Great video! I'm wondering, do you need access to the internal van ceiling when installing the roof rails? I'm converting a TC too but I'm not sure if I want a roof rack yet but I want to get on with insulating my ceiling. Just don't want to give myself a massive hassle later down the line removing the ceiling if I do choose to add a roof rack.
Hi Myles :) Thanks! It depends entirely on whether you purchase rails that use Ford’s designated mounting points or not. These are using the pre existing holes, and only require access from the roof 👍. If you were to opt for something like a rhino rack, there’s a good chance you’d need to start drilling your own hole attach nuts from the inside
@@AtypicalWorkshop Thanks, that's a very handy reply! Good to know I have the option of rails that use the existing mounting holes then. No drilling suits me :D
Here’s the response I got from the seller: “No specific brand, but you will need an automotive-grade silicone gasket, the sort of gasket available for water pump repairs, etc. All the Best!“
I believe there’s a link in the description! 🤗. There’s a version with built in cross bars which are perfectly viable. I only went for the Halfords cross bars because I needed to add the extra height to accommodate the vents
Where would you have placed the roof vents? I may have made my decision, but they're not in yet and it's possible I've overlooked something important!!
I placed two bidirectional pop out vents on either side of the rear cargo area, through the flat area on the walls of the van. My main reasons were to simplify life when it snows and freezes (there’s less snow and ice piling up on the sides of the car than the roof), maximize roof space, and achieve a bit more stealth than a rooftop vent. Of course they aren’t going to be quite as efficient at venting hot air, but after some tests I think it will be just fine as long as I have a fan running somewhere inside the van. Time will tell!
That’s a smart idea! In the uk, I shouldn’t have to worry too much about snow. I’m going to spray the rear vent (the one with the fan inside) the same colour as the van to help it blend in better). Do you have any pics of your vents?
Looking forward to the next episode bro. Im planning on placing a vent offset to the rear of the van leaving room for storage above the kitchen area. Its all about customising the build to your needs! Stay safe and healthy!

The effect @ 5:55 is brilliant for instructional videos.... multiple tasks in a short clip instead of a long linear video.👍
Thank you! I thought I’d responded to this at the time - my bad 😑 many hands make light work! 👨👦👦
I'm liking those roof rails 👍🏻
They were good, but not as good as the ones that came with my new van, which I’m guessing you’ve seen by now :)
You are an amazing craftsman! I am loving this series. Thanks for sharing.
Started my TC build a couple weeks ago-good luck to us!
Best of luck! Hopefully you'll pick up some tips in my videos :)

what's the red glue thing I didn't get any with mine
If I’ve still got the stuff, I’ll let you know what it’s called, though I will need to hunt around for it so bear with 👍
Pi3lad - I’ve contacted the eBay seller to try and found out what it’s called. Hang tight!

Too bad y’all didn’t film the process of moving the interior headliner to set the bolts for the rails
The threaded holes that I mounted the bars too are factory installed, if that’s what you mean? It made my life a hell of a lot easier 👍
What brand were the rails? Thanks 😊
