Tank Tank was great dumb fun! Glad I have my physical copy still!
I'm a big Assassin's Creed fan, but I've never checked out the Wii U ports. That frame rate is certainly something.
HERE WE GO.. sports time 🤣
Here we go, sports time?
I'm going to give this EVERYTHING I've got!
I live for that moment
@@stick0 unlike you cock stain i dont live in the moments
Epic Mickey 2 is by far the most underrated game of all time. Sure the AI and frame rate is kinda bad but the presentation, characters, story, and world is one of the best I’ve ever seen in a video game ever.
Zombi U was ported on PC, PS4 & XB1
I genuinely loved my Wii U and some of the best Switch games are just ports of Wii U
I loved the Wii U at the time, it was super fun to play and the dual screen system was really capable of neat stuff. But the reasons it failed to take off are myriad and well detailed in other videos so I won't get into it. While the Switch has absorbed all the best games from the Wii U by ports, which is awesome, I still lament that the Switch can't do all the Wii U could in some ways. The asymmetric play of Nintendo Land and the ease of making Mario Maker levels using both the pad and TV simultaneously were so great.
Also just a personal pref thing, but as a large-handed guy I though the pad was really comfortable to hold. I actually appreciated that it keeps your hands further apart, less elbow and shoulder strain over long periods.
I've got small hands, and it was still one of the most ridiculously comfortable controllers I've ever held.
I still don't know how they managed it. It looks like it should be a clunky nightmare.
So I was given to understand that a lot of launch issues with some of these games were eventually fixed with patches. I'd heard Arkham City was eventually patched to a far more stable fps, for example. Did it still have slowdown issues post patch, or were you playing it without the patch for the launch experience? Also I realize you probably didn't play all the games to completion, but IIRC the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 actually has the revised ending DLC already on the disc, making it the only version that doesn't need DLC for the full ending. And you didn't mention that the gamepad can be used as a local map and even allows you to direct your team mates to specific places or to use their powers on specific targets simply by touching and dragging. Worked really well for me when I played, added a nice strategy element.
"Creative Input Inference" should go on a Triple Jump t-shirt
Say the thing Ben!
*oh yeah here we go, sports time!*
YAAAAAAY
Oh, yeah, ZombieU time! I've never been to London, but I've seen movies, so I'm going to give it all I've got!
I tried Assassins Creed III, but as soon as I got spotted, every guard in the known universe knew exactly who I was forever. I tried hiding, but they never forgot and never stopped hunting me down. I don’t know if it was a glitch or what, but it wasn’t fun. I stopped playing fairly quickly.
Mario U was good, but at the time I don’t think I appreciated it as much as I should’ve done due to franchise fatigue. Nintendo Land was great, but fairly shallow. Sonic Transformed was absolutely fantastic, I loved that game! Without a doubt though, my favourite was Batman Arkham City. I adored Arkham City and played it for months, getting all the Riddler trophies and doing all the combat challenges. Absolute masterpiece.
Happy Friday Gang!!! Have a great weekend
ZombiU was released on other systems as Zombi. So it did get a second, and third, life.
I still haven’t forgiven EA for not putting the whole ME trilogy on Wii U. As a stand-alone game, that version of ME3 was the best console version until the Legendary Edition. Another hill I’ll die on: Armored Edition is still the best version of Arkham City, and Most Wanted U is still the best version of that game.
Chase Mii mini game needs a Switch release. Multiplayer option is just a no brainier!
I like Ben's CoD gamertag.
You make the best videos bruh
Zombie U Is Pretty Similar Too Resident Evil
It's good to be readiness.
I'm from the future, and i look back in fondness at only having to pay $130 for a gamepad. Here in the year of our ape-lord my PS11 "Seventy-axis" "8K rumble" "smellovision" "VR Bang-maid" equipped gamepad cost $175
How did you not figure out what to do on the first stage in WO3 ?
Admit it, Ben. The only reason why you STILL haven't done the NES launch lineup yet is because you don't want to say, "Oh yeah! Here we go! Sports time!" six times in a row, isn't it? Although admittedly I'm afraid to hear what you'll say about Volleyball. lol
Zombie U already did come back, you can get it on PC with normal controls for a couple of quid.
and ps4

Thanks, I didn't know that.
Very Good Games All The Wii U Ones
Zombie U looked interesting. Might seek it out.
Get this man some better zombies maps to play stat! Tranzit is pretty fun to mess around in though.

Zombie is such an underrated game its great if you play it on any other system then the one it was designed for
I think I picked it up for $10 at Best Buy. Complete bargain.
