I am 45 and I just had my egg retrieval today. I was sedated and started walking after an hour. Im aware with what's happening the entire time. They were able to retrieve 5 eggs, all good eggs, thank God.
I have mature follicles and my egg retrieval will be done on Thursday but the problem is my ovaries can't be reached because of fibroids. I had surgery for fibroids 2 years back but wow they come back to fast. All my ultrasound was done on my stomach because of discomfort I would feel when they do insert me. I am worried but I think I should leave it to God.

I'm super nervous. I have my egg retrieval tomorrow morning. On my US done on Friday she saw 6 eggs but Sunday which was my last US she couldn't see my right ovary but still visualized 3 eggs on the left.

Would like to share my experience because it may help other women in their mid-30s. This is my 2nd time undergoing egg retrieval and preservation. 1st time was when I was 31yo and 7 eggs were retrieved, and had my 2nd egg retrieval a week ago saving 11 eggs at 35 yo.I may not have been able to retrieve a lot of eggs but I was able to obtain higher AMH value this 2nd time around, and save more eggs after 4 years apart due to lifestyle changes, nutrition, and physical exercise. Was def under a lot of high stress, not eating or sleeping as well in my early 30s, this time around after 4 years I've gotten better at taking care of myself, eating healthier, sleeping more, and taking vitamin B complex and vitamin D supplements which my ob/gyn highly recommended the first time around. My doctor was quite surprised herself to see that my AMH value did not decrease over 4 years but actually increased.
Wish I had found your video beforehand. Had no pain or discomfort during the whole process. However, I am def having a lot of water retention/ swelling (4-5 kg in water weight, my physical body is def bloated) since the retrieval and I wish the medical team and doctor would have voluntarily given me a heads up and educated me on why this is happening and when it will dissipate (after the next menses). Had the same water retention problem the first egg retrieval but I forgot about it.

I am 38, egg retrieval done 2 days back - 4 good eggs but only 3 were fertilised. Still recovering with belly swollen and soft breeding. Awaiting a call from embryologists tomorrow on how many progressed to blacocyst - was told it's approx 30% for our age group 🙏🙏🙏
As a doctor who just had post egg retrieval day 5, i struggled a lot of abdominal discomfort and felt that lots of white eggs (21 g for dinner) kinda ease the unexplainable discomforr. I guess coz of the high albumin intake helps the leaky water to comes back ? And less ascites ? I dunno … i just feel lot better. Just in case anyone has the same problems. Good luck!

I just wanted to say I just had my egg retrieval done a week ago today and I was definitely in some pain for a few days and it was hard to move around and my doctors said it’s normal so please understand that you can be down for a few days and you will need to take it easy either way!!

They need to be honest with people. Mine was awful. They told me I’d be fine to go to work the next day and I was not. I had to call out and get an occurrence rather than having scheduled my pto. Smh. Tylenol did NOTHING for me.

Thank you for posting this. Has been very helpful. I got my retrieval 3 days back and feel pretty good outside of ocassional pelvic pain, bloating is subsided as well. I was wondering if I could go for swimming 5-6 days after retrieval if recovery looks good.. Being an active person, working out/swimming will help me recover faster. Curious to know your thoughts.
Good timing mine is Monday. So far 12 follicles a couple are lagging behind, so they are medicating me for a few extra days. I only have one ovary but she’s working hard!

@@jamieb1926 we ended up getting 20. And after fertilizing and observation ended up with 8. So I’m happy with it. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 and I know not all embryos make it through thawing so I’m going to guess maybe we end up with 5 after it all which I am happy about.
Same here.. I have one ovary.. got 8 eggs .. only 3 eggs were mature, 2 fertilized , but got 1 blastocyst... waiting for next month on what doc plans .. FYI.. similar thing happened in previous egg retrieval.. got only 1 blastocyst and 1 12cell embryo.. :(

I had an egg retrieval last Wednesday and this video confirmed everything I went through. It took me longer to recover because I was extremely swollen before the procedure. I ended up having 39 eggs and the process took longer and to go back to normal has been a bit difficult.
@almaruperto5506 I am like you right now had my retrieval and the took out 41 eggs and seems like recovery is long. The part that got me is I gain 4 pounds

I felt so relieved after egg retrieval. I had OHSS and it got better after 3 weeks. But I didn't feel any pain at all after only small bleeding on the day.

Hello there. Thank you for the wonderful explanation. I would like to ask check with you that I am planning for Fresh Embryo transfer. The transfer will happen 2 days after egg retrieval. Could you please advice how do I prepare myself for the egg transfer because its lesser than 48 hours the transfer will happen after the retrieval.
Great educational video. I am on day 3 after my egg retrieval and finally feel like my usual self after two days on pain and bloating. I suspect i went through OHSS the last two days atleast, because of the very high count of eggs retrieved. Am relieved today. I think my medical team did a good job, i am curious whether two days of ohss could have been avoided though.

Wow this video couldn’t have come at a better time!! Just had an egg retrieval this morning and currently recovering! And have been searching for tips and information after egg retrieval. 🙂 I definitely had pain after the procedure and had to take strong medications for it. Not sure if it’s also because my bladder was nicked. Hoping I don’t get ohss! We had 23 eggs retrieved.

@@drlorashahine can a person don't feel pain at all, during and after? I had 8 retrieved. Did not feel pain during (sedated) not pain at all after retrieval. I felt like nothing had happen😮

I know how you are feeling. It's so hard.
I just completed my 3rd retrieval yesterday. My question (which no one is talking about) is... why arent all my eggs being retrieved during retrieval and how "normal" is that. Its happened during every single retrieval i have had. They say my overies float up high and they cant get to them safely. So, apparently, I'm a difficult retrieval... but yet they dont plan to and actually have refused to do the retrieval laparscopically. So for instance, this last cycle, I had 44 total eggs but they only got 11.
Its frusterating for me as a patient because Im doing my part but all my eggs/follicles arent being retrieved so its a huge let down when I wake up and am told that every time but they refuse laparscopic surgery. Thoughts?
P.s. they also, refuse to diagnose me with OHSS but they admit theres fluid "leaking" but never give me a reason or use the term OHSS.

Transferred 1 (4AA) got pregnant but HCG was rising down at almost 5 weeks and got ruled as chemical pregnancy. Taking rest for the holidays for a bit and already arranged for another transfer in January!

How to avoid ovaries hyper stimulating ..as I am getting my ivf done ..my treatment has started..3 injections have taken...but I am scared that the process is painful or what if my ovaries stimulated more ...

If I'm planning to freeze all embryos (hoping there is some from a first cycle), is there any longer term effects to my cycle to be aware of after that post- egg retrieval period? Or should things go back to regular cycle straight way?
If you do not do an embryo transfer a few days after the egg retrieval then you will get a period about 7-10 days after the egg retrieval - then your cycle should continue 'normal' for you. Best wishes!

Yesterday my egg retrieval done. They got 8 eggs and from them only 4 fertilised. Hope atleast 2 embrio we can get. But during the O.T doctor nicked my bladder and blood clot was passing throgh urine. They gave me cathidral also for that. I am scared for that . If there is any chance for infection or any other diesease in bladder?

I’m terrified for the pain. I go in Saturday for my egg retrieval and have stage 4 endometriosis. I’m triggering with lupron and hcg. What are my chances of getting OHSS? What should I do for the pain? I have chronic pelvic pain and anything invasive down there hurts pretty badly.

I just had my eggs retrieved. I had 38 eggs retrieved and it was pretty good. I had 21 fertilized eggs and 10 eggs were good to be frozen. I'm currently waiting for pgta test results. Ivf is really a number's game. I'm positive and I hope everyone trying wins. My hope is i get to donate the embryos i don't use in the future. I was in pain days before the retrieval and after the retrieval but I got better 2 days after the retrieval

If you mean fresh vs frozen embryo - success rate depends on many factors but fresh transfers can have a lower success rate if patients have a high response

I got an embryos retrieval and I got 17 eggs and only 11 fertilized normal I will get the ones that go into Blastocysts to do PGTa testing. I wanted to know what are the percentage of the 11 that will get to that stage

I’m 34, have PCOS, and had 24 eggs retrieved along with a cyst that the surgeon was able to diffuse. I’ve been in a LOT of pain the past 48 hours and was concerned about OHSS. Saw my doc again today and he prescribed me tramadol bc the keterolac wasn’t working for my pain mgmt. Turns out tramadol works and I’m feeling a LOT better. Still extremely bloated and my tummy is tender. It’s hard for me to bend over. But now I can actually work from home.

Day 7 after egg retrieval, I'm feeling so exhausted like its a struggle to do anything, i will try the sodium, potassium, electrolytes, protein and water but ots crazy how tired i feel. Does anyone have anything similar and tips to recover?
Omg I just had mine 3 days ago and I feel super exhausted. I can't even hardly get anything done. How long did your symptoms last? Did they go away?
@4everT187 so I ended up in hospital with mine unfortunately I caught and infection we think from.the egg retrieval date, I got more and more tired and then got fevers and sick. I was rushed to A+E given antibiotics by IV and stayed in hospital for 3days, they diagnosed me with ohss there too. Bit annoyed at my clinic who everything I rang them said it's normal to feel tired. This was like next level tired tho. I found eating salty foods helped with my ohss as ot helped with the fluid displacement. Please get checked for ohss and double check you havnt got an infection xxx

I have got my eggs retrieved 2 days back and 11 eggs were retrieved ,29 years age and ever since the procedure I feel bloated and gained some weight as well and I’m all swollen around my stomach and face .

How the next cycle looks like for patients having endometriosis
I did my egg retrieval this weekend. Had 10 follicles, 10 eggs were retrieved but the doctor told me immediately I woke up from the anesthesia I was given that one of my egg did not develop so I know I have 9 left. The following day he called to inform me that 4 eggs were fertilized I was disappointed because I thought I could get all the 9 eggs fertilized. This is my first IVF and I am almost 38yrs. On the second day received another call that my fertilized eggs are doing fine but this time they are now 5 eggs I was surprised, so I asked, the doctor told me 4 yesterday, how come I now have 5 fertilized eggs today? Anyways I was so happy waiting for PGT-A do my fibroids removal and ready to transfer.

I hope your retrieval went well! Often easier to see and get eggs from ovaries once patient asleep and relaxed with sedation for procedure❤️🤞🍍

That’s the way most clinics did it years ago - very patient dependent but most people do well
When you under anesthesia you never feel anything. You will be completely in deep sleep and you don't know what happened during egg retrieval 😊 may be after you wake up you might feel mild discomfort. In my case I never felt pain at all.

Second retrieval was done this time with different medication but still got only one egg...Dr. said may be due my age factor and poor ovarian response

I had 23 follicles, only 6 eggs were retrieved as the follicles were empty. How is that possible? Sometimes, knowing less is better..

After Egg retrieval, Doctor transfered egg in 3 days. I didn't had time to recover. Now i am on 13th day after embryo transfer. I am having heavy abdominal pain and little bit bleeding.
What could be the cause?
Tomorrow going to give BHCG.
I am scared.
Update: Today tested BHCG. It's negative. I feel so bad. Don't know what to do next.

Doctor is there anything to worry As i got my period on 4th day of egg retrieval, though i am not planning for fresh embryo transfer.

I got zero eggs after my egg retrieval is that normal? I don’t know if I should try it again :(
I am so very sorry. Sometimes there are not eggs in each follicle, sometimes eggs are there but they did not respond to the trigger shot. Ask you doctor what happened for your particular case❤️

IVF is my last hope doctor. I'm in my 40s. I married later in life. It will be my first time to do IVF treatment. Hopefully, it's a miracle by God, that l will still have a chance to become a mom. Although there's disadvantages to my age. Hopefully, the IVF doctor can help me avoid the hindrances that will harm me to conceived. Although there's this gynaecologist l spoke to in the past. She told me l will never get pregnant and l am too old. She's really rude and horrible doctor.

Retrieved 24 eggs on friday. My doctor told me she froze 18 and kept the rest for potential growth? 🤔 Is that even possible? And is it OK to start exercising? My tummy is swollen and bloated but I'm not in pain anymore just uncomfortable👍and how many eggs should I retrieve for higher chances of pregnancy in the future? I am 40 and I feel this yr may be my last yr to retrieve good eggs so I want to retrieve as many as possible 🥲
I haven’t sent eggs that weren’t mature on the day of retrieval develop further later - some labs store immature eggs. Talk to your doctor about exercise but likely ok to move gently ❤️ check out ‘egg freezing calculators’ online - pretty good estimates of success in the future based on age and egg#
Had my egg retrieval 2 days ago. Super bloated & super sore. At risk for OHSS so I’m trying to drink a lot of electrolytes & protein shakes but it’s hard because I already feel so full. I’m 40 & was able to get 18 eggs
Congratulations on outcome - stay in touch with your clinic about symptoms- some bloating normal but ask to be seen if you feel bad
