Wimmer is definitely a driver you have to wonder how much better he could have done had he been in a better ride. The fall of Bill Davis Racing basically took him with it and it seems like he never recovered. He did go on to be a spotter, though. With the plethora of NASCAR content on YT, I think you've got a nice original series here. Keep up the great work and hopefully these videos get the attention they deserve.
I agree completely, he won in a bunch of different series that had stacked fields talent-wise at the time. Timing just didn’t work out for him. Thank you as well, glad you enjoy the videos.
My dad and I were big fans of Wimmer. I was pretty young in 04-05, so I never had an idea as to why Wimmer and the Bill Davis team went bad so quickly. I wish Scott had had more of a fighting chance in the Cup Series to show just how good he is.
Same here, I didn’t realize until long afterwards just how tumultuous the situation got at Bill Davis racing, especially after Ward’s victories between 2000-2002 and the spectacle of Dodge’s return to the sport, it appeared they really had it together. Wimmer was a talented driver, his Busch series success in the early 2000s was super impressive.
I'm sure if he had driven for say Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, or back then, Roush Racing, he probably would've had a much different career.
As Darell Waltrip would call him old magic shoes 👞 lol.. I believe he is one of the most talented drivers in any nascar cup level without a championship, and on top of that he is a world class dude to boot.
I think I speak for almost everyone when I say, Scott Wimmer isn’t even CLOSE to being a bust… He truly was actual raw cut talent… HE LED NINE laps in his Cup debut and he gave it a whirl all because his he couldn’t qualify for his ARCA race… Were talking like, Tim Richmond like raw talent… and he only really regressed because of Bill Davis just failing fiscally… He clearly gave it his all, JUST like Johanna Robbins… I do appreciate Scott’s loyalty though, just like when Ward Burton was on the team… And he’s obviously no bust either… unfortunately unlike Ward’s case, BDR blamed HIM for failing and getting 32nd in points, yeah brutal but clearly not Scott’s fault… him getting dropped led to a lawsuit too… Ouch. He’s probably retired now but I’d love to see him race a couple more times… At least he wasn’t fully wasted in talent, I mean he almost one two Xfinity titles! Really makes it a bit shocking he last raced for The Motorsports Group… but hey at least he still performed great with the equipment he had there too!
I hate it for Wimmer because he had a great thing going in the then Busch series before going to the cup series, which aside from this great 500 run nearly 2 decades ago, was a flat out disaster, no fault of Wimmer. Those Caterpillar cars were amazing to see, from Ward to Wimmer, Blaney, Jeff Burton, Newman, Hemric and Reddick.
@@zacharyleffler Oh, I see. Lol Yeah, I thought he went winless in Cup, and it probably doesn't fully cure the pain of being the very first winner of the Great American Race taken away, but it's nice he got some justice. Maybe on a special for April Fool's Day, you could do Danica Patrick. Lol As infamous as she was for not being a very good driver, she did have a few that came close to going her way. Most notably the 2013 Daytona 500 where she was running 3rd on the last lap, the 2014 Coca-Cola 600 where she was a top-5 car before her engine blew, and the 2017 Daytona 500 where she scored stage points in both stages, and ran up front most of the race before getting caught up in the big one. As a more serious one, though, I could see a future Matt DiBenedetto episode if he never comes back to Cup. I'm sure you've certainly looked at the 2019 Bristol Night Race for him. I really gotta say, I enjoy this series. You seem to do excellent research on the drivers you cover, you cover drivers that I think nobody ever really considered as being near-winners on NASCAR's top level, and it's nice to look back on some memories of NASCAR's glory days.
@@nascarfanatic2425 I didn’t think he had at first either, he only made limited starts up through 1961. As for Danica, I’ll have to do some digging, she was certainly talented at oval open wheel racing, but the nascar deal was definitely forced and rushed. Matt D’s 2019 Bristol race would be the one I would do for him, I’m going to wait for a while on that as he is still young and could someday make it back to Cup in some capacity albeit the chances are slim.
@@zacharyleffler yeah, that's why I figured you could probably hold off on Matty d for a while. Although definitely, his 2019 Bristol night race is definitely worth mentioning if that ever happens. And take your time on trying to research danica. No rush at all, just figured I would give you an idea for an April Fool's prank. LOL
My best guess would be lack of available rides with competitive teams and the perception that he already had his shot. The next crop of rookies was already lined up too, the 2006 class alone included Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr., David Stremme, Reed Sorenson and JJ Yeley.

Underrated content, i didn't even know before. Probably never noticed somehow

Magic Shoes is Mike McLaughlin
If you made one out of David Gilliland it would be Sonoma 2008 or Talladega 2013
Good call.
Or it could be both too I think
@@zacharyleffler Kyle Busch in the regular 2008 season was badass while Ragan came out of nowhere with Gilliland as his wingman

Need the Asa back
I loved watching ASA back in the day; the name only as a sanctioning body is being brought back for the STARS National Late Model tour next year.

CAN YOU DO KERRY EARNHARDT PLEASE!!??!?? Love you videos!! Supports from Canada 🇨🇦
ALSO START A SERIES ON LONGEST SINKESS STREAKS BEFORE FIRDT CUP WIN!!!
Thank you!
I wonder if we will see a future episode with Johnny Beauchamp.
There’s a deep cut haha. He actually managed to win two cup races after the 59 Daytona 500 result was overturned.

Wimmer was super talented he just had to drive shitboxes in cup.
Why didn't other teams step up and sign Wimmer after his release from Bill Davis Racing? It was clear that Wimmer had the talent to succeed in Cup.
