Classic wow works because its actually kinda hard and people can make it harder or easier depending on how much work they put in, too many games these days are easy and hold your hand and dont let you be creative

I tried eso for a few months. The lore, story and quests are pretty amazing, but some things make the game dogshit:
The combat sucks balls and looks like it's from 20 years ago, game is laggy as fuck, bad balance, there's no type of skill involved in any part of the gameplay, and graphics suck (minor nitpick but still relevant)
Yes technically wow's graphics are worse but the artstyle makes up for it, while ESO's artstyle has no character and personality and the colors of the game look bland
Also ESO copied WOW's whole flow, just like 90% of all other mmorpgs did
I guess that's why WoW has double the active player base
