Egg freezing patients ‘misled’ by clinics | BBC News

- Women who freeze their eggs are being misled by some UK clinics about their chances of having a baby, a fertility charity says.
The Fertility Network was reacting to BBC analysis that found 41% of clinics offering the service privately could be breaching advertising guidance.
The watchdog which sets guidance says clinics "must not give false or misleading information".
It comes as a record number of people are freezing their eggs.

Damn they just capitalised hope and dreams. It's like a ponzi scheme
It still works though and many will still prefer it than having nothing 😂 Women just need to do it earlier. These are older women that didn’t have this option that we do now. In future, it will be even more advanced. So don’t get too excited 😅😴
God bless this woman for speaking the truth and not sugarcoating or twisting the reality.
However, if these women already have a partner (E.g. they’re able to create and freeze an embryo rather than an egg) then they can always opt for “pre genetic screening” (PGS) which boosts the success rate to around 60%. If you’re willing to double your chances by implanting two eggs, then the statistical likelihood of success is then quite high. I have two beautiful twin daughters to prove it.
It's the same in the US. Thankfully, I pushed my doctor to tell me how many eggs I need for my age and thus, I made the fateful decision to go another round to go above the minimum 10. I did get enough eggs from which I have a 1 year old. Nevertheless, I suffered an infection and became infertile from the second egg retrieval.
Congratulations on the child! I am a donor and helped a woman have a baby through IVF - after 3 failed embryos she got pregnant and baby on the way.
@@AtkinsMediado you have contact with this woman?
@@leedlbagginshield8492 Yes but you know, my recipients vary in how often they update me. Some weekly, some yearly, a few disappear after they get what they wanted. I'm sure I'll hear from this woman - we got along well.
I actually didn’t know it was not certain that the eggs will fertilize. My friend who’s still single told me she was planning to freeze eggs but she sounded like it would be for sure be 100% success
Some really horrible misogynistic comments under this video. When did we collectively lose our empathy?
God forbid women hear opposing viewpoints. Man up.
@@aw-resistance9968 ignorant insults about women isnt an opposing viewpoint .
Misogyny is partly biological.. Firtmstly, the cost of reproduction is higher for women, to the point of possible death, so women have to be more choosy.. This creates a power imbalance between men and women.. Secondly, male hormones hijack the male brain as women were historically scarce.. So, men remember the child they were, then at the time their brain becomes obsessed with having sex with women is the same time women are denying them sex, so they conflate the two and believe women denying sex is the problem.. We need to start educating boys really early, to identify and control extremist misogynistic ideology..
@lorddavidlawrenceohh, so when you realised women strive to be treated as equal human beings, have autonomy over their bodies and freedom to make their own decisions?yeah.. screams selfish and lack of empathy for sure
When redpill became the voice for modern men.
Dr Lucky Sekhon, a reproductive endocrinologist, has a calculator on her website that uses to data to calculate your chance of a live birth from your age and the number of eggs frozen. From this, you can kind of infer how many eggs you need to freeze depending on your age at the time of retrieval - it’s really helpful for anyone considering this procedure.
Population decline looking quite real at this point...
Just need to stop mass migration, fix the house prices and salaries, give people sufficient social support for maternity / paternity leave and boom, population is fixed. It is actually very simple to stabilise the population.
not in asia,africa😂
@@Patrick-y4d1z
Immigration is one of the major reasons our population decline is less severe than other countries. Japan, south Korea and eastern European countries have very low levels of immigration and their population declines are much more severe than in the UK.
@@Dorgpoop
Immigration is the fundamental cause of our declining birth rate. Population decline is slowed, yes, but birth rate is obliterated.
Yes, Japan and South Korea have low migration and birth rate, as such their population will decline, that is literally what is supposed to happen.
A population will naturally stabilise to its environment. It'll cause things like house prices to fall and earnings to rise, meaning that people will then be more likely to have children as they're more financially stable.
Importing more people just pushes house prices higher and salaries lower, driving birth rate further down. It's trying to treat a sympton instead of the cause.
That and half the products on the market are low-key sterilising us.
Misinformation by commercial health related services are common worldwide. Another very common one is storage of cord blood from newborns, with the promise that the stem cells can in the future be used for treating all kinds of disease including cancer. To date, approximately zero person has benefited from cord blood stem cell storage.
I explained this 21 yrs ago to a friend but she didn’t believe me. My sister was able to donate her son’s and it was used but we don’t have any idea if it helped.
It sounds like it costs a small fortune for delaying it.
No one chooses to delay it. Unlike most of you women who settle and have babies in abject poverty. Most of these women have the funds, common sense and standards to realise it’s better to go this route. They will still never trade places with you 😅😴😂🚮
If you’re 41 you need over 60 eggs frozen. Wow, it shows how difficult it is to conceive if you’re over 40!
It really isnt that difficult. The way the numbers make it seem.
My mom, my grandma, my aunties and 3 of me best friends all got pregnant naturally in their forties and gave birth to healthy children. These are just women in my immediate circle but there are sooo many women that do conceive naturally in their forties. One thing you have to keep in mind is if you are very fertile genetically you won’t have problems in late thirties or early forties but if you struggle with low infertility you will have hard time conceiving in your tweeties too. Thats the fact.
This is crazy . . .all to make money!
There’s gotta be some way they’re doing it that has a high percentage though bc Hollywood actresses are having babies through their own fertilized eggs implanted in surrogates on a regular basis. Maybe they’re getting their eggs frozen at a young age I have no idea but it happens all the time. A LOT of A-list actresses’ kids were born this way.
There is. It’s called “pre genetic screening” (PGS) which boosts the success rate to around 60%. If you’re willing to double your chances by implanting two eggs, then the statistical likelihood of success is quite high. I have two beautiful twin daughters to prove it.
It's called having a ton of money and doing back-to-back egg retrievals.
Always prevention is better than cure, that's what women should bear in mind. Because this is one of greatest decisions that women can make
The only useful information this video could provide is what are the claimed rates and what are the actual rates per age. At 5:25 she says you need 10 eggs at 34, which isn't that unfeasible if you're freezing at 34 or younger. It feels like the takeaway is less that egg freezing is a scam and more that you should do it in your late 20s.
Amazing to hear that!!
They will still do it though as it’s better than not.
What’s happening with world
The main point of the procedure is to relieve childfree women of the pressure from a ticking biological clock. If they want to be childfree now, chances are they want to remain that way in ten years as well. Only 12% of customers retrieve their eggs.
What 😮? I always thought it was guaranteed, like what's the point then?
There are no guarantees , they dont know how many of the eggs they take out are going to useable to be frozen (not all eggs are good), they dont know how many eggs are going to be useable when they unfreeze them and why they may fertilize and implant 4 or more eggs at a time because they dont know how many are going to fertilize properly or how many , if any , will implant properly . There is also no guarantee that a miscarriage wont happen . There is no guarantee that nothing will happen during delivery or during a C-section or after either of those things There are no guarantees with pregnancy .
There's no guarantee of finding a man you want to have kids with and no guarantee that man will agree to having kids this way .
@@shari9721and no guarantee that when the egg is thawed it will lead to a baby
Sounds like we got the idea of freezing eggs from freezing food and assumed it would work the same 😅
Personally if it came to that, I would rather just have a kid as a single mother. I mean, the equivalent price of freezing eggs would probably cover using a sperm donor and quite possibly enough childcare costs to alleviate the extra stress until the kid is old enough to start school. But I guess it depends on your priorities in life (I've personally just always cared more about having kids than ever settling down with a partner!)
I think we need to think more about how to preserve our fertility for as long as possible, like the Hunza and certain African tribes. there must surely be solutions that exist but that we do not address because egg freezing has become a business
There’s no shortcut 😂😂
Sweet faiza, have you been reading Weston-Price?? 😂
@@LuciThomasHardylover-qx6ts not at all 😎but I strongly believe that fertility is affected and shortened because of our lifestyle and diet. if some women in the world can have children until they are sixty, it is possible to find solutions
@@Sweet.faiza77 absolutely. We can do much for ourselves and even more for our daughters and most for our granddaughters! I remember how it hit me when I was told that my last child was going to be a girl child and the responsibility to her as she was developing her eggs in my womb, that whatever I did would have an impact on HER children's health and fertility!! I've never seen Russian dolls the same since! These things should be taught to the younger ones, might help give young women some self respect back. Modern society has reduced motherhood to an activity to squeeze between the job, the housework, the 'me-time', something to be endured rather than the most important venture any human can undertake. No wonder we have such issues with mental health in the young in the developed world. We've lost our way and dragged our children down to.
What they don’t think about is what happens to the eggs they never use. I have friends who used in vitro fertilization. The doctors implanted 5 fertilized eggs, and then “removed” 4 of the eggs and put them into the medical waste stream. A couple years later, they had another 5 implanted and 4 removed. Now they have a couple dozen frozen eggs leftover and they don’t want any more children. It’s bad enough they scooped 8 fertilized eggs out and destroyed them, now they have all these eggs sitting there and they’re paying exorbitant storage fees. After their second child was born they started thinking about those 8 fertilized eggs that were terminated and they suddenly grew a conscious about what they were doing.
So are they just going to keep paying the insane storage fees on eggs they are never going to use until they die and then what happens to the eggs at that point?
Obviously more money than brains , not exactly an ideal scenario for raising kids .
@@shari9721
I’m not sure what they ended up doing. They talked about selling them to women who couldn’t get pregnant or who couldn’t hold a pregnancy to term for a few months but they never really said what they did with them.
Be more concerned about life via helping people that are suicidal!!! I've lost 5 people in my 70 years to suicide. F-the eggs. You have no idea what others are going through!!! Maybe you too!
There has been a lot of fears some misplaced and misunderstood about a human beings ability to couple together and procreate and together conceive a ‘baby child’ in the normal physical way.
It’s not surprising to hear this conversation today in our world.
My first question is: has medical science overstepped a boundary here by claiming to freeze a female genders eggs for any period of time?
My second question is: are the frozen egg or eggs then fertilised
by their male partner or by a males frozen sperm donor?
My guess is some are with their partner and some with a donor .
@@shari9721 Thanks Shari.
A sperm donor to fertilise a female human beings egg or eggs formed in their fallopian tube/s is an indicator, to me personally and professionally speaking, that there is some type of relationship energy imbalance.
Of course they're misleading. Has any rediscovered frozen adults ever survived?😂

Ah yes, all those people who chose their careers at 18, graduated by 21, started at 22, they clearly didn't ever want kids. No, they only ever wanted kids in their mid thirties.
No, people want children. It's just people want children in a secure environment. Which means they want to own a home and not be renting, which pushes them straight up to about 30 years old.

Having biological children is selfish/self-serving anyway. Anyone intentionally bringing children into this cruel, unjust and polluted world doesn't really love their child. Compassion=leaving children in peaceful non-existence.
So are you saying your parents are selfish and self serving and dont love you ?
@@shari9721 Nope, I said *the action* of bringing children into the world is what is selfish/self-serving. All reasons for reproducing are for the parent's/other's benefit, not for the non-existent/potential child who had no interests/desires to be born. As for whether they love the child, I would say that bringing them into such harm (the world) is not a compassionate act and is therefore inconsistent with 'love' and further speaks to the selfish/self-serving nature of reproducing but sure, parents may 'love' their child once they're born..

@@jamieg2658 and yet suffering persists and depression, mental illness, abuse, wars, crime, destruction etc are higher than ever. Regardless, the fact is that suffering is guaranteed, experienced by all to varying degrees which cannot be predicted nor prevented. You gamble with an unconsenting life when you procreate. Every single reason for procreating is selfish for the self-serving interests of already existing people, not for the benefit of the child who didn't ask to be born and was in peaceful non-existence before being forced here.
