As we continue to shut our mouths and slide down the Spiral of Silence on the Doctrine of the Family, bad actors will continue to dispense appealing falsehoods and gain ground on each of us and on our family members. We need to raise our voices about our FAMILY THEOLOGY! We need to be grounded in the doctrine of the gospel. The order of the family is central to this doctrine and to the Plan of Salvation. False teachings on the temple and the order of the family are gaining more than steam; they are gaining converts.

I wonder how anyone can eliminate Christ and still believe in grace, heaven, hell, or resurrection. Without Christ we cannot overcome even death. I worry about our brothers and sisters who are both members and non-members. I don't think many members understand the theology of family or agency. I hear members in our testimony meeting testify to things contrary to agency. There is so much misunderstanding of members. So many think that because you are sealed to someone you are automatically going to the celestial kingdom no matter what you do. They think their children will end up with them in the celestial kingdom no matter what their child chooses. I wish everyone would study the gospel and desire to understand it fully. They also believe that after we die and are resurrected we will be able to move from one kingdom to the next. I really worry about members understanding the doctrine. Many think we just have to believe in Christ and he will bring our loved ones home to exaltation. I weep in my soul knowing so many will not obtain exaltation. I am striving for it though I am imperfect and I repent daily. So many think that mercy is Christ giving us our loved ones even when our loved ones don't believe or want exaltation. Many members don't understand justice or mercy. Sorry about my rant. I just have really strong feelings about all of this. Thank you for sharing.

I wonder if I would have survived, dedication/testimony-wise in the Church if I were a young person today. I was blessed to be a teen and young adult in the 70s and 80s. We concentrated on the elements of the Plan of Salvation, and also the tenets of the Family Proclamation before it came into existence as an official doctrinal document.

In the 90s, if you supported“family values“ or spoke against “non-traditional families” you were labeled “intolerant.“ Being intolerant meant you were on one side of the line, but you were still in the discussion. Today you are canceled and not permitted in the discussion. You are a bigot or a racist or sexist and canceled. Your voice is not protected by the first amendment. Your words “hurt“or “harm” and are therefore invalid and canceled. To be labeled intolerant was acceptable. To be canceled is intolerable.

The word is not just referring to time so Eternal life also refers to God's life thus to gain Eternal life means we are gaining life like God's life but to do that we MUST be obedient to His Laws and commandments and those have come to us through prophets ancient and modern.

standing with the prophets and apostles. Culture and tradition influence all people, not only non latter-day saints, and deceive even the very elect, but the Saints who stand with courageous faithfulness are promised a certain blessing. Absent that covenant courageous faithfulness based upon the sealing power restored by Elijah and the temple covenants as a whole which bestow an endowment of power from God, we have no such certainty.

In D&C 121 the Lord makes a promise to those who live virtuous lives; it is that
“…the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven “. (vs.45)
That doctrine is all about the sealing of a family - of families! By the way- from vs. 34 onward we are taught how to govern and preside as a father and mother - husband and wife in our families.

4:39 as an adult, I don't feel like Elders' Quorum helps me be a better husband and father. We just talk surface level of the last talk. We have no discussion that our wives couldn't be present. No ones will talk about their specific problems.
We can't even have an honest discussion about what it means to preside, let alone come to any conclusion. I'm only slightly too old for a Harry Potter reference, so it's like taking Defense Against the Dark Arts from Professor Umbridge.
I try, but the conversation quickly moves onward because people are or might be uncomfortable.

I’m sure many quorum discussions can be improved, but this reminds me of Elder Bednar saying if all we ever learn about the gospel is from what people tell us at church, we are on a sandy foundation. The individual priesthood holder has the responsibility to know and practice the doctrine. “… would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets.”

Yes, individuals have primary responsibility to learn the doctrine. But priesthood bearers magnify their priesthood calling by preaching and teaching the doctrine so that the blood and sins of those to whom they minister is cleansed from the priesthood bearers' garments. This certainly includes doing so in quorum settings.

It’s so fascinating to me that the theology of the family (love that term, so gonna use it) is being questioned just in the church. Like just the other week, I saw this post from a page I follow that posts wonderful and inspiring thoughts. All church related. One such post was a picture that said something to the effect of “marriage, the only commandment you can’t obey by yourself” and it the comments there was an individual, who I want to say *was* a member (profile picture had a well known Book of Mormon print in the back ground). Was stating that marriage wasn’t a commandment, because it’s not stated in the Bible or Book of Mormon. As I tried to defend marriage, and brought up exaltation, she also didn’t believe THAT was a thing. (For the same reason why she didn’t believe marriage was a commandment)
Sorry for the long comment, but it’s something that’s becoming more and more apparent to me that I need to be a defender of theology of the family, the temple, and exaltation not only outside the church, but also sometimes in. (Though thankfully inside is still done less than out).

Theology of the Family...a beautiful concept. Satan is subtly attacking this Theology in yet another way. A way that is hard for devout LDS to see. Many parents are prioritizing their relationship(s) with their children above their spouses. They will contribute to the destruction of their marriages, all the while sabotaging the success of their marriages. I think this would be a great subject to explore while diving deeper into the doctrine of exaltation.

This is so true in so many ways. This is one of the major factors that destroyed my family. The sealing between the husband and wife to each other and to God is what makes the sealing of children to their parents possible. As far as I understand the doctrine and policy of the church of Jesus Christ, a child can not be sealed to just one parent. The sealing must be to both parents. Once children come to a sealed husband and wife, if one or both fall into the trap of favoring the relationships between parent and child ahead of the relationship between husband and wife, then the spousal relationship dwindles and the covenantal power of their sealing does also. Prioritizing parent-child relationships over the spousal relationship is not keeping the covenants we made with Heavenly Father when the husband and wife were sealed. Without the spousal sealing intact, the sealing of children to their parents is ineffectual. I believe it was Spencer W Kimball who taught that divorce is not the answer to marital problems. The solution is for both the husband and the wife to repent of the things that they are guilty of.

💯 I felt this too around 5 years ago when we attended a Christmas market, it was mainly geared towards families as they had a lot of child activities. At this event Telus has a showcase apartment and called it the apartments of the future. You could go inside and walk in it. It was TINY, very sleek looking, everything was pointy and square, all white. I walked out of there with my husband and then two young kids and told him “well I guess the future is childless according to them”. Housing has also become a huge issue for young families all around the world. I live in metro Vancouver, housing here is insane. We will never own a home (though it’s not something we are resentful about) but even in this climate the Lord has blessed us to find a wonderful home to rent where we can raise our three children. Truly it is a miracle and an answer to many prayers as I also homeschool and was praying for the space to be able to continue doing so.

I can’t even find where he has mentioned the Family Proclamation and taught the clear doctrines on gender. In my opinion, this is the greatest reason why there is so much division in the church today. We need to teach these doctrines clearly and consistently. The reason God cares about our character and why He will not grant everyone exaltation has to do with us and not with Him. Our handsome host says it is because God cannot do that because, if He did, He would cease to be God. But, even if God could do it, He wouldn't want to. Can you imagine the catastrophic consequences of sharing God's immense power with someone who's incapable of being trusted with such power? You or I might try to use that power for good and inadvertently cause imense harm. Others might use the power for personal gain or aggrandizement. Still others might use the power to settle scores for perceived slights or petty jealousies. Since being joint-heirs with Christ of all God has means sharing with Him His awesome power, He requires us to become perfect. That's why He cares so much about our character. He must become trustworthy to hold and exercise His power.

Our last RS President has a mental health councilor influence in her life and Ward. She turned RS into group therapy sessions with verbal praise and service hours arranged for victimhood. A group of women were spending the week compiling lists of how they were mentally injured, or offended. Then they excitedly went to RS to declare themselves the biggest victim winner. Any who pointed out we needed to deal with our issues, move on and strengthen your relationship with the Savior and atonement, were made to feel like they were cruel and lacking compassion. This is as close as I've found. I haven't found when it was said, but it's attributed to President Monson
"You, the youth of the Church, were generals in the war in Heaven, and one day, when you are in the spirit world,
you will be enthralled by those with whom you are associated. You will ask someone in which time period they lived,
and you might hear, "I was with Moses when he parted the Red Sea," or "I helped build the pyramids," or "I fought with Captain Moroni." And as you are standing there in amazement, someone will turn to you and ask in which prophet's time period you lived. And when you say, "Howard W. Hunter" or "Gordon B. Hinckley" a hush will fall over every hall and corridor in Heaven, and all in attendance will bow at your presence. You were held back 6,000 years because you were the most talented, most obedient, most courageous and the most rightous. ARE YOU STILL?"

Apparantly that institute instructor, who was a substitute that day, was also in charge of something at the church that gave him authority on the subject. He made it clear that this was completely made up and was passionate about it needing to not be repeated. For good reason. My testimony was good and my ego didn't take a hit, but imagine hearing that from a puppet or a teacher, feeling all inspired, but the learning later it was false. Learning that 1) you aren't the most important in the universe and 2) that feeling was not the holy ghost testifying, but just ego-stroking excitement.

This one verse explains our very purpose to BECOME more like God and to OVERCOME our natural human tendency . This is the whole purpose of the church to help us live this verse of scripture and to BECOME a saint through the atonement of Christ and to OVERCOME the natural man.

Greg, if I have to sit through one more Sacrament Meeting talk about "Service" or "Unity", I'm going to approach our bishop and say, "Bishop, my soul hungers for hearing about the basic saving doctrines of the Gospel. I need to have those things to help me navigate through Babylon and cling to the Savior in a fallen world so I can achieve my goal of Exaltation." The same happens in the Second hour lessons... too much "fluff" and not enough saving doctrine and inspiration to stay on the Covenant Path. I leave my church meetings every Sunday feeling like I've just sat through a session of "Tolerance and Acceptance" or "Step up your service to others because you're not doing enough, and the need is greater than ever."
During our last Gospel Doctrine class, a question was asked about where to find Christ's doctrine. I took advantage of the opportunity to reference the doctrine contained in "The Family: A Proclamation To The World". When I mentioned it, I was surprised at how uncomfortable the teacher and others appeared, and how quickly the instructor changed the subject. It was obvious some really didn't want to go there.
