You are so right about the sun. I had an old Hitachi motor that wouldn't move at all. I was gonna toss it. I left it on my window sill (by accident) for just one day and it's been running perfectly since.
I think the previous owner loaded that Kenmore with Lard. Love watching these. Just bought a used Kenmore 1941 but being a beginner, I have jammed the wheel. Off this week to get it fixed. Wish you’d show how to remove the wheel.
I picked up an old Kenmore at my thrift store. First stop was the repair guy. Five years later, still running like a champ. My only trouble is the bobbin wonder and I need to find a button holder. Otherwise,👍
Oh yes, quite worth it for the knowledge I am collecting watching you work as you explain. Looking forward to next lesson. I also enjoy reading all the comments.
I have a 1941 that I picked up and have been working on. It seems to be working fine (straight stitch only so far) but it will not reverse stitch. The reverse lever springs seem ok, but it is not reversing the dogs. Pretty sure I got all the lint bunnies out, and oiled everywhere metal parts interact. Suggestions on where I might go next to get her reverse stitching? Thanks.
I recently picked up the exact same model (or super close one) that was partially frozen up, the main under-deck shaft running the bobbin assembly. The rest of the machine points had been lubricated during the machine's operation but the lube points for that shaft are at such an angle they guarantee no oil getting where it was needed. Disassembly of those shafts, cleaning and polishing, then re-greasing/oiling and the machine is back to working. This machine has a handy blind-stitch option which is going to be 75% of the jobs (pants hemming) the average sewer will need a machine for.
Hi! A friend of mine was given a Kenmore 10, model 385 - 12490. The machine is running well with the only exception that when the reverse knob is pressed down, it will start sewing in reverse, but once the reverse knob is released the machine (feed dogs) continues to sew in reverse although the reverse knob goes to its original position. I helped her to clean and oil the machine, but it still having the issue. Do you recommend to put a little bit of WD40 to try to see if the reverse disengages? Thanks for sharing!
Hi I just finished freeing up a Kenmore Model # 148. 19370 after putting it back together the only trouble I am having is that the bobbin hook is causing the gears to jump and put the machine out of timing. This does not occur with the hook part out of the machine, only when it is in. Do you have any idea how i might fix that?

Yay, movement! Looking forward to seeing that Kenmore running!
I think it is absolutely worth it trying to get her to run again, even if the only outcome is the knowledge and experience gained.
Absolutely worth it!!!!

Blind stitch used about 30% of time. Takes practice to get that stitch not showing too much on fabric. I find faster to hem most garments by hand.
Do you have a video on how to change out the Motor belt on this Kenmore Sewing Machine and where would be a good place to purchase new belts?
I think it might be chain lubricant.

Did you ever sell this machine?
No, it is still not working properly. I will try again this summer to rescue it.
