James Dewar has the most soulful voice of anyone in music great bass player too u hands get very tired playing his bass LINES. I PREFER Trower over Hendrix...YES..I JUST SAID THAT! MATT
All true. One of the greats. Tragically underapreciated. Check his duet with Maggie Bell on Stone The Crow’s “The Touch Of Your Loving Hand”. Heartbreaking and sublime.
First time i've seen this. A band truly at the top of its game in 1975. Miss Jimmy Dewar so much. One of the truly unique and original voices in rock history. Taken way too soon. Nice to see Robin is still playing his butt off and making new records every year.
lm old. 60+. lve seen Robin many times and l play guitar and know his songs and use a vibe etc etc lf you know you know. What l cant relate now is how good he sounded live in the 70s when bad sound was the norm. l know its the PA but he and Frampton seemed to have a method to the over-all sound that was unmatched. The band had great tone. Not Just the guitar.
Top Quality Band, as old as I am, I've only recently discovered them a couple of years ago what a trio!!! Bill Lorden is a revelation on drums....AWESOME ❤💯
Skipped off school and bought this album the year it came out purely based on the front cover. What a fantastic album and A tale Untold is still in my top ten.. Brilliant. Trower is awesome but the line up with Jim Dewar was the best. Sadly missed
After watching this vid, I looked up Robin to check out his Wikipedia. Low & behold it's his 78th b-day today. Happy Birthday to Robin! Been listening to his band since my h.s. days, when I had some of their 8 track tapes
When Power Trio’s Ruled The World! Rock was Rock in the 70’s! Rap or hip hop don’t even come close to holding a candle to these guys! Dammit I miss the 70’s! 60’s & 80’s too!
Part of Robin's magic is that he plays so many notes that don't even exist and every note is perfect. it's one thing to play half-step bends but he's doing everything between and it's always just right :) In 1977 I was working with a foley tech on Santa Monica Blvd at Scott Sound, Robin was across the street at Paramount working on an album. I was dyin' to get a chance to wander over but the Starsky & Hutch show had to go on..... Quality of this is really great, thanks!!!
DAAAAAAAAAAAM!!!! FUCK THE REST, ROBIN'S THE BEST! I NEVER HEARD HIM SOUND BETTER! HE IS LIKE THE FINEST AND SWEETEST WINE OF ALL TIMES! NO DOUBT! WHAT A SONG! WAAAO!! IT BLEW ME AWAY, I LAST HEARD IT LIKE 30 YEARS AGO...WHAT A PERFORMANCE! I AM IMPRESSED!
I know a little bit about something, and a whole lot of nothing, but Robin Tower put out some incredible music back in the day.....way underrated. And Funky Paul laid down some serious, deep artwork on those RT album covers !!!
+Alathea Jorgegsen It`s a beautiful name Alathea,....This is a great example of what Robin Trowers music was like as it came out and we saw it performed. Alethea means TRUTH in greek mythology. Always believe in yourself and the truth,...and the truth is that the song is actually spelled ALETHEA,....but I have seen it spelled both ways in names.
I luv these videos from Britain....They usually are top quality.....I have seen RT 3 times.....all at Wings Stadium Kalamazoo MI. back in the 1970s.....helluva guitar player....jaw dropping good.
Actually... They've both started performing at the same time, give or take a few months. Also, their first albums were released the same year. Jimi with The JH Experience, and Trower with Procol Harum. Hendrix had control of the sound, while Trower joined a preexisting band, and wasn't able to go guitar wild, as it was a team effort. Both have (had) stated Albert King as their influence. Robin has stated Jimi as an influence, but with both being influenced by King, before either got on a record, it makes sense that their sound would be so similar. If you listen close enough to some of Procol Harum, you can hear a shadow of the sound that Trower eventually became known for, once he had his own band, and therefore the control (not forced control, but rather, a great collaboration). Check out Albert King.
Greetings, I'm Vonj, this group changed my perception of music, they done something no other band did for me, you can almost taste humility in their works, Robin Trower has the power, but Not the same without Mr Dewar, I admire anyone who can sing like that while playing THE BASS..Peace Vonj
What can you consider this as being ? A type of jazz rock hybrid . Damn do miss this type of music. And as I age I come to realize that I did'nt miss out on the 60's. I became a teenager and a rocker at the best time in music.
Great live music. Still though....one of my fave songs to hear Trower play and sing on is "Song For A Dreamer" from Procol Harum's "HOME" album. Dedicated to Hendrix. Lovely piece of music. Good pot smokin stuff :D
His older stuff like this, with Dewar is phenomenal, but don’t sleep on his recent albums... they’re also just flat out amazing... some of his recent stuff has robin himself on vocals , and he’s quite good...
James Dewar one of the best rock singer/bassists ever....saw Trower a half dozen times in 80's, 90's & 2000's and while he is a guitar master, his backup band was always a disappointment when compared to the soulful voice of Jim Dewar. Tragic life story...his brain got messed up in an operation in 1987 & died in 2002. Tower's classics had the vocal genious of Dewar...RIP
Bill Lordan was with Sly & Family Stone after Andy Numark left, and so did bassist Larry Graham (the first notable bassist to really use walking thirds up and down thumping and popping) to form his Graham Central Station. A good video of him with Sly was on Soul Train. I believe both Reggie and Bill have their strong playing points and differ to compare the two pros' approaches to interpreting Trower's tunes. Bill is a bit jazzier/crispier and Reggie was more solid and powerful. (Appice is my all time favorite and no one even come close to him. I've heard people rant about Neal Pert, but Appice was doing the same licks 15 years earlier than Pert. Cozy Powell; R.I.P., would have to be my all time No2, tied with Ginger Baker. Cozy's song 'The Blister" still holds the Guinness Record as the fastest - displacing Appice w/ Cactus, "Parchment Farm," ; which displaced Alvin Lee's "I'm Going Home.") Trower's tone has always been the thing that grabs a musician and Dewar's vocals were the perfect compliment...
By the camera interference lines you tell they were playing FO loud....!!! That's a proper 'man's' guitar tone right there... such a great band... thanks for posting,...
James Dewar is one of the great soul voices of the 70's. May he rest in peace!!!
Yes he most certainly was.....

Loved RT as a 17 year old in ‘74. Still love him as an old man in ‘24, 50 years later. ❤️☮️
I love the way the drummer brings the band back in after his solo! Goose-bumps moment!
Yeah. My god that was as tight as a metronome, yet creative and powerful.
Total goosebumps
Yeah, Bill Lordan the name
What is the drummers name

Always been a huge fan of Robin Trower great guitarist, Jimmy Dewar had such a great voice his voice is missed, my he R.I.P...
I personally think Robin Trower is the best guitarist of all time and I've seen most of them.
Now that's what you call a power trio, they all do their best and that Bill Lordon is smokin on the drums.
Robin also has SICK drummers too!
Raw Robin guitarwork awesome and James kills it on vocals...so good.. O and Reg is so in time its nuts... A trifecta....of talent...
That’s bill lorden

I still think Robin Trower is one of the Worlds most Famous and Interesting Guitarists and Song Writers .! In 2022 I feel the same way .
criminally under rated and rarely heard guitar god
One of my favorite drum solos of all time. So musical, esp from Live album.
WOW! that was a great drum solo!!!
Bill Lordan, I believe
@@paulblakey4589 Yes, the great Bill Lordan. Look his page up on Facebook. He's a pretty cool dude.

Brilliant performance and great drum solo from Bill Lordan, I believe.

The "white Jimmy Hendrix" IMHO; happiest rocker I ever saw either. Truly deserves to be enshrined in the pantheon of "guitar gods".
You are so right with Stevie Ray Vaughan Gary Moore Randy Rhoades Roy Buchanan Rory Gallagher

I remember this drumming changed me as a drummer. The cymbal work. So on.
Great song, made special by the drum solo! Robin's facials are also precious.

How can you play a note that don't exist ? Nonsense.
Starsky and Hutch were watching him play, you missed out.
No me canso de escuchar a Robin...su álbum For Earth Below (del cual proviene esta canción) es sencillamente genial...!

That took me back to the days when a drum solo was de rigeur in a live performance from any rock band worth their salt!
The 40min drum solo halfway through the triple album about hobbit invaders from pluto!

great music....great singer...fantastic guitarist. I'm enjoying this
Jimmy Dewar singing and playing the bass is real cool. RIP
I don't understand a word of what Jimmy Dewar is singing but man what a warm soulful singing voice he had!
Can you imagine bands like this on t.v. in 2023? No! Me either.
Today's youth has Taylor Swift & Diddy...didn't ya here???? They're the best@a ha ha
He has that "guitarface" because he feels what he plays...everything that flows from his guitar flows from him! Long live the Stratmaster!!!!!1
Can’t believe a song exists with my name in 😲🤯
Seen Trower when I was eighteen 1975
Brilliant!👍
Loved this cut back then..... still funky and hot.
Muchas gracias 59, Té Quiero Mucho🔥🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥🔥
Clapton was saying in an interview that he'd first heard Trower on his car radio and thought it was a Hendrix number he wasn't aware of.
Brilliant guitar work !
It's so sad that his bass player/vocalist James (Jimmy) Dewar passed away long before his time in May 2002.
Yo, here in Delaware U.S.A. we're always listening to this..... get that drum solo!
Need to see Trower playing the US again one more time
Thanks for posting. This is one of my favorites! Long live Robin!
Super underrated Drummer..Matty NYC alias Mad Dog 🐕
this song is one of the best rock songs ever
Fantastic show
That drummer killin it!!!
Holy sh*t ! Bought this when it first came out. Never seen this video, the solos at the end were sick.

Each generation learns, borrows, and adapts to there own flavor. That's the progression of history in anything. I hear Jimi Hendrix in his music.
+G.J Dostou Thats the fluidity and influence showing through.....it is very reminiscent of Jimi.

Oh, big time! Trower gave me some of that delicious dark soulful stony vibe after Jimi had passed away. Very similar sound.
Trower was a Hendrix disciple. But quickly developed his own style.
